Also, as part of this, CB Mil’von James was waived.

According to this, the Browns first inquired about Michael Lehan. Chris Mortensen is reporting that it is a 7th round pick that goes to Miami.

If it’s a seventh, it’s a great trade for the Browns.

I agree. The article says that this guy was a starter for two years. He’s probably not great, but I’m sure he’s an upgrade over guy like A.J. Davis. I can’t believe we got him for only a seventh round pick.

I DISAGREE
He was a Dolphin. Shouldn’t that be enough to make us all cringe??
We threw away another draft pick on a guy who was going to get cut by the Dolphins on August 30th…………………. Terrible move.
Sign Ty Law and trade for Lito Sheppard if you want to win games and have a decent defense.

You should know that a corner is entirely reliant on his pass rush to succeed. Even the best corners can only handle a WR for so long. Daniels may or may not work out, but Savage traded a 7th round pick for a 26 year-old who can play as a 3rd or 4th CB for this team. I see nothing wrong with that, because 7th rounders rarely pan out to anything.

He was going to be released in 10 days.!!!!
Why give away all of our drafts picks year in and year out???
I am only saying we should sign Ty and Lito because they are solid and could be contributers from day one.
Mcdonald is unproven and Wright missed games last year as a rookie. Building depth is great, I agree…….. I think I am still annoyed that Wright celebrated after his INT… what an idiot!!!!
Sure it’s ok to celebrate after you give up a huge pathetic pass interference call to a subpar WR and then get burned on a 2nd TD…
These are the guys who we trust to guard T.O and Plax???? Plleeeaaassseeeee……….
Our DL will be fine, and the DB’s wil be servicable (if healthy) – be worried about the LB’s!
Wimbley is overrated (Mr. I have ONE move) and Andra Davis should have been cut after throwing that punch.
The End.

We’re not having the same argument here. You want to complain that they didn’t go get a top-end CB… fine. There is some concern there, no doubt. However, that is an entirely different argument than the argument against trading a 7th round pick for a nickel/dime corner when the team needed a nickel/dime corner. This guy is probably not anything great, but he’s got experience and can match-up against a 3rd or 4th WR in most cases, at least I’d imagine.
Also, while there may be an argument against trading draft picks, lets also remember that this would appear to be done on the idea that the team will be recouping draft picks after it trades whichever QB wins the hearts and minds of the front office during the season. And, again… this was a 7th round pick. Two years ago a team offered St. Louis (if memory serves) a 7th round pick just to not take the full 15 minutes on their selection. Most 7th round picks, if you have a good scouting staff, are special teamers and positional depth.

The front office made the commitment to work on the defensive line this season, so that’s where the investments went. We’re past the point of trying to heavily invest in Law or Sheppard now. It’s just something that we’ll have to deal with this year, and hope that Mel Tucker’s coaching ability as coordinator can elevate the play of the DB’s.

What is so great about Ty Law and Lito Sheppard?
Sheppard is so good that his team spent 75 million on another corner. Not to mention the first round draft pick that they want for him.
Law is so good that 31 other teams have kicked the tires and said “Ahhh, we’re good, thanks.”
Travis Daniels is depth. That is what we needed.

You’re right, anyone who plays for the Dolphins is terrible. Great analysis.
You know, people could have said the same thing about the Browns just a year ago.

We’ve just recouped from the Daven Holly injury depth-wise, only having to spend a reported 7th rounder. I’d say I’m pleased enough. The Phinsider has some talk on the trade, by the way…the fans there are ecstatic to get rid of him.

Not too impressive
It may provide a little depth I agree. If he sees the field it is worth a 7th rounder. I definately think at least 5 CBs have to make this team.

E. Wright
B. McDonald
T. Cousin
T. Daniels
—————————-
A.J. Davis
Jereme Perry
——————————
Bottom two to battle it out I’d imagine. I’d still give the edge to Perry though. In the end though, M. Adams still counts as a CB above Cousin.

Lets remember the guy may not be something super special, but he has 25 starts, which is more then Wright and Mcdonald combined, and he is also experienced at both corner and saftey. It may only be a band-aid for now but at least between him and Mike Adams, that gives us two guys that can cover both the corner and saftey positions if anyone gets hurt, or if Pool’s injury is worse then expected.

An experienced, fairly average CB for a 7th rounder?
sounds like a good deal to me

Worry
If the exact thing that happenned in a preseason game (safety hurt) then we are extremely thin. If two get hurt we would be down to linebackers covering 3 WR sets which does happen sometimes. I guess I think it is a position we need more players at than you think. Past season number of total DBs???

Last year, I believe we had:
1. L. Bodden
2. D. Holly
3. Eric Wright
4. B. McDonald
5. S. Jones
6. B. Pool
7. M. Adams
8. N. Sorensen
9. K. Wright
