Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Cleveland Browns Stadium in Madden '09

Operation Sports released screenshots of all 32 NFL stadiums in the videogame Madden '09 last night. Here is the outside shot of Cleveland Browns Stadium:

I have to admit -- our stadium from the outside looks kind of bland compared to some of the other stadiums shown. Still, I love seeing the Downtown skyline in the background (although based on the portion of the stadium being shown, technically the only thing we should see in the background is the lake, right?).

Also, be sure to check out Drewski's fanpost of the Browns players' Madden '09 ratings.

It bothers me that every team’s stadium screenshot has the same generic highway, parking lot, and mass of people in front of it…and each city’s skyline just seems to be pasted into the background.

Are these screenshots loading screens? Artwork? I remember hearing that there were going to be 3D flyovers – these just appear to be 2D screens.

ALSO, you can see the reflection of Cleveland’s skyline in the stadium’s front glass siding…when the skyline, at the same time, is displayed behind the stadium. I’m kinda hoping this isn’t the type of thing that makes it into the game.

nice pickup on the reflection of the skyline in the glass.

I haven’t played Madden in years, but I’m aware of the strides the game has made. And they couldn’t spend a little more attention to detail? why not show the lake in the background, as is, and include a panning of the skyline in another scene?

Yeah, good catch; I missed that on my first look.

I’m also trying to determine if the Terminal Tower is positioned correctly from the angle being shown…(if you ignore the stadium)

here is a larger image of the screenshot.

My mind started spinning trying to imagine the skyline, and my view from our office in Shaker Heights is clear, but not helpful here. So I did a Google image search of Cleveland skyline to find one that has the Terminal Tower and Key building in similar positions, and came up with this.. This shot appears to be coming from the southwest, likely on I-90 E. So the opposite view (the only other that would put the buildings in the same location) is from the Northeast, which would makes sense given the appearance of the Key tower dwarfing the Terminal Tower by being in the foreground, as is the opposite case in the “real” snapshot of the skyline.

However, does there not appear to be another building directly in front of the Terminal Tower in the Madden image, and doesn’t it strike a resemblance to a “mini” Key tower?

Also, you can see the GLSC (the big globe) more in the midst of downtown, when in reality, it’s right next door to the stadium.

That “mini” Key Tower does exist – it is on the SW corner of Ontario and St. Clair, right next to the “big” Key Tower. But it is weird just seeing it standing there all alone.

Ahh, I think i can see that now.

Not working downtown in a few years has erased my memory, other than the routine walk from the Halle Garage to Progressive Field or the Pit to the Stadium.

I’m fairly sure its just a jumbled collection of Cleveland landmarks(?) copied and pasted on top of each other, poorly.

The GLSC pic is taken from the Rock Hall – so technically the stadium should be across the water from where it is now (right next to the GLSC). They Key Building, Justice Center, and Terminal Tower seem to just be randomly placed in the background. In order for the Terminal Tower to be viewed on the left side of the Key Building (as it is in the pic) you would have to be standing well southeast of the Stadium, and even then, I’m pretty sure the BP Building (don’t know what its called now) would have to be in the mix.
