Michael Vick to...*gasp*...Browns???
Had to sign up and get some feedback from everyone about this.
Read a quick blog post in the PD by Branson Wright a few weeks back discussing the possibility of whether the Browns should take an interest in Michael Vick. Take a look for yourself here: http://blog.cleveland.com/bransonwright/2008/11/should_the_cleveland_browns_co.htm
Okay, I thought. Just a harmless hypothesis with no meat or legitimacy behind it. But now another website has written about the Vick to the Browns possibility, and it is starting to worry me:
http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/2008/11/could-michael-vick-join-the-browns-in-2009/
(Let me just say, I am 100%, wholeheartedly against this idea. However, I have to admit, the post at Midwest Sports Fans is pretty damn funny. I tried not to laugh at the Michael Vick Don't Dog It Award...but it was pretty difficult to resist.)
Again, I'm not sure there is any meat behind any of these posts. It seems to be more speculation than anything else. But with Randy Lerner seeming pretty desperate right now, and the likelihood of new a new coach and new management, how can we be sure that the Browns won't take a look at Michael Vick?
I think it would be a terrible idea. First, the guy is not a good quarterback, and although Kellen Winslow would probably be happy, Braylon Edwards would probably try to catch the first train out of town. And in a 2008 season that he simply been filled to the brim with drama, adding Vick and all of the controversy he would bring would not be a smart move.
We have Brady Quinn for a reason, and gave up a lot to get him. We need to go into next season with Brady Quinn firmly entrenched as the #1 QB and see what he can do with a full training camp as the #1, and 16 games to prove himself. If he sucks, we move on. If he progresses as we would all expect, then we have ourselves a QB to build around. It looks like next year could be a "rebuilding year" with new coaches, so we might as well build around a QB with the talent and skills to hold the position long-term -- not a glorified RB who isn't even a competent passer.

Fun article there.
I would never want Michael Vick in a Cleveland Browns uniform. I could not root for the guy for what he did. I wouldn’t throw a big fuss if he was on some other team, but just don’t let it be the Browns.
This point sums it up most: one of the No. 1 goals for Cleveland, whether Crennel stays here or a new coach comes in, is to have “the guy” at quarterback situation. We already have Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn to choose from next season, and odds are that Quinn will be “the guy”. If you keep or get rid of Anderson, bringing in Michael Vick would only add to the quarterback controversy. And, there are so many teams in this league in need of a quarterback that there is no way he would come back as a wide receiver.
I forgot which analyst said it a few weeks ago, but I agreed — I see Jerry Jones making an effort to get Vick. We saw how inept the Cowboys were with Brad Johnson at quarterback. With Vick, Jones could talk to him and tell him he will get him back into the groove of football again for one year as a backup. He’ll be on a winning team, with a chance to play if Romo goes down, and then next year he’ll be dealt/signed by a team that needs him. On top of that, if he accepts that role, the Cowboys could also, for one year, add another dimension to their offense by doing the same thing with Vick that the Ravens have been doing with Troy Smith.

Oh no!! Braylon would catch the first train out of Cleveland? Mr. “I’m wide open, bounce the ball off of me!”? We can’t let that happen unless we draft another guy who kills drives.
I heard he wants to go to New York.
That way he’d get a chance to drop the ball on New Year’s.

I thought Edwards was going to do that…

Brady Quinn is the guy. It would make a lot more sense for a team that has ZERO QB options to take a look at Vick than it would for us to do so.
The only way anyone within the Browns organization acquires Vick is if they plan on moving him to RB or WR. Vick was a worse QB at the height of his career than Brady is right now (with a healthy finger).
i agree completely. I see no reason for the Browns to go after Vick — many NFL teams are more desperate at QB than the Browns and might go after him. We have many more needs. The only interest I could see the Browns having in Vick is as a WR/RB/special teams player, and we already have that in Josh Cribbs.

Vick to Raiders and the need for a Veteran QB
I cannot imagine Vick playing for the Cowboys. I’m sure it will likely hapen though if you all are already saying there’s been speculation. I have a feeling (only a feeling, no proof), that Vick could end up with the silver and black. The Raiders have made it a case to pick up players who have not been the most respactable or law abiding. I can just see Death himself (Al Davis) sitting there grinning as Vick stands behind him as Al says he’s now a Raider. I know the Riaders owe Jamarcus Russell alot of money, but seeing how the Raiders just burn through money each season, it would not suprise me that Vick would go there anyways. All I know is Vick playing for the Orange and Brown, a team that has a dog for a mascot, has got mistake written all over it.
I really hope we keep Quinn. Anderson showed this past sunday against the Colts he’s not the starter anymore, and Dorsey REALLY showed he can’t be the second string. Quinn will be healthy next season, and he hasn’t even been given a fair slot of time to see what he can do. In my opinion, what the Browns need to get a is an old veteran quarterback, who’s played in the trenches and can be a good back-up (and does not mind being the back-up cough-Jeff Garcia). Not Brad Johnson since he showed time has caught up with him, but perhaps a Todd Collins from Wasington (He had a great run last 2007 season to lead the Skins to the playoffs), or dare I say a Mark Brunell (if Brunell were to come to Cleveland, chances are he might retire). The Browns need someone like a Doug Flutie (Flutie reitired, I know) to play back-up if Quinn were to go down.
The only way I can see Vick joining the Browns is as part of the biggest PR move known to mankind. The Browns have a quarterback (that still feels weird to say) and could draft or sign another one with significantly less money and PETA rallies. In spite of the prison time, I doubt Vick’s ego, which wouldn’t allow him to play any position but quarterback, has been affected. In all his time in Atlanta, it happened for one play when he lined up behind Matt Schaub.
