Browns Sign GM Savage to 3-Year Extension
"I am extremely grateful to Randy Lerner and the Browns' organization for giving me an opportunity as a first time GM back in January 2005 and now to continue with this extension through the 2012 season," said Phil Savage. "We have worked very hard to turn the Browns around, on and off the field, and our team is looking forward to the 2008 season. From a personal standpoint, I want to also thank the many Browns' fans who have been so supportive during my time here."
Not upset at all with this signing. Nice to see Savage sticking around and, hopefully, finishing what he has started here.

Would you be UPSET? He’s turned the Browns around in 3 years, this man should get the key to Cleveland.

Good to see that the Browns are focused on keeping the right kind of people around (Chud, Tucker, Romeo, Phil, etc…)

Day by day, I’m starting to believe more and more that the Browns are ready to be considered the class of the AFC North for years to come (alas Colts in the AFC South, Patriots in the AFC East). Savage has panned out better than anyone could’ve hoped for (in realistic expectations).

You’re on a Browns blog, and you don’t want to talk about which QB is the future of this franchise?
Not to be harsh, but I think you either need to stop visiting this site for the next year, or stop complaining. This is obviously going to be the main discussion for the next season.

Nat -
What progress are we making? Are we offering critical analysis or reasoning? Can we learn more about the Browns, our chances of winning, or anything else right now? Or is it just conjecture?
I’ve read – months ago – a handful of pieces that talked about the QB situation intelligently. The situation is not dynamic: we are not getting new information, which might inform a reevaluation. Unfortunately, we just have to wait until the season starts.
Or maybe this should be talked to death, forever.

Using your reasoning, nothing should ever be talked about on this blog. Everything on this blog is conjecture. Nothing we ever do on this blog is making progress or improves the chances of the Browns winning.
I enjoy the discussions and viewpoints that other people have about the Browns, and to say that any discussion on the QB debate has no chance of “critical analysis or reasoning” is a pretty broad statement. Someone might offer a little nugget that you might never have thought of, or potentially could pass on something that they read somewhere else. I’d like to hear that because I’m excited about this next season.
Regardless, it’s the offseason. We had no picks before the 4th round. What exactly should we talk about? I’d argue that it’s just as appropriate to talk about our 2 QBs as it is to talk about which undrafted free agent should make the practice squad.
I appreciate that you might have discussed this topic ad nauseam with your friends/colleagues, but I haven’t and am interested in other’s views about it. I apologize if I came off snarky and look forward to rooting on the Browns with you this season.

Let me clarify.
What progress are we making?
This does not mean that we are not helping the team progress. This means that our analysis has come to a halt. The point of being a fan is not to have power over the team, the point is to have power over how we view the team.
Everything on this blog is conjecture.
Also, not true. If this were the case, I would kindly stop coming. Pokorny does an excellent job of providing actual, concrete descriptions to his reasoning. “Guessing” isn’t wrong, provided you take the time to examine data and provide depth to your point.
Let’s look at context. Where we are, right now, is a dead-zone. Once minicamps, preseason and the regular season start, this debate will have some new input. We can examine the position with fresh intelligence. Until then, we have to mine data from BQ and DA’s college years, or in DA’s case, his limited starts in the pros, in order to come to any logical conclusion. And, frankly, I’m not seeing that done too often.
So when I hear people blithely reminding us of the mere existence of “debate” and “controversy,” yeah, I get a little tired of it.

Both these arguments have merit. Personally, I have to agree with joeee…I think we’ve reached the limit of intelligent conversation on this issue until some new data comes in.

At least I do not pick just flat out losers like the browns. But if you knew anything about me you would understand why those teams are my Fav.whether you believe it or not i am not a bandwagon team.
Steeler fan: since i was born.
Yankees: since I was 7 years old, kind of hard to root for loser such as the pirates and Cleveland when you are 7, so I been a Yankee fan ever since through the good and bad.
Ohio State: Jim tressel, me being born and raise in Youngstown made me a huge fan of YSU and Jim Tressel, so when he became the head coach for OSU, thats the move I made.
Cavs: before Lebron i was not a NBA fan. Also doesnt hurt that we played st. vincet st mary when i was in high school when lebron was playing (we lost no doubt)
Any more questions feel free to ask? I always like a little browns poking fun at me. Makes my victory against the Browns a little sweeter.

Is jumping from one team to another base on their success each year. So doing it at 7 years old does not go under bandwagon. Tired of wasting my breath here. see you sept. 14

Cavs: before Lebron i was not a NBA fan.
Translation: Before the Cavs got the sport’s best player ever, I did not like them or the sport. Now I like the Cavs and the NBA.
whether you believe it or not i am not a bandwagon team.

Also, even when you were not an expansion team you guys sucked… Once again you guys have yet to win a superbowl. We got 5. Plus why you looking for excuses of why we beat you guys. If I was a browns fan i take it like a man and say this years going to be different forget about the past look towards the future. The browns got a good team, look forward to it no need to be bashing about the past.

Listen pal. The Steelers have been good for a long time. We know it. And most of us hate it too.
And yes you got 5 Super Bowl titles (although I think the 5th was a bit giftwrapped, but that’s another argument for another day). Good for you. Congratulations. But while the Browns do not have any Super Bowl wins, they still own 4 NFL championships. Yes they were long ago, but they still count. So yes you have 5 to our 4. Feel better? The NFL didn’t start
Come back and talk to me when your squad has made 6 title games in a row.
Oh, and we had the best player in NFL history too.

Absolutely, I will give you Jim Brown who IMO and also yours was and is still the best player this game has ever seen. I am not trying to pick a fight at all, my only point I was trying to make was that I did not think that having 08-09 superbowl champs on your banner was necessary. Yes, this is your blog for the fans of the browns and I completely understand your guys hopes and dreams for this team this year. But the reality is every team has a chance at winning that Superbowl (even oakland). Believe me, I have some what new respect for the Browns because my g/f family are huge browns fans, and i enjoy their talks on not only their knowledge of the browns but the game as a whole.
With that being said you are correct Talonk you do have 4 NFL championships during the pre-superbowl era, and believe me the steelers were no good i know their history, they sucked and I stand by that. The only argument i can make is the simple, we have the most champion ships of the post 1967 era. pre 1967 is a different story which was pretty much the browns era.
Bereadawg, I like what you write over at BTSC and I enjoy your thoughts and comments. I can not say that I am afraid of the Browns this year but i can say that they can not be over looked anymore they have enough talent to beat any team at any given time, including the steelers.
I just want to make that clear, regardless if anyone wants to hear from me or not, because I do not go looking into peoples username to find something to pick on them about. Because, I do not feel that says anything about the Browns, Steelers and the rest of the NFL, which is what this site is all about, where opposing teams fans can come together and talk about football, not if someones a bandwagon person, or if i make silly and simple spelling errors because i am deaf. Believe it or not i come to this site just as often as I do at BTSC because I enjoy learning about a team that we play twice a year.

Good. I really hate it getting into “p*ssing” matches with opposing fans. Light-hearted ribbing is fine, but way too often do the attacks get personal. I usually will stay out of those discussions (and they typically happen more on the ESPN type boards, not here).
Just a clarification on one of your comments, the Steelers are tied for the most super bowl wins with the Niners and Cowboys. (I’d give a slight nod to the Niners, since they haven’t lost one yet, but that’s neither here nor there).
