Ok, I've called for Quinn to come in, but now he has to get into politics....

http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/08/brady-quinn-endorses-mccain/

TRONGSVILLE, OH — Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn and Left Tackle Joe Thomas endorsed the GOP nominee during a McCain-Palin joint rally outside Cleveland Wednesday.

Palin introduced the surprise endorsers at the end her speech today to cheers from the more than 2,000 supporters in the crowd.

Quinn introduced McCain and spoke briefly about how his service to the nation and time as a POW inspired him because he kept “fighting for freedom.”

“Too often times we label people heroes and get caught up in the moment but tonight we have a real hero amongst us,” Quinn said. “This is a man who endured great adversity yet remained loyal to his nation, a man who would not forsake his country…we need heroes like this to inspire us and to remind us that we are the greatest nation.”

He added that, “to me, Senator McCain embodies the American spirit which is a lifetime of patriotism and service to this country, first in the military and then in the Senate.”

Fair enough, but while you're sitting on the bench collecting millions, don't lecture me on your politics. I don't want to hear your political opinion. Spend more time increasing your arm strength and STFU about politics.

I don’t really care who comes out for whatever candidate. They have the same vote that you and I do. Its their right to state who they’re endorsing.

Agreed. I think we know who your voting for. :P.

Athletes and entertainers endorse politicians all the time. There is nothing wrong with them doing, but a person shouldn’t base their vote on who endorses a candidate (and I’m sure most people don’t). I don’t see what the problem is with Quinn or Thomas showing up at a rally for a candidate. They are allowed to voice their opinion just like anyone else.

I wouldn’t be so sure people don’t vote based on who endorses who. I don’t have much faith in voters, though.

There is nothing wrong with Quinn endorsing someone. I’m a huge sports fan, but I also feel very strongly about my politics and do as much convincing and educating as I can. The first time my two big interests collided was when I learned that Bernie Kosar, my childhood hero, was raising money and endorsing George W. Bush. I realized then, that I could still be a huge Bernie fan, even if he was, um, misguided, in my opinion, about politics.

What do you find questionable about his judgement?

I’ll take a pledge and promise not to discuss politics on this blog from now on. I really like the LGT rule on politics and think we should try and uphold it here.

I don’t mean to imply that anything in this thread has been offensive, just that it would be a shame to see the burgeoning community here fractured by an argument.

I don’t know what LGT says about politics, but leaving that subject on another blog seems like a phenomenal idea to me.

Absolutely. Better for all involved.

BQ stated that he considered McCain a hero and was inspired by his patriotism. It doesn’t preclude BQ from saying nice things about Obama as well.

I don’t particularly like when celebrities discuss politics, but I also don’t particularly care.

by gahnki on Oct 9, 2008 4:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Definitely agree, I don’t really like celebs getting overly involved in politics, but it was just an endorsement. It’s not like Quinn & Thomas are out there acting like Streisand….lol

Look, I have no problem with this and if McCain asked me to introduce him, wat am I suppose to say “I support you, but not enough to show it publicly?” No, imo Quinn and Thomas have all the right to endorse whoever they want.

and yes I am for McCain.

if he leads us to a super bowl victory some day, he can endorse Ron Paul for all I care.

Good for Brady and Joe. Who cares, that is there belief/opinion, so be it. If DA comes out and supports Obama, that is his call.

I find it hilarious. Personally, I base all of my life choices on that of professional athletes. Sure, this plan has hit some snags, like that time I looked to Maurice Clarett for career advice, or Pacman Jones for anger management, or Michael Vick for veterinary advice. Still, it beats formulating my own opinions. Thank you Brady Quinn, now I can confidently cast my ballot!
