Jim Brown Seems to think Quinn's the Starter (UPDATE: What Jim Brown Thinks Doesn't Matter, Anderson named Starter.)
From a football radio show I've never heard of. Basically, he says that the front office was meeting about the issue all day on Tuesday and came to the same conclusion, which he seems to imply is to start Quinn. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
UPDATE: Crennel announced before practice today that Anderson will start in Cincinnati. Interesting that this seems directly contrary to the wishes of, to hear Jim Brown characterize it, everybody.

OK, I listened to it. Previously, I had only read the characterization of his comments in the PD. It DEFINITELY sounds like Quinn is being prepared as the starter going into practice this week. I strongly recommend listening to this interview. Relevant comments come at about 32 minutes in.

its interesting that brown
seems to be setting crennel up, on behalf of the front office.
"we all seem to be in one accord. But it’s up to the coach to make the final decision on his lineup this week.
But if he makes the right decision on his lineup this week, I think we can be out of this terrible kind of depression we’re in."
personally im glad anderson is starting, i think he deserves a shot at cincy. but if he does poorly he and rac could be linked even closer together in blame than they already are.

The talk of Quinn doing better the DA is crazy? Where is the proof that Quinn will do any better. I mean every year that DA was the starter for more then 5 games he has made the Pro Bowl! What has Quinn done in his NFL career? So what if DA is in somewhat of a slump over the last 9 games? I don’t think a passer rating average of 55 is that bad. I mean in baseball if you bat .333 that’s good, 55 is about a .333 from a perfect passer rating. At least we are not worse then 32nd in the league in scoring. Besides you can’t blame DA for not managing the clock while on the field in the first two games. The 5 interceptions aren’t his fault, the defenders shouldn’t have caught them. At least he didn’t throw 7 right? 8pts a game should be enough to win at any level, especially in the NFL. If it wasn’t for the punter we would have won the Baltimore game, if it wasn’t for the Steeler’s and Cowboys having 11 players on the field we could have won those games too. Besides it’s not fair that other teams blitz the Browns when we don’t have all our weapons. If DA had pro bowlers and no pass rush with DBs playing off the WR’s he’d do fine…. well besides 34.5 passer rating could have been worse.
Give DA and Romeo a chance. They are nice people who try hard.
Besides what does Jim Brown know about football? Did he even play? I heard he was an average offensive lineman.
I hope Anderson starts until he can back to being the Pro Bowl QB he has been his entire career. I mean Quinn has only 3 career completions? Do want to just give up on the season even if we are 0-4? I SAY NO WAY, change is wrong and the last thing this team needs is some spark from a player who is dying to play football and who shows leadership traits. Quinn needs at least 3-4 years to sit behind DA and understand how to throw the key interceptions and to not worry about if you have under a 1min to go in a half and whether that changes how you should play. I mean if you have K2 and BE just throw it to them and don’t look away b/c you’re afraid they may not think you will throw it to them. Right?
Look forward to more insightful comments MJ32, or should I call you Magic man?

He is clearly joking/making fun of people through most of his post.

I should have done more research, turns out he was an actor in Any Given Sunday but I still don’t see how that makes him an expert.
Thanks for catching that for me!

i read the entire post as being tongue-in-cheek. you must have skipped over the entire first paragraph, where he equated the merits of a 55 QB rating to a .333 batting average in baseball.
Or saying that the INTs weren’t D.A.‘s fault, that the defenders "shouldn’t" have caught them.
Or that 8 points should be enough to win at any level, especially the NFL.
You know Selig? Ombudsman.

Tony Grossi confirmed on his Friday podcast that the sentiments Jim Brown expressed on the radio show referenced above are representative of the sentiments of most front office folks, including the owner. It will be interesting to see exactly how short the lease is for Anderson, given that most people didn’t even want to see him starting.
Could starting Anderson, or not pulling him quickly enough, be Crennel’s Waterloo?
