The Cleveland Browns' chances for the playoffs are gone, but their opportunity for vengeance remains. Last year, the Indianapolis Colts failed to give an effort in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans, thereby eliminating the Browns from playoff contention. Whether that means something to you or not, it plays a factor in the emotion of today's game. Maybe not for the players, but for some fans, it does.
Derek Anderson will get the start for the Cleveland Browns after Brady Quinn's season-ending injury last week. The fans at the stadium could boo with every misthrow, but I hope they don't unless it truly is a horrible effort by Anderson. We still need to try to provide a home-field advantage -- it happened against the Giants, so why not against the Colts?
FINAL PREDICTION: Indianapolis Colts 27, Cleveland Browns 20.
Without Bob Sanders, almost anybody can score against the Colts' defense. However, the Colts' offense is back in sync, and with that, Peyton Manning is brilliant at chewing up clock time. By keeping our offense off the field enough, the Colts will come away with the victory.
This is the official gameday topic for the Cleveland Browns in Week 13 as they take on the Indianapolis Colts. All comments regarding the game should be posted in this topic. Enjoy the game, and GO BROWNS!!!

Yep…good to see we’re including Jason Wright in the offense more o_O

I bought a new HDTV this week. The Browns have never looked better to me. How did I ever live without it?
From this play-calling, I think its safe that Chud/Romeo don’t exactly have a lot of confidence in DA anymore?
I wouldn’t think that at all. This is the same offensive approach that every single team takes towards the Colts early on when they are minus Bob Sanders.

I still meet people who say they don’t think watching sports in HD is a big deal.
Those people have never watched sports in HD, obviously.
You know Selig? Ombudsman.
What?? Are those people blind?

I was one of them, until I bought an HDTV. The difference is absolutely stunning.

I like the running, but you have to mix in a pass before third and long.
Also, why throw a 3 yard pass on third and 8? It seemed to me that was DA’s first option because he looked right to him after the snap, so it’s not like everyone else was covered and that was his only option. If that’s his first read then we have a problem.

I like the timing of that blitz there…nice throw by Manning.

Beautiful pass by Peyton Manning, great breakup by McDonald. Tie game.

Sweet play by McDonald - good to see him contributing

Lewis is running well so far today. Let’s keep it up!

We need to mix in some playaction passing though.

Gotta say, offense is running very smoothly so far.

Definitely can be attributed to DA. ;)

I love football in November/December. Snow, cold. Love it.
This is shitty weather. It’s a rain/snow/miserable mix. And with the way the team is playing, I’m not surprised if some people didn’t want to come out.

Dammit, our defender on Dallas Clark ran into the referee.

Is there some fucking reason we're not capable of getting a man on Dallas Clark?

If the Colts only get three here, this will feel very similar to the last time these two teams met. That was in Browns stadium on opening day a few years ago — the year Kelly Holcomb was named the starter by Butch over Tim Couch. We lost 9-6 on a last-second field goal.

Justttttttttt barely a stop on third down there. I think the Colts will take the points here, believing that they can beat us in the second half.

My initial reaction was that he got the tip of the ball in. Great stop by the D.

Thanks to all of those booth reviews in the final two minutes, the first half is lasting as long as usual.
Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
Heh…this would be funny if we saw a free kick attempt for the second straight week in the NFL.
Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
so if they believe the colts may call a fair catch and attempt a free kick, wouldn’t it make sense to try and angle this towards the sideline?
You know Selig? Ombudsman.
With Brackett and one of the Colts’ starting DTs out of the game, we should keep feeding the RBs the ball. Harrison could use a screen or two, or even just a swing pass to get him out in space.
Play-action deep to Braylon needs to happen sometime, too. He has 0 drops so far (never mind that he only has one or maybe two catches).
DA’s inability to make confident, quick decisions is a little frustrating. I have only seen him progress from one receiver to another once or twice. When he does get through his progression he only seems to be able to look one guy off—unable to get to a third or fourth option.
Fear the golden arches, Peyton

it’s awesome that in a lost season for the reality Browns, they have to screw over my Peyton-led fantasy team today.
You know Selig? Ombudsman.
Its been a pattern with him all year. This offense was set up with JJ in that role and JJ is an exceptional blocker. Since he’s gone out though, they haven’t modified it at all. Its poor coaching. There has to be an excellent blocking WR that was available at some point. Its not like Steptoe, Sanders, etc. have really been contributing anyhow.

I know it’s not like we’ve been scoring touchdowns all game, but like rufio said, this one’s no where close to being over. Though, the nail in the coffin usually comes if you give the Colts the ball with a lead.

Very bummed that Lewis is not able to turn it up in the second half with the touches he’s been asking for.

I’m not really surprised, though. Jamal has had a few good first halves this year, if memory serves. Yet, he still hasn’t topped 100 yards. He’s best suited for the Jerome Bettis role when the Steelers got Willie Parker. He can play really well in that role. He just isn’t an every down back anymore though. I’d really like to see Harrison take the Parker role on this team for the rest of the season.

Jason Wright was in on that play. He waited a second and a half to block and then released. No reason that shouldn’t be Harrison instead.
Yep, I don’t understand the obsession with playing Wright so much today instead of Harrison.
Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
by Chris Pokorny on Nov 30, 2008 3:30 PM EST up reply actions
It’s the threat of Wright blocking, not his actual in-game blocking that the coaches like.
Then again, if they didn’t complain about how bad Harrison is at blocking and instead told the media he was awesome at it, they wouldn’t undermine the threat of Harrison blocking.
I know that, but even this is highly conservative thinking. There is no way the difference b/w their blocking equals the difference in their playmaking.
Gentleman... I think we are boned.
Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.
Horrible throw by Anderson there. We’ll be lucky to get the ball back now.
Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
When DA has to adjust to throw from a high release point, over a big clump of man right in front of him, to a checkdown receiver, he throws the ball right in to the ground.
Not only does this lead to guys NOT being able to get YAC, but they take big hits like Heiden did on that drive, and some throws don’t even get to the target like the one to Lewis.
A guy is WIDE OPEN don’t throw a rocket at his knees.
So much for increasing his trade value.

Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
this year, the browns have held the steelers to 10 points, the colts to 10 (currently), the redskins to 14, and the texans to 16… 3 of them at home, all 4 of them losses (as it stands right now).

Yeah, I’m from Ohio. My mom is a huge Michigan fan. My dad is a huge Ohio State fan. I didn’t really care for either team. For some reason, Miami appealed to me.
by Fundamentals on Nov 30, 2008 3:47 PM EST up reply actions
Hopefully. They honestly exceeded my expectations for this season (although yesterday’s game hurt). Randy Shannon has had great recruiting classes and those kids have gotten a lot of playing time to get prepared. Marve and Harris each got some nice PT this year, although I’d really like to see them name a QB and stick with him. I think next year, with the recruiting class coming in, they should be a top 10-15 team and the year after should be a run at a title again.

Neither the ACC nor Big East should get a BCS invite this year. Or make them play Utah and Boise State for the right to get in.

I can’t even get mad anymore. Apathy has officially set in
Heads do need to roll on the coaching staff though.
That set in for me a few weeks ago.
I agree that a new coaching staff is needed for next year, but what would firing Romeo really do right now? Is there anybody on the staff that you honestly see as a potential head coach and want to take a look at? I don’t see anybody. If there isn’t anybody truly better there, what purpose does it serve?
by Fundamentals on Nov 30, 2008 3:51 PM EST up reply actions
Probably kind of picky, but a play I’ll remember on offense (besides Anderson’s misthrows) came on Cribbs’ attempted run from shotgun. He had a huge seam, but Steptoe completely whiffed on his block. If we convert that, who knows…
Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
Indeed…he had a nice camp and preseason, but there is no way you can convince me that it was a better decision to keep him over Travis Wilson.

by Chris Pokorny on Nov 30, 2008 3:52 PM EST up reply actions
Honestly, not an NFL player. The worst 5th string CB on any team is a better football player than him. How he gets any snaps at all is an indictment of this staff.
Little WRs and RBs who can kind of block sometimes (which it all it would have taken on that play) are all over the NFL. We need a few of those guys in the draft.
I agree entirely. Those guys are available in the 5th and 6th round. They become 4th WRs and ST players. More often than not, its worth it to pass over somebody with more talent to get those guys. Guys with 5th round talent don’t often amount anyhow, so why not take someone who can excel at one aspect of football instead?
by Fundamentals on Nov 30, 2008 3:55 PM EST up reply actions
I’m guessing he just meant “good effort”, probably by our defense of course. I’m sure most people around the league thought we would’ve been killed by the Colts offense.

What I meant was
that it was that it was a good effort by your D to completely shutdown the Colt’s offense and force 3 turnover’s. I did watch the game and yes it was an ugly win and I think we we’re lucky to get it. It would have been interesting had Quinn played (who I am a big fan of). Do you guys think he would have much of difference?
