PFT- Savage Fired
I'm not overly surprised, but I'll admit, I'm a Savage fan. He improved the talent on the team during his time here and I hoped for a better ending. Best of luck to Phil.

Ultimately, if true, I don’t think it was Savage’s talent evaluation that cost him. The organization was completely dysfunctional with the Winslow incident and the email to the fan. This ultimately is what cost Phil the job

If this is true, then Lerner is a complete idiot.

I like the comment about whether Savage will have to file a grievance to get his contractual pay.

Seriously?
I should put this in caps, because I fell like shouting, but where exactly do you see the talent on this team.
Sure, you can list 4 or 5 or 6 good players, but this is one of the worst assemblages of “talent” that I have seen in years.
A bunch of pathetic, heartless, gutless players. Tell me I’m wrong when the Bengals who were 0-8 without their QB managed to finish ahed of the Browns.
Do you think this team could have beaten the Lions this week?
Hard facts must be faced, this team is in just as bad shape as when Savage took over. And we now officially are a league wide joke.
Here’s the true test as to whether Savage has any skills at the job – where do you think his next major job will be?
I hear the Tiger Cats are hiring.

I am assuming this is a reply to me. The team was competitive when our top 2 QB’s were healthy. Anything else to the end of the season is an overreaction

PD says Savage was fired by Lerner for draft errors and overspending on free agents.

You don’t see some talent on this team? Compare the talent side-by-side of the ’04 and ’08 Browns:
QB- Garcia vs. Anderson/Quinn- Advantage: ’08
RB- Suggs/Green vs. Lewis- Advantage: ’08
WR- Northcutt/Bryant vs. Edwards/Stallworth- Advantage: ’08
TE- Winslow/Heiden vs. Winslow/Heiden- Advantage: PUSH
LT- Verba vs. Thomas- Advantage: ’08
LG- Garmon vs. Steinbach- Advantage: ’08
C- Faine vs. Fraley- Advantage: ’04?
RG- DeMar/Cook/Zukaskas vs. Hadnot- Advantage: ’08?
RT- Tucker vs. Shaffer- Advantage: ’04
DE- Brown/Ekuban/Lang vs. Williams/Smith/Smith- Advantage: Push?
DT- Warren/Roye vs. Rogers- Advantage: ’08
OLB- Thompson/Holdman vs. McGinest/Wimbley- Advantage: ’08?
ILB- Davis vs. Davis/Jackson- Advantage: ’08?
CB- Bodden/Henry vs.Wright/McDonald- Advantage: ’04?
S- Griffith/Crocker vs. Jones/Pool- Advantage: ’08
PR/KR- Northcutt vs. Cribbs- Advantage: ’08

Lerner fired Savage by phone but he has enough respect for Crennel to fire him in person.

Not an Overreaction
Listen, if you find 4-8 to be “competitive”, then you should be satisfied with this team.
I do feel however that a better coaching staff will improve this team – maybe they can push for .500 next season if they have an easier schedule.
This was one of the grimmest seasons I can ever remember, and it’s going to take a while to wash the sour taste out of back-to-back shutouts against the Bengals and Steelers out of my mouth.
And – I say this calmly – it is not an “overreaction” to reconfigure a team that has finished over .500 once in five years. All good teams do so. After all, what are you trying to save otherwise? Team chemistry? A roster full of stars?

Just a note: try to hit the reply button next to the name of the person/post you are replying to. That way, it’s easier for the common scrollers to distinguish who you are addressing (a.k.a. more of a “threaded” discussion).
By competitive, I don’t think Roger Dorn meant he was satisfied with the team’s performance at all. However, we were still a hair away from beating the Broncos, Ravens, and Colts during that stretch (competitiveness = putting up a fight). When we lost Anderson and Quinn, we were guaranteed blowouts to the eyes of the Eagles, Titans, Bengals, and Steelers.
