To all those who want Quinn...

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut. Even a garbage can gets a steak. Even a broken clock is right at least two times a day. Get 'em all out of your system. When speaking of Derek Anderson, many Browns fans tend to put too much blame on him when we lose, and tend to give credit elsewhere when we win.

Well, i am here to say that even tho i think that DA should be the starter, i am taking the side of "fivekmd"  and will discontinue the argument over who should start at quarterback for the cleveland browns. As much as i enjoy going back and forth with you fivekmd, i feel that it is pointless UNTIL we see quinn play. Once Brady Quinn has a few meaningful games under his NFL belt, we can continue the discussion.

And the point of this is? Jeez we all know what Anderson can do, one good game, one bad, one good, two bad, so on and so on. He is average on a average team. This one win against Jacksonville doesn’t change my opinion of Anderson or this team.
This team will not win a playoff game with Anderson at QB and Romeo as head coach, and that is my opinion.

Anderson didn’t play great against Jacksonville. He didn’t F it up and he made one extremely nice pass to Edwards on the deep ball down the sideline. I disagree with G rock in that I think the team is very strong when our quarterback can manage the game

DA’s rating in our 4 losses: 74, 44.5, 22.9, 57.9.

It’s not a stretch to say that if we had the most game-managery game manager in football, we’d have two more victories this year (5-2). And yes, I understand we went against a couple great defenses.

The problem w/ Anderson is he is feast or famine. Too many below 60 games sprinkled w/ the occasional 100+ games. In one of the few times I agreed w/ Tony Grossi, he made the point this week that it’s the NFL, everyone has the talent to be here and succeed on a given day. What separates winners from losers is doing it consistently.

Yeah, Ravens game. 14-37. Unbelievably bad performance, and a loss he was 100% responsible for.

TIM COUCH!!

Come on, he was taken ahead of McNabb! You need to bring him back.

He had a good first half. Props on the first half. Now the second half, however…

The Pro-Quinn following pretty much all acknowledge that DA is capable of playing very well. It’s his abhorrent inconsistency that’s got our ire.

DA is Schizo and he’s making all (many) of us ill with his Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde routine. But I think you are right. Until we see Quinn under live fire with his game to win or lose, we won’r know jack…..

I have a strong feeling there is zero chance BQ will see meaningful action unless our Browns are mathematically eliminated. May as well get on the DA bandwagon no matter how schizo he looks.

I have problems here, not with the lack of arguing over who the QB should be (and thereby starting arguments over who the QB should be), not with the prospect of giving Quinn meaningful PT, but at the suggestion that DA shouldn’t take the blame for a loss or the credit for the win. There are two reasons why the QB is the guy to do both (barring spectacular defensive/ST TDs, Barry Sandersesque running plays, coaching meltdowns, or other irregular phenomena).

First, of any player on the field, the Quarterback has the biggest and most direct impact on winning or losing a game. He touches the ball every single play (Wildcat formation and direct snaps not withstanding). He calls the plays, he calls the audibles, he operates the offense. He can make his receivers and tight ends better or worse depending on how he plays, he can soften up a defense for his RB, he can even make his line look better by getting rid of the ball quickly.

Second, the quarterback is the symbolic leader of the team. The team huddles around him. He is the only player whose backup can’t play a single snap. He is looked to as a leader (vocal or not), he is the face of the franchise. Its just part of the job description.

As a QB, you take the blame for losses, especially when your poor play directly influences the outcome of the game more than anyone else’s.

I’ll take a 4 year starter at ND over a guy that transferred to Delaware so that he could get some snaps

Sorry I’m late. thanks for the shout out thirty3.

by the way, no comment on the QB situation.

My thought is that the longer he sits, the better he will be in the future. So often in the NFL rookie QBs are asked to turn a team around because they were such a force in college. It is a luxary to sit a few years and really learn the systems and the NFL game. I for one am willing to wait, heck I’ve been waiting all my life for Brown’s sucess.

Yeah, I think there may be something to this sentiment. The additional preparation certainly seems to have helped both Aaron Rodgers and Phillip Rivers.

by macasson on Oct 30, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It helped Carson Palmer, too.

But then again, Peyton Manning played (horribly) his first year, and he turned out alright.

I think sitting behind DA might be a little different than sitting behind Favre or Brees, though.

Its not DA, it’s your head coach and o-coach. They have no feel for the game.
