Why Wait?

As Romeo Crennel is obviously one of the worst head coaches in recent NFL history, why even allow him to coach the Pittspuke game?  I think a message should be sent to everyone that this ineffectiveness will not be tolerated.  Make it clear to everyone on the roster that the last game, against our most hated rival, is an audition for whatever coach takes this train wreck over.  Play hard and lay it on the line and you have a spot on the team next year.  Drag ass and play like you just want to get it over with, and you can take a walk, regardless of who you are.

Additionally, the sooner we start negotiations with a new coach, the better.  Give the new guy a chance to scout playoff games and see what free agents from those teams he may like to have play for him.  Give him a chance to get a message to the players before they leave for the off-season, letting them know how he expects them to prepare while they're away.  The only thing that would prevent this is if we're after a coach that's currently employed by one of the playoff teams.  But really, that's not the kind of guy this team needs right now anyway.

Does this sound completely unreasonable, given yesterday's performance?

Not unreasonable, but, I’d let Romeo finish the season out. There’s no one on the current staff I’m happy enough with to even coach the finall game. While I think Romeo’s been terrible, I wouldn’t fire him until the day after Pittsburgh.

The day after? How about having the pink slip waiting for him when he gets back to the office from Pittsburgh. Hell, give it to him in an envelope before the game but with a sticky-note that says “Do Not Open until you get home.”

I truly believe that there is an apathy that surrounds this Team. I mean if Lerner had any stones Romeo would of been fired after week 3. This team has been unprepared to play football since July.
This franchise is so used to losing that it is the norm, it is what to be expected. The press is soft towards this franchise, the fans show up every year like cattle, and by the looks of this site no one gives a shit.
So who cares if Romeo gets fired yesterday, tomorrow, or next week, until the mind set changes around this team, and there is some heart instilled in this franchise, don’t expect this product to change.

I would have been behind this 100% 3 or 4 weeks ago if Lerner really is going to give Romeo the axe. Others who are going to be around could at least start planning for next season. You have to believe Lerner truely hasn’t made up his mind.

But at this point, what difference does it make?

I think it takes more guts to stick with a guy when it isn’t working than it is to get rid of him too soon for what that is worth. Just my 2cents.
