Thoughts on Reading Rubbish Football Posts?

I'm sure that many of you frequent other Browns message boards and see some of the ridiculous comments made by fans. I still can't believe how quick people are to suggest cutting a player during a game after they made a single bad play.

Today, this comment over on Cleveland.com caught my eye in terms of ridiculous comments:

"I saw on another blog that Browns should try to trade for Lito Shepherd of Eagles and offer K2, many people got on and wagon. The justification of trading K2 was his requesting new contract and that there may not be much mileage on knees left. Picking up Rucker in draft also helps TE position for future. The idea is a thought to consider." Link to comment

Really? I can't even justify the thought of that trade. True, Kellen Winslow has had some injury issues. But...how many games has the guy played over the past two years? 32 out of 32 games. You don't even consider taking a big step back on the offense just to take a little step forward on the defense.

I should start a weekly feature called "rubbish post of the week." Anyone up for reading something like that (vote in the poll below)?

 • Yes, I love reading ignorance for kicks
 • No, the thought doesn't even interest me

Some People

Just post stupid stuff, because they want the attention. They were probably not hugged enough when they were kids(or they are still kids now, and don’t know any better).

The worst had to be a few times that I had to take the bus several months ago. Hearing some of those people talk about football brought me to tears of laughter, because they seem so sincere and clueless at the same time.

Your first mistake was reading the comments section on Cleveland.com.

Hey, good point. +1

The reason I initially read it, though, is because sometimes people will mention/link to an article on ESPN or another website that I might have missed. In the midst, I get caught up in :-x

I am tempted to make a few dumb comments to see if I can make it on to DBN.

Maybe I will try to make intelligent posts and I will still make it.

Dear Lord the season needs to start.

Good Point!

I agree with all of your comments. But I too have spewed out that K2 should go. Not because of his nagging injuries or 4 surgeries… BUT because of his most recent talk of a holdout.
Will he show up in June or July? Who knows! But if he doesn’t and it does come to light that he wants more $$ we need to trade him.

Example – He demands more $$ (even though we paid him very well during the 2 years he missed, and it was in his contract that he was not allowed to partake in dangerous activity – aka wheelies with a motorcycle)
So we give him more money to keep him happy and he goes out in 08 with another 16 game season and plays like he did in 07. What next? I would say he tries to hold out again and get more money!! Why wouldn’t he?

Chad Johnson has reworked his current deal 2 TIMES already and he is working on #3 as we speak.

I love K2. He is a very special talent. But it is very difficult to run a successful business with a “me” type of employee.

Cut him loose (IF he does in fact hold out)

I understand the frustration over the holdout, but I still wouldn’t trade him to another team or cut him loose. Much of the case isn’t Winslow demanding more money either, in all likelihood. It’s his agent Drew Rosenhaus, who is notoriously known for demanding more money.

Yes, Winslow himself chose to go with an aggressive agent in Rosenhaus. As an organization though, I think the Browns need to show tolerance for these type of situations—after all, it could influence future free agents’ decisions to pursue the Browns. Also, I think the whole ‘holdout’ situation was blown out of proportion by the media. As soon as rumors started that he wanted a new contract, mysterious sources were clouding the papers with “holdout this!” and “holdout that!”. From Winslow/Rosenhaus themselves, I haven’t really heard that…maybe a hint, but that’s not as bad as what I’ve seen elsewhere around the league.
