Drew Rosenhaus is Behind This Somehow
Who knows for sure, but this whole situation with Kellen Winslow sure as heck smells like something Drew Rosenhaus might cook up. He took the "force their hand by any means necessary" approach with TO in Philly and Chad in Cincy, and in neither case did he get the outcome he wanted. Perhaps his ego won't allow him to change and he's already angling to get Kellen out of Cleveland as well (seeing as how he doesn't get paid until Kellen gets a new contract.)
I do feel a little better after reading Kellen's quotes responding to Savage's statement. He seemed to take responsibility for the suspension, although he stuck to his guns about being in the right with what he said on Sunday night.
It's a little too early to tell which direction this is going, at least for the rest of the season. Hopefully Kellen will not play the typical games that Rosenhaus clients play and realize that he will maximize the value of his next contract by proving he is healthy, a team player, and someone that a championship team can be built around.
Hopefully the situation is not too far gone for this to happen this year; and maybe there is a even chance that fences can be mended and a reasonable deal can be struck.
Either way, I know one thing: I'd feel a hell of a lot better about it all if Drew Rosenhaus was not the one giving Kellen advice.

You could also use Manny Ramirez being traded to the Dodgers as an example of Rosenhaus cooking this sort of thing up
Rosenhaus or Boras?
Is Rosenhaus Manny Ramirez’s agent, or is it Scott Boras? I didn’t think Rosenhaus dabbled in baseball.

I firmly believe that Rosenhaus and Boras are the same man

I don’t think Winslow covered himself in glory here, but I agree that the Browns handled this whole affair in an incredibly stupid fashion.

KW2 is an undisciplined punk. In my opinion, he has proven this over and over. I’ve seen his type come and go over the years and winning teams and winning coaches don’t tolerate this behavior. Sure, the guy has raw talent, nobody would dispute this.
I’ve grown tired of his drawing attention to himself. I’ve grown tired of seeing him line up incorrectly causing penalties. I’ve grown tired of seeing him provoke other players. He’s a loser, a talented, undisciplined loser.
Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that the following people had “attitudes”, were/are considered cocky or liked to talk trash:
Jordan
Rodman
Jerry Rice
Mohammad Ali
Deion Sanders
Shaq
…
so how does being a “punk” eliminate the chances of winning? Ok, so you’re sick of K2. Doesn’t mean he can’t win or help a team win.
It’s convenient of you to ignore the “undisciplined” facet. I love players with attitude. Ali is my favorite athlete of all time, though he participated in a non team sport. And this list of players were guys who had already proven themselves to be game changers at the highest level. You can walk with swagger when you back it up.
How has he not backed it up? This is typical of an older generation of fan (not saying you are od) not liking the way a younger player carries himself. Please name me a time this year he (K2) has lined up incorrectly. Edwards has been guilty of that this year, is it ok because he doesn’t run his mouth much? What is wrong with with Kellen provoking other players? It’s a football game, not an afternoon tea social. He talks a lot and he never fails to back it.
Winslow is tremendously talented and, by all written accounts, remarkably disciplined in the way he approaches the game. You apparently have some issue with the fact that he chose to disclose what was wrong with him and discuss things that the team didn’t want him to discuss. That’s life, he’s a grown man with a very serious infection. It would have been better for everyone if the team had just announced it was staph and spared K2 the embarassment of the other stories that were circulating.
The Plain Dealer today said that he was actually suspended for “profane verbal abuse of a Club’s public relations member in the locker room.” In reality, Winslow never raised his voice and used only one profanity. The Browns made a huge mess of a situation that never should have been more than a simple hospitalization. The organization is to blame here, not Winslow.
Winslow is the very best player at his position in the NFL at his position. To get rid of him because he is outspoken would be incomprehensibly stupid. Winning teams win because of talent, not because they are such nice guys.
I agree with a lot of this.
Kellen plays through pain every practice and every game he participates in. He clearly does not have problems with his weight, he looks to be in very, very good shape every time I see him in photos/video.
He knows the playbook, he plays hard, he has pretty incredible hands…what part of that is undisciplined?
PLUS, my point was that your (elsandito’s) statement that “I’ve seen his type come and go over the years and winning teams and winning coaches don’t tolerate this behavior” was not necessarily true. I didn’t say anything about this specific case (Winslow). I was saying that you were incorrect because plenty of people who had won in the past (both on teams and not on teams) were cocky and thought of as “punks”. Also, his talent is not “raw” in any way. He catches a lot of balls and got to the pro bowl. If that isn’t “refined” skill, I don’t know what is. How can you be so “undisciplined” as to not be able to be productive and yet still meet the highest benchmark in the sport for productivity? You can’t.
Lastly, you are kidding me if you don’t think Ali had a team of people he had to work with. Yes, he competed “alone”, but I guarantee you there was someone I would call a coach squirting water in his mouth between rounds.
