Ugh - Brady Quinn Visits Dr. James Andrews

The hits just keep on coming for the Browns.

Just caught a few stories online that Brady Quinn flew down to Birmingham to visit the grim reaper of fantasy football, Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his injured index finger.

Brady Quinn Visits Dr. Andrews

Star-divide

Interestingly, in seems as if Quinn did this on his own and not in concert with the wishes of the Browns.  Not sure if there is more to that than meets the eye, or if people are making too big a deal of it.

The key is that the finger injury may have impacted Brady more on Sunday than he wanted to let on, and hopefully it won't force him to miss anymore action.

I hate it when players have to visit James Andrews.  It is rarely a good thing.  The man is obviously a surgery wiz, but it's frightening to see players' names linked to a trip to Birmingham.

Hopefully Brady is okay.  Not sure we have much of a prayer on Sunday, but we need Brady getting experience to end this horrid season.

i see a ronnie lott-style “cut if off, doc” ending to this story…and then a 4-fingered brady throwing 7 td’s in a steam rolling of the colts.

I took it straight from the PD’s website. I don’t imagine they photoshop much if anything.

No, photoshopping would require effort.

In Will Carroll’s Black and Blue Report today, he has this BQ blurb (my bold):

Brady Quinn was pulled due to ineffectiveness, though the team insists that he’ll be back in the starting role next week and that the broken index finger wasn’t the problem. Again, we have semantics leading the way with the Browns. As Peter King reported over the weekend, Quinn also has a tendon issue that’s preventing him from spinning the ball, and given the way his passes looked, this does look to be the issue. Worse, it’s not going to go away in a matter of days, making it unlikely Quinn will be substantially different than he was on Sunday. He’s headed to Birmingham to check with Dr. James Andrews, so we should know more soon.

Is it just me, or is this something the coaching staff should know? I want to see what Quinn has to offer just as much as everybody, but if he can’t do it throwing the ball propertly, is there any point?

As for the concern question, I’m not. It’s obviously not an issue that has kept him out of games. I wouldn’t call it “cosmetic”, but it seems it’s something he can play through. I’d hope that a procedure to fix this, if necessary, could be done during the offseason and require no time away from camps.

I am not sure if I think he should play if this really is something that is going to affect his performance.

Yeah, its only a finger, but its THE most important finger for getting spin on the ball. We play in Cleveland, and the weather can’t be expected to look good for any game left home or away. Spin is crucial for wind-cutting.

If he can play through it and it doesn’t affect his release, I am all for him playing. If it is going to cause him to start throwing INTs, if it is going to plant a seed of doubt in his mind, or if it might lead to more QB switching, I would rather have him sit. I don’t know if you could “ruin” him (or any QB), but I wouldn’t like to risk it. He seems like a confident kid and a professional who will do what is best for his long-term future.

Anyone think Braylon should get his eyes checked out? A lot of people seem to think there might be something wrong with his eyesight. Anyone know an optometrist who could tell him something is wrong with his eyes even if there isn’t, “fix” the problem, and possibly restore some of his confidence?

Does all this make James Andrews a spin doctor?
