Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!

With absolutely no sympathy to Behind the Steel Curtain, thank you David Garrard. Thank you Maurice Jones-Drew. Thank you Rashean Mathis.

And, thank you to Jack Del Rio for the tremendous Jacksonville Jaguars team he put together this season. Whether or not they take out the New England Patriots next week remains to be seen, but beating the Pittsburgh Steelers twice in Heinz Field this season is overly impressive.

Cleveland Browns fans can rejoice in celebration. Not being in the playoffs still hurts, but this eases the pain.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
I'm compelled to quote Chas Dawg from the OBR, regarding how Dennis Northcutt won the game for the Jaguars:
Chas Dawg: "3rd and 6. A first down might be just enough to end this one. The Steelers are rolling after an 18 point comeback.

Standing on the sideline in Heinz field, with a chance to ice the game, Bruce Arians has the play. They are going for the jugular and Hines Ward is going to seal the deal. Just as he's about to call it in, he glances up at the stands. The Steelers fans are going nuts, the towels are waving. He looks over at the other sideline and sees Dennis Northcutt drop his helmet. The wave of panic is disorienting. What on earth is he thinking. The Steelers have the #1 defense in the league and Ben has three picks already. He can't air it out, he's playing it safe. Ben on a bootleg, punt it and stop them. He calls it in. Big Ben executes perfectly.

Now for the punt. Northcutt fields and returns it to nearly midfield. He turns and smiles at Bruce.... and the rest is history. Just like the Steelers 2007 season."

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
Tomlin's insistence on going for 2 from the 12 is strange.  It shows me that we should not get out-coached by Pittsburgh's current staff again.  Looking at the current teams in the playoffs this week, I like our team better than most.  Bring in a couple more front 7 guys and (keep DA and Jamal) I like our chances for the division.

And now Tenn's out, too! Gotta love it.

Since I'm rooting against the Colts and Pats, go San Diego Super Chargers!

Yes, nothing as futile as making the playoffs and destroying us twice.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
No, destroying twice. Josh Cribbs alone made that second game seem close. We were completely dominated. They were a better team this year and will be again next year.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
We've been over this before: Cribbs didn't make the game seem close; he made the game close -- that's why the score was so close.

They dominated us on offense and defense. We dominated them on special teams. The points we get from special teams (either directly or indirectly) do count, and big kick returns hurt us in the time of possession game.

Granted, we would have lost the TOP contest anyway, thanks to the way DA was playing. I still don't understand why we have to throw out Cribbs's accomplishments when we analyze that game.

by JulioBernazard on Jan 10, 2008 7:57 AM EST up reply actions

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
I felt we dominated them the first half to be honest. 21-6 is not close. What everyone seems to be arguing about is the second half in which Pittsburgh clearly outplayed us and Cribbs kept the game close.

The first game is meaningless to me given the QB cirumstances.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
Yes, we have been over this a lot. My basic thought is that they dominated the game and we made it seem close due only to Josh Cribbs. Yes, that is his job and yes, he did it well. But, as a team, we got outplayed in a big way. We may just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Oh lets get the hankies out!

Regardless of who they were missing it was a freakin home game, they're supposed to win at 3 sewers field?

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
This is the kind of idiocy that makes some people hate Cleveland. Just let it go, they owned us this year. Give them some regard and let's try again next year.

You're an idiot with a minimal grasp of the English language. You rarely reason, instead preferring to rant and rail for no discernible reason. You do nothing but bash and antagonize with little thought for any sort of higher dialogue or momentary pause to consider another position. So yes, I have a problem with you, mostly because you make Cleveland fans look like uneducated simpletons.

Not sure where you got the crybaby thing either.

Rarely reason?

Read my post below to Roger Dorn about Anderson's performance the last 6 games.

The only simpleton is you! A complete low IQ, insecure tool that wants to be the post police!

Be that as it may, I'll still come over here because I enjoy Chris' Blog.  I'll just pretend jaggoffs like you don't exist and avoid your equally idiotic drivel!

Rarely, of course, meaning there will be the occasional exception. Mostly, you just bait people, insult other franchises and act like the typical drunken fan. But, I really don't care, do your thing.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
They backed in to the play-offs just like Anderson's 61.7 QB rating in the last 6 games backed us out of the play-offs!

You wanna crown their ass, then have at it!

by rickyfeacher on Jan 7, 2008 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
Was that really his rating? I don't know how that is possible frankly with our receivers and O-line. I was on board the sign Anderson long-term early in the season, but the more I think about it, the more I want an accurate passer like Quinn (based off of college performance of course.)

by Roger Dorn on Jan 7, 2008 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
Actually it was 69.7 since PIT exposed Anderson's lack of the short game.

7 games
1419 YTDS
134-235 57% completion
9 TD's
10 INT's
1 lost fumble.

When you need a QB to step up for a play-off push in Nov/Dec Anderson went in the opposite direction.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
As much as I'm supposed to hate the Stillers as a born-and-raised Clevelander, I find it hard to root against them when they're playing wannabe teams from Florida. I hate Florida sports teams. At least the Stillers can play real football in real conditions.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
Did you not see the Jaguars defeat the Steelers in cold, somewhat snowy conditions back in Week 15? Granted, it wasn't a Browns/Bills or a Patriots-in-January type atmosphere, but this Florida team is an exception.

Re: Jacksonville TAKE DOWN Pittsburgh!
Agreed. Jacksonville plays hard-nosed ball led by a hard-nosed coach. I think they are one of three teams that could beat the Patriots if things fall right. In my opinion, Mathis might be the only corner left that can cover Moss.
