Rucker out 6 weeks with knee injury
I really hope that Heiden is fully healed. We are going to need him.

A darn shame; we need as many weapons as we can get for the opener. Losing the option to go to him is a slight step back. I think this officially confirms Charles Ali’s roster spot to start the season, and Dinkins or Cieslak’s odds just went up.
I don’t think we’ll carry five tight ends (including Rucker) Week 1 though, but four looks definite now. (Good thing I didn’t publish my 53-man roster projection yesterday).

Sooo…we have no draft picks in the first 3 rounds, and now both of our fourth round picks are injured. Looks like we won’t be getting much of a contribution this year from our rookies.
Of course, Rucker and Bell could really improve our team in the second half of the season, if they’re healthy and familiar with the offense/defense.

From the get-go, I didn’t expect major contributions from any of our draft picks this year. Hall has shown some potential in camp, but he’ll likely be stuck behind Wimbley, Peek, and McGinest on most downs this season.
Rucker, out only six weeks, will have somewhat of an advantage if he stays on schedule. Six weeks from now is around October 1 I believe, and that is the week that we have our bye (we don’t play again until the 13th against the Giants on MNF).
But yes, all things considered, the contributions from rookies early on appear to be very minimal—which won’t necessarily be a bad thing, now that we have a lot of veterans / proven players locked in at starting roles.

There’s still room on the Heiden bandwagon if anyone wants to jump on here with me.
