For real, honest question because perhaps my knowledge of the Cowboys isn’t as great as it should be:
The Cowboys OL…are they seriously this good?

Yes.
course, helps when they get away with obvious holds.

They have three Pro Bowlers I believe, so yes, they are that good. Maybe not against a line as good as the Giants, but against ours, yes.

Anybody have an update on Donte Stallworth? Steve Sanders wasn’t even given a look in the first half.

Offensive pass interference on Owens…definitely a pushoff there.

Apparently, Aikman has forgotten the sack that was called back on the penalty.

How did Shaun Smith lose his helmet early in the play without their being anything illegal in the play?
We’ll never see a replay – that might show the Dallas O-line doing something illegal and Joe Buck would spontaneously combust.

Oh there was plemty illegal. But this is Dallas, the stripes are blind to their transgressions

I’m really tired of a soft zone-2 coverage. I know man-to-man can expose weaknesses in the secondary, and we have plenty, but there seems to be some real zone issues when it comes to passing off receivers to each other.
Not to mention the tackling issues

Get use to it
Long year just like it has been a long 40 years as a fan. Goodness, I can’t recall a Browns team when the “D” took the field, I could say " Hey we are going to get the ball back on a 3 in out" This team is no different. Same crap, all talk. And NO discipline and that is on Romeo.
God Iove this team, but truth hurts. They are overated and not that good.
Oh and Phil signed Romeo to an extention, nice job.
"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"
Truth sucks sometimes.
If you think this team will make the playoffs your kidding yourself. And with Romeo running the ship, this team will not improve.
"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"
So give up, keep your defeatist attitude about the Browns, and cheer for a team that is winning.
The Browns are the Browns, and I will cheer for them and hope that they can win regardless if they are 15-0 or 0-15. After 40 years I will feel the same way, unlike you.
Losing one game to arguably the most talented roster in the NFL doesn’t mean this team “isn’t that good”.
As a fan, the only impact you can actually have on a game is in helping create a die-hard, loyal atmosphere. Calling for heads, panicking, talking about how it will always be the same losing atmosphere in Cleveland, and overreacting negatively take that small chance you have to help the team and bury it.
by rufio on Sep 8, 2008 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
You know I root for this team hard and I love the orange helmet like the majority of the fans.
However when you see repeated mistakes year after year after year the crap gets old. You look at the Steelers, who we all can’t stand, they win year after year. They treat the draft like life and death, and they don’t bring in overpriced overated players. They are consistent and good.
Thats fine if you want to sit back and cheer for them when they go 2-14 or 9-7. I choose not to. I see this franchise one of the gems in the NFL, being run poorly from top to bottom, and it is tough to take.
If you think this team the way this roster is consituted, is going to make the playoffs or even go 8-8 then you are watching this team with blinders on.
My biggest beef with this team is Romeo. He is a coordinator not a head coach. The day Bill Cowher left Pittsburgh, was the day the Browns should of made him the highest paid coach in NFL history.
I understand where your coming from, and I respect that. I look at this team differently. How many teams in the NFL have not gone to the Super Bowl? Houston, Jacksonville ( expansion) Arizona/ST.Louis Cardinals, Saints and our Beloved Browns. Pretty sad.
"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"
Frankly...
As a Cowboys fan, I was worried about this game when I saw the schedule. There are a lot of similarities between the two teams, especially on offense. Clearly, there was no chemistry between Edwards and Anderson, but I think that will come as the season wears on. If Edwards catches that deep ball early, this is a much closer game than it turned out.
So I think many of you are getting down on them too soon. Brady looks like he is done, the Chargers lost a tight one and don’t look like they can stop the run, Indy is beatable and the Jags offense is not potent. You have several new players up front on defense and young guys in the secondary. And I saw a different defensive front seven in the second half than in the first. Lots can happen in 15 games, especially if you stay healthier than the other AFC contenders.
I think your big game is next week against Pittsburgh and, from my vantage point, you match up much better with them than you do Dallas. In fact, I’m picking Cleveland to win.
"Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."
- John McKay, the first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. The fact is, this is probably the toughest game on our schedule and with our additions we’re definitely not in “mid season” form yet (though, the same could be said of the Cowboys, scary thought). Either way, we were just beaten handily by a better football team.
I don’t think the talent gap between the two teams is quite as wide as today’s one sided contest, but regardless of that Dallas looks like the class of the NFC, at the very least.
Thanks for being a classy fan.
You guys were clearly the better team today, and deserved the win.
A lot of fans in Cleveland just look for reasons to feel sorry for themselves and be negative. The tradition of not winning championships adds to that tendency. Even when the Cavs make the playoffs or even the NBA finals fans are calling for coaches and GMs heads and sometimes can’t enjoy the fact that their team is growing or improving because they are convinced they will never win the big one.
You are right, lots can happen.
Gotta Have Faith
Lou Holtz-“I f you don’t make a total commitment to whatever you’re doing, then you start looking to bail out the first time the boat starts leaking. It’s tough enough getting that boat to shore with everybody rowing, let alone when a guy stands up and starts putting his jacket on.”
I did not see anything
better than what we saw in the pre-season. There effort was better, maybe but they were clearly outmanned. I just hope they can turn it around next week. They better be prepared to play hard from the opening gun and not wait for the D-line to generate a rush until the second half. You know the the Stilllers will score a ton if BR has all day to throw.
just beat the Steelers next week
no shame in losing to eventual SB champs, no shame at all.

The Cowboys fan that posted earlier (classy post BTW) brught up a good point regarding most of the “elite” teams of the AFC. Out of the Chargers, Colts, Jags, Pats and Steelers only the Steelers really looked to be firing on all cylinders.
Granted, if we don’t drastically improve our play it won’t matter how bad the Colts or Chargers play because we will be 5 – 11 and out of the playoff race by mid season but 4 out of the 5 “elite” teams played mediocre tawful football yesterday and one lost their QB for the year. Gives us som hope if we can turn it around
The only bad thing about Brady potentially being done for the season is that he won’t be there to beat the steelers.
Vince Young also appears hurt…but I am not sure if that hurts or helps Tennessee’s chances.
Brady out for year…. That may be the end for my fantasy team in the DBN league.
by kjc on Sep 8, 2008 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions
While it was a nice thing to say, it is far, far better to end strong (provided you don’t start so poorly that it doesn’t matter anymore), than to start strong.
Super Bowl XL wasn’t won by the best team in the NFL in 2005 (not saying they weren’t, just making a point), it was won by a team that had a strong tailwind and one hell of a roll in the playoffs. They are clearly firing on all cylinders, but only time and fate will tell whether that will translate into a late-season letdown or a dominant, season-long performance.
You guys have some holes to fill, but I can’t believe in a Cleveland team, no matter the roster, until Romeo is up and gone. He is a loser, and I mean that in the scoreboard way, not the smells like cheese way.
Guns don't kill people. Lamar Woodley kills people.
