Tony Grossi
Is it just me or is Tony Grossi a complete moron??
He is supposed to be our front line representative for information concerning the Cleveland Browns and more often than not I am disappointed when I read his drivle.
His most recent ASK TONY was quite comical has he ranked the Top 5 NFL fans. Included in his top 5 was Buffalo.........
Are you kidding me? I am not 100% sure but haven' t they gone almost a decade without a selling out a game??
Maybe when they are winning they are good but come on!!! The Buffalo fans are not loyal in the least. They remind me quite a bit of the Bungles fans!!!
Just thought I would vent a little and maybe get someone's advice as to where I can start getting my Browns information from now on.......

Ha, in a way, Grossi’s statement could’ve been a good selection for my next “rubbish football post of the week”.
The big thing that stands out is all of the talk on the Bills moving their elsewhere, and even playing a few games in Toronto. When they were putting together .500 records towards the middle of seasons, the fans couldn’t even watch the games on CBS television because of the blackout rule—they weren’t selling out their own stadium.
Buffalo fans shouldn’t get the wrong idea; there are some very loyal Bills fans—just go over to Buffalo Rumblings and check out how seriously they take things. However, every team in the NFL has its loyal share of fans.
I would definitely ask for more clarification from Grossi on this one, just to see what his reasoning was. To be fair, I always like to give someone a chance to respond. Hey AaronD…feel up to sending him an email and seeing if you get your name in his next “Ask Tony”? :p

Kansas City was a CLEAR omission from that list.
Aaron, I agree, “Ask Tony”. I got in there a couple of weeks ago by stating that Jerome Harrison had a good “yards per touch” average in the regular season. Throw in a few quick, meaningful stats and I bet he picks your question. Especially in the “down period” between now and training camp.

I forgot
But he isn’t a complete moron. He says a lot of intelligent things, and usually is rational about potential trades and free agents and such.

My big issue with Grossi is that with the access to the Browns facilities and on gameday that he has, I don’t think he’s providing us with the best analysis possible. Terry Pluto, who presumably has less time to access the Browns considering he covers all of the Cleveland sports (and is more of a columnist), provides a lot more intriguing information in one day than Grossi does in a week.
Still, I can’t say Grossi is a moron—otherwise, I wouldn’t even try reading his content. I think it’s more of frustration on my part that I believe he could offer more.
In the case of the Bills statement though, again, it’s something that definitely warrants clarification. Perhaps Grossi had special interaction with certain fans the times he’s gone to Buffalo that really left an impression on him.

By the way, here is a post from someone living in Rochester, NY in response to Grossi’s mention of the Bills:
Posted by TheGlue29 on 06/01/08 at 10:55AMAs a native of Rochester, NY…I can tell you that when Tony says he has Buffalo Bills fans as the 4th best in the NFL, he has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about.
If you go to a Bills game wearing the other team’s colors, someone WILL start a fistfight with you. Unless you’re a woman or a child. Then you’ll just have beer poured on you all game long.
Bills fans talk very loud, very annoying trash from the NFL draft on, they talk about how the Bills are better than every other team, how they’ve been fans since they were born and how the Bills are going to win the Super Bowl.
Then once it becomes apparent to Bills fans that their team will not contend for the playoffs, they take all of their Bills stuff down, stop going to any games and pretend to watch the Yankees.
Bills fans just don’t show up to games unless the team is leading the division. A few years ago, in Drew Bledsoe’s first year as a Bill, they weren’t making the playoffs. Their last game of the season was against the Bungles (we’re talking Joke Of The NFL Bungles), and Bills fans were courting the soon to be Free Agent Takeo Spikes on behalf of the front office.
In a game that was won before the opening kickoff, in a year in which Drew Bledsoe had re written almost all of Jim Kelly’s single season Buffalo passing records, they couldn’t sell out their stadium for the season finale against the Bungles.
Buffalo Bills “fans” are among the most idiotic and least loyal in the league, and that is the main reason why the Bills will most likely be moved to Toronto within the next five years.
So yeah…Bills fans are #4?? That’s so wrong and such an uneducated assumption that I don’t know weather to laugh or to never read another Plain Dealer article again.
I mean, I’ve ragged on Grossi before but this is just shoddy reporting at best. I seriously wonder if he was drunk when he came up with that list.
Try this way: 1) Green Bay 2) Cleveland 3) Kansas City 4) Pittsburgh 5) Dallas.

You know, I actually like Bills fans and see them, largely, in a similar light as Browns fans. Honestly, I don’t think Browns fans deserve the recognition that we get. There are a large number of ignorant fans, fairweather fans, and people who go to the games for social purposes, not football purposes. I remember hearing the story of the fans at Muni booing when Schottenheimer would put in the nickel defense. Honestly, after attending a few games at CBS, I’m not sure how many people could describe what the nickel defense is in that stadium
1) Green Bay 2) Kansas City 3) Pittsburgh 4) Seattle (recently) 5) Dallas

I agree about the ignorant people I hear talking about it left and right…very annoying. However, I just assume that every team has a similar bunch.
One of the defining things for Cleveland fans in my eyes is seeing so many people heading to training camp in Berea whenever they have a chance. I can’t honestly say whether or not other teams have the same amount of fans at their training camps, but it’s something that always sticks out in my eyes.
