No big surprises through the first five picks, but I don’t agree at all with the Falcons taking Matt Ryan. They could’ve had a QB in the second round and Glenn Dorsey there.

Could not agree more. I think Brohm is the best QB in the draft. By the way, I would be pissed if I was a Chiefs fan. How could they turn down the number ten pick along with a second rounder and next years first rounder from the Saints to move down five spots?

Flacco to the Ratbirds. Sweet. He has bust written all over him. Troy Smith is still the best QB on that roster.

Wow…from Gosder Cherilus to the Lions and Joe Flacco to the Ravens, I’m blown away. In a laughable way.

Panthers trade into 1st round to get Otah.

Ravens Joe Flacco Pick -- Kid has a gun for an arm- Video Link

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZxW_RdJjtos

The problem with the video is it’s all against Division 1-AA talent defenses. But, if you look carefully, the kid has a “flick” release, he gets rid of the ball fast and he has AWESOME accuracy.

With this kid, it’s not whether he can get rid of the ball in time, he can. The problem is, can he survive the NFL beatings. Can this kid escape getting his head knocked off or his knees blown out by NFL level talent? Is he the next Big Ben?

I don’t think so, I think the kid will get hurt. Quickly.

by gentryholdem on Apr 26, 2008 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

I have a hard time understanding why a guy who could not beat out Tyler Palko is worth a first round pick.

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 26, 2008 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t diss the fact that Flacco is on their roster, but THIS high? They should’ve gotten him in the middle of round two.

i think BIG ARM QB’s are riskier especially with the speed of the Defenses in the AFC North and Flacco best target is a TE

by Bereadawg on Apr 26, 2008 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Atlanta has traded back into the first round? They could have had Dorsey and Brohm. They have to be looking DL right?

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 26, 2008 5:29 PM EDT reply actions

Sam Baker is a second to third round guy. Thank God I am not a Falcons fan…

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 26, 2008 5:30 PM EDT reply actions

I’m absolutely blown away. Atlanta, Detroit, and Baltimore have done very poor in terms of VALUE trading, in my opinion.

Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.

by Chris Pokorny on Apr 26, 2008 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

It is not like Atlanta has a shortage of needs. LB, DL, WR, TE, CB, S and they choose a guy who they could have taken in the second round?

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 26, 2008 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Mendenhall to the Steelers. I personally think Mendenhall will be unproductive as an NFL runner.

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 26, 2008 5:42 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I’d rather they take him than getting an offensive lineman. Makes it easier for our new bunch of guys to wreck havoc on them.

I agree i was happy when otah got picked

by Bereadawg on Apr 26, 2008 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I was worried one of the good ones would drop to them. I guess they are cool with another year of Max Starks…

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 26, 2008 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

so they pick a RB and still nobody to block for him, hmmmm

by Bereadawg on Apr 26, 2008 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely. Both teams with two first-rounders to start with, Kansas City and Dallas, have done very well in round one.

I still think we have the best first day draft

1.Quinn
2.Rodgers
3. Williams

by Bereadawg on Apr 26, 2008 6:10 PM EDT reply actions

In terms of old-style ways, most certainly. Since Day 1 is only two rounds now, Quinn and Rodgers still looks good, but not nearly as impressive as with Corey W. in there.

Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.

by Chris Pokorny on Apr 26, 2008 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Check That...

I forgot that it was Corey Williams that we got in round two, while Shaun Rogers was obtained through round three. In that case, Quinn and Williams as the first two picks does seem like the best first day draft, arguably.

Mental note: Shaun Rogers, not Shaun Rodgers.

i think Steve Young is looking for a GM job somewhere, he’s going crazy…..lol

by Bereadawg on Apr 26, 2008 6:20 PM EDT reply actions

This is clearly the year of the trades in the NFL Draft. Jets make what should be the final trade in round one with the Packers.

by Chris Pokorny on Apr 26, 2008 6:27 PM EDT reply actions

With the FINAL pick in the first round, the New York Giants select…SAFETY KENNY PHILLIPS. If he wasn’t taken in round one, it would’ve ended a 13-year streak for Miami having a player taken in round one.

Time to get something to eat. If the Browns make some type of stunning trade in the next half hour, someone start a FANPOST discussion on it and I’ll promote it to the front page when I get back to my computer.

And with the 32nd Pick the Cleveland Browns elect to not trade away their backup QB because of their brutal schedule next year.

by gentryholdem on Apr 26, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

We need to start looking at it in the light that we’re making everyone else’s schedule brutal :D

The quarterbacks falling off the board.

Brian Brohm, who should’ve gone much higher, is taken by the Packers at No. 56 in round two.
Chad Henne is then taken with the next pick, No. 57, by the Miami Dolphins.

So far, it looks like our linebackers, Bruce Davis and Shawn Crable, will survive to Day 2. Dan Connor is still on the board, interestingly enough…

Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.

by Chris Pokorny on Apr 26, 2008 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

Well, only four picks left on Day 1. Unless the Browns make a deal ASAP, all of our attention will be on Day 2, and the possible trade for Fabian Washington, as expected.

Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.

by Chris Pokorny on Apr 26, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

i’d be happy with

1.Quinn
2. rodgers
3.williams
4 washington
5 crable

by Bereadawg on Apr 26, 2008 8:47 PM EDT reply actions

I have a feeling Connor will be the first guy (or close to that) taken in round three. The big namers who remain after Day 1 always seem to get scouted up overnight and taken first on Day 2.

If we draft Shawn Crable I will puke.

Well, it’s 11:57 PM and Michigan still sucks….

I would like to see us try and get Reggie Smith, a cornerback from Oklahoma tomorrow. We may need to trade into the third round but I think it would be worth it.

by gahnki on Apr 26, 2008 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Kevin Smith. 2,500 yards in season is no joke…

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 27, 2008 5:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I gotta admit, without the Brown’s involved I had a much harder time getting into the draft than usual/ For the record, I don’t think Matt Ryan has much chance of being a viable NFL QB. Here’s hoping we can grab Bruce Davis….

Oh, and Chauncy Washington from USC is still available. I’m probably biased, but if we happened to get him I’d literally-literally- dance a jig.
