Sproles, Ward and Fred Jackson seem to be the highlights on this list. This assuming Steven Jackson is tagged.
Sproles can block – Harrison cannot; (some might ask why sign another Harrison) I doubt Sproles can be an every down back, but who can? It seems the game is rougher with each season and we can count the number starting RB’s on ONE HAND who can endure a full season.
Fred Jackson looked good in his limited role behind (the overrated) Lynch. Due to his “restricted” tag I assume we stay clear of him based on our squandering of draft picks in recent past.

Agreed
The only guys that seem to be better than what we have is Sproles or Fred Jackson. But, for the price, are they going to be worth it? I doubt it. I wouldn’t mind seeing another year of Lewis/Wright/Harrison and addressing RB in the draft.

I don’t think the Chargers will let Sproles go. Tomlinson is looking old and is injury prone. Same goes for Steven Jackson.
Our best bet is to get one of Ward or Brandon Jacobs whoever the Giants let go
We need to cut Jamal Lewis

i like the idea of ward. guy’s fast, big, has good enough hands. i didn’t realize he’s already 28, but he’s only carried the ball 342 times in his career (less than tomlinson did in 2006 alone). he could be like a larry johnson in that he’s a little more advanced in age, but still has mileage on his tires due to a minimal amount of carries. plus, he likely comes cheap-ish.

Maybe if a vet comes along at the right price we should pick him up, but guys like S. Jackson, Sproles, and Jacobs (who would probably make an impact) likely will be overpaid, not to mention aging.

I don’t think Jacobs is a good fit. He’s taken a ton of hits with the Giants, and his style is not conducive to a long career.

Not that this is what I would want, but I would expect a veteran signing like Rhodes or Pittman to backup Jamal. None of the “high” priced guys are going to come here this year.

It is entirely too soon to say that. The new regime is going to make their mark on the salary cap for sure. We do not know how much money they will have to offer.

Agree. Let’s see what we have after the roster purge. Think Bill Parcells with the Miami Dolphins

I would be shocked if the Giants let either one of them go, but I would go after Ward and Jackson. Jackson is a good reciever out of the backfield.

They can’t afford to keep both. There was an interview before Sundays game that was interesting, where both Ward and Jacobs implied that they would be gone. Ahmad Bradshaw was openly pleased about their impending departures

If that is the case, Ward would be a good addition

Ward will be somewhere else next year. The Giants seem to be intent on not letting Jacobs go anywhere. Ward is a very nice player but he is 28 already. Granted he is a “young” 28 only having 342 carries in his brief NFL career, but 28 is 2 two years awat from the RB production cliff.
I am a huge opponent of signing other teams older RB’s. I am having a hard time thinking of a RB going somewhere else and having success for a couple of years. Maybe Ricky Waters, Curtis Martin and Charlie Garner are the only ones I can think of.
I would rather the Browns find our own Derrick Ward in the draft. RB’s are there late, we just need to find them. Easier said than done, yes, but it seems every year cheap RB’s make an impact in the playoffs every year. Save the money and draft James Davis in the fourth round.

Good call, I forgot Holmes. I guess Marshall Faulk could be added to the list.

So the point is, it’s not outside the realm of possibility. I don’t think Derrick Ward is the next Priest Holmes or Michael Turner, but he could be a solid contributor until we find the right kid in the draft.

and most importantly: Michael Turner

Buckhalter
I like Buckhalter. I think he would be good experience guy to have here. He can catch and run as well.
