Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Can we audible?

I don't want to start the DA vs BQ debate up, but I do have a question that I hope someone can offer some intelligent insight into.  Does DA audible?  Is he capable?  Is he allowed?

I don't ever think I've seen him switch a play at the line of scrimage, and I wonder if this contributes to his inconsistency.  IMO there seems to be many situations where the called play has very little chance of success given the defense's formation yet we run it anyway.  I know there is a lot of variables that go into each play's success/failure, but I honestly don't know if we have ever changed a play at the line of scrimage in the Chud era, so I ask why?

Our QB can’t even complete a pass half the time. I wouldn’t trust him to read a defense pre snap and make a intelligent decision either.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen D.A. change the play at the line before, although I’ve never really paid attention as to how often he does it. IMO, if you can’t handle at least being able to get out of a play that’s a sure disaster you can’t quarterback in the NFL.

Hell, the QB of my high school team was allowed a few basic audibles and our coach was about as conservative as they come.

I do remember hearing Steve Spurrier never allowed his QBs to call any audible at the line. He basically killed Patrick Ramsey by never allowing him to change the protection. Heard the same thing about Mike Martz too so if the Browns limit or disallow D.A. to audible their is a precident to that policy.

Stupid, but it’s been done before.

Bing allowed to audible, and knowing what play to audible to, are separate issues. Kosar, despite his physical limitations, knew what he was looking at and how he could attack it. DA wouldn’t know how to attack the opponent if they had left the field for a timeout. I think he’s about as dense as Frye.

This is the Peyton Manning effect.

With the limited viewing angles it is impossible to tell whether Anderson is changing plays, making protection calls, or signalling hot routes. We cannot hear what he is saying and not every movement is visible to us.

Not every quarterback puts on a play like Peyton Manning does.

I sure hope so. I have raised this question before. If Joe Flacco can come in as a rookie and not only audible, but also run a no-huddle for the majority of a game, our QB should be allowed to at least change a run from left to right.

A Peyton show would be a great thing to see IMO. I was watching “the catch II” where Steve Young threw to TO to beat Green Bay, and he was talking about how they even had fake audibles. We could use any of that that would help our offense right now.
