I hate Bud Shaw

The internet is the place for random ranting and complaining, right?

I am thankful to have great reporters at the PD like Terry Pluto, and reporters decent enough not to suck 100% of the time like Toni Grossi.  But let's be honest; Bud Shaw is terrible.

His jokes are catered to a snooty, upper class-type crowd, and aren't even all that funny.  Meanwhile, you get the impression he thinks he is hilarious.  You can see that graying mustache and those thick glasses giggling like a schoolgirl as he mocks pretty much every athlete in Cleveland.  He likes to talk a lot of shit about athletes because they make so much money, thinking it will somehow endear him to a working class town like Cleveland.  Then he makes beer jokes at the Dawg Pound's expense.  He is worse than an elitist; he is an elitist posing as a working class dude.

I just can't help thinking that this guy is singlehandedly chasing LeBron to Brooklyn.

How about Patrick McManamon of the ABJ? I do like Doerschuck’s work too—it’s just I forget to check out the Repository as much as I should.

Didn he used to write for ClevelandBrowns.com too? I swear I remember his name on the official site news postings several years back…

I’ve never heard of Doerschuck—who is he and where can I find his articles? I would love to find a good cleveland sports writer.

Also, Windhorst is fantastic. Luckily, I know many websites with great baseball analysis. Football stuff is much harder to find (mostly because it doesn’t lend itself to statistical analysis the way baseball does).

speaking of Windy, is there an update on his condition? I respect his and his family’s privacy, but I’d just like to know more about how he’s doing.

You know Selig? Ombudsman.

i should clarify

ranking above is of browns beat writers. pluto is obviously a better sportswriter than doerschuk. but doerschuk crowbars in browns stories 3 times a week even in the offseason.

I don’t hate him [Shaw], but I never really read his articles anymore, even if I know they are related to a topic that may be of interest to me. Some writers just don’t fulfill my taste as well, so I guess his style has chased me away a little.

I stopped reading Shaw and Livingston a long time ago. Pluto is the only reason I even go to cleveland.com any more (other than to read the comments section whenever I need a good laugh).

I get angry when I read the comments section. I don’t understand where these people come from…they seem so much stupider on the internet than in person.

I actually don’t laugh much…..it really makes me sad. I’m worried about the state of our country with so many supid people living in it. I guess they’ve always been out there, it’s just that the internet gives them the ability to show everyone how dumb they are.

Actually, I suspect that you would probably find them pretty stupid in person as well, should you meet them.

mcmanamon

is ok, but he seems to rarely hit on unique points, which pluto does constantly.

doerschuk just started a blog on cantonrep called Fresh Brownies. hes kind of a goof, and he can stick to the party line too long. but he strikes me as one of us.

for best overall sportswriter in cleveland, i’d go with abj’s brian windhorst. he can be harsh to the cavaliers players and organization, but dude is incredible in every category when it comes to nba beats.. writing style, game analysis, deep sources, objectivity, knowledge of the league, humor. if it wasnt for james, i think he’d be writing full time for espn already.

Pluto is the king

Pluto is an excellent writer, irregardless of the subject. I’m just glad we’ve got him

Shaw and Livingston would write something smug and depressing about the Browns after a Super Bowl victory. They love playing on the fears of the Cleveland fan. Apparently they think making Cleveland fans miserable is the main part of their job description.
