Is there hope after such a crushing loss?
There is no question that today's loss was the worst of the five the Browns have suffered this year. Just like in the first Ravens loss, I feel like I got run over by a truck.
I just don't understand how in the hell we went from 27-13 up to losing 37-27. I just sat there in disbelief watching the events unfold. You simply cannot give the Ravens D any momentum, because they just feast on it. And when you have a chance to make plays (BRAYLON!!!) you have to make them.
The frustrating thing is, 27 points should be enough to beat the Ravens. The offense did not play well by any means, and the coaches did a terrible job of making adjustments, but thanks to Joshua Cribbs we were able to get 27 points on the board.
The defense really failed us today. We made Joe Flacco-Ray Rice-Derrick Mason look like Troy-Emmit-Irvin today. And that should not happen. BMac and Eric Wright have been really solid all year, but they both got burned badly today.
All in all, there is nothing that can really be said except that was an absolutely crushing loss the Browns suffered today. And I've been as optimistic as anyone, but it is really to see how we can recover from today's loss and still go 6-2 to give ourselves a fighting chance at the playoffs.
I will say one thing though -- Derek Anderson made a very poor decision on the pass that Suggs picked off, but today's loss was definitely not his fault. Braylon's drops, the defensive failures, and the coaches' inability to be creative in establishing some semblance of a running game all contributed to this loss more than Derek. He is awfully inconsistent, and not good enough to win games on his own. But I hope that the boos at the end of the game were for everyone, not just DA.

We will never, ever have a champion in Cleveland.
It’s just never gonna happen.
I’m done expending emotional energy on the Browns. I’ve given up on the Indians and Cavs a long time ago. I still watch and support them win or lose, but a few years ago I decided I just refuse to be a diehard and suffer every year.
This year I think I’ve finally made that leap with the Browns and Ohio State. Especially the Browns. They will never ever do much more than maybe make the playoffs and lose in the first round. Hell, right now we can’t even do that!
That first comment is such a stupid one to make. Have you been watching sports the past few years? The Indians came within one victory of winning the World Series just last year (yes, they would have beat Colorado in the WS). They are in a great position to compete again next year if they make a couple of moves. The Cavs were in the NBA finals two years ago, and many are predicting them to make it there again. Don’t have such a negative attitude.

One game, and probably one shitty quarter away from beating the eventual NBA champs? The Cavs at least have a legitimate shot as long as 23 is on the roster.
“Never” is a strong word.
And for those of us who can’t stand basketball?

Then you don’t get to appreciate a champion in Cleveland, but you still get to have one.

Yes I have which is why I made the comment.
The NBA and Nike will insure we won’t keep Lebron or get anything for him and the Indians probably won’t spend any money in the offseason but those are issues for other boards.
I’d just like to see the Browns have a few years of playoff football in a row. Three or four 10 + win seasons in a row and a few playoff wins and i’d be happy. I don’t even need a title. I just want us to rise above the Detroits and Cincinnatis of the world. Will it ever happen?
I would love to watch the Browns be a perennial playoff team for a few years. I understand the sentiment there.
I just think the Cavs have been pretty close to a ring recently, thus making your statement
"We will never, ever have a champion in Cleveland.
It’s just never gonna happen."
appear a little…reactionary? Hyperbolical?
And from what I know about Baseball (which admittedly is very, very little) I thought you could spend very little money and still be a competitive team. Wrong?
Just because it’s been 44 years, doesn’t mean it will never happen. It just feels that way.
As for a wish for a few playoff years in a row, been there, done that. It was called the late 80’s Browns and the late 90’s Indians, and it was somewhere between generally unsatisfying (1989 Browns) and gut wrenching (1986 and 1987 Browns/1997 Indians).
While having a playoff caliber team would be pleasant, I would be satisfied with nothing less than a dynasty.

I disagree about DA
A loss is never just one persons fault. But I would say that Anderson shoulders a large part of the blame for this loss. He is terribly inconsistent. He is the starter (a pro-bowler last year) and he looked pathetic. Flacco looked so much better than Anderson. Quarterbacks need to make plays. He didn’t. He has got to go.
That’s not true. The loss @ Cincy last year was entirely DA’s fault.

I wholeheartedly agree. He was in position to make a comeback, but he made an inexcusable, terrible play. It was 3rd down wasn’t it? It was definitely 4 down territory. Toss the ball up for grabs, give your team a chance, don’t just throw it to the other team.
I am not trying to place the blame SOLELY on his shoulders, but he deserves a share. Yes, if Edwards catches the deep ball we are probably not even in that position. Which event came first is irrelevant, both had a chance to help their team and neither did.
There’s plenty of blame to go around for the team’s total implosion. DA deserves a share. A small share, but a share nonetheless.

as does Braylon (drop) and the defense. Less we forget right after we went up 27-13, Joe Flacco converted a 3rd and 16 from his own 15 to start the drive that made it 27-20. I know one play isn’t the ballgame, but the defense didn’t show either.
BTW, a play on which the Browns coaching staff elected to rush 3, and drop 8 into coverage. The result was Flacco having plenty of time to find his receiver. Shouldn’t have been a surprise, since the DBs had a miserable day in coverage. This soft approach defines “playing not to lose” rather than playing to win. It appears the coaches trust neither their players nor their own ability to call a defensive set which pressures the quarterback, even given a golden opportunity to do so and thereby force a punt deep in Baltimore territory, or perhaps even result in a turnover. Almost any (I exempt DA) NFL quarterback will beat you if given time to throw, and a minimal expectation that the receiver will catch the ball (obvious exception of BE).
The game really turned on Edwards’ drop. He is a real head case at the moment, and I don’t think he can be trusted to make any given catch. Seems particularly bad on big play opportunities; it’s clear the pressure has gotten to him. Unfortunately, the Browns have absolutely nobody to replace him. He appears to really need to sit for a while and re-develop his confidence in practice.
One other point: have you ever seen anybody get in his face on these drops – coaches or teammates? The PD reported that as he came back to the huddle he said something like “It doesn’t matter, we’ll get the next one.” Probably just saving face, but how about something like “geez, I screwed that badly. Give me another chance and I’ll make it up” ?
Edwards couldn’t catch a staph infection right now, which is unfortunate on so many levels.

As a WR you are taught to always have confidence; to always look to make the next play because you can’t do anything about the one you just made or failed to make. The “short memory” cliche also applies here.
I believe his drops are in his head as well. He needs an offseason, a bye week, some sort of mental break, something.
Admittedly, I don’t get to catch as many of the games on TV as I’d like (curse living in Kansas and having to watch… the Chiefs ::shudder::), but one reason I have hope* is Corey Williams. I know he’s been really quiet, but he was pretty good in Green Bay (or at least better than he is now).
*Hope that the Browns will improve; I’m enough of a Cleveland fan to not hold out a lot of hope for the playoffs.

If this guy thinks Tebow will be the top QB picked in next year’s draft then he’s insane. Stafford is probably the best pro prospect, although if Graham Harrell continues to play well against the good teams then he will move up the board.
We won’t be picking a QB in the first round anyways. We have many many more needs.
