Browns to interview Eagles GM Heckert
Last week we reported that Tom Heckert was emerging as a possible candidate for a few jobs around the NFL, but his interest in some(cough Detroit) was very low. However it seems that he thinks Cleveland is more attractive than Detroit....
CLEVELAND -- Their coaching search on hold and seemingly locked on Eric Mangini, the Cleveland Browns plan to interview Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert for their GM opening.
The meeting between Browns owner Randy Lerner and Heckert, who has been with the Eagles since 2001, has not yet been scheduled. The Eagles are getting ready for Sunday's playoff game against the New York Giants, but it is not known if Lerner will sit down with Heckert before or after the game.
Heckert has been the Eagles' GM since 2006 after originally joining the team as the director of player personnel. In May, he received a contract extension through 2011. Last year, he interviewed for Atlanta's GM job, a position that went to Thomas Dimitroff.
Since Heckert does not have final say in personnel matters, he is allowed to interview for other GM jobs that would give him greater power.

If we don’t get Pioli, this guy seems like a good second choice. He’s been with the Eagles for most of this decade and they’ve put some good teams together. Hopefully he’s learned a thing or two while he was there. The article from the PD yesterday, which I posted on here earlier, said he has a relationship with Spagnuolo and might want him as head coach, which I’d support.

I’m recklessly cool with it. As long as he’s allowed to hire his own coach.
He gets points for the butt chin.

Comments on Bleeding Green Nation indicate they’re pretty happy in Philly with the personnel decisions that have been made. That makes sense given their continued success.

Heckert
As an Eagles fan, I think you’d be getting a good guy. I don’t want to see him go because I’m not sure who’ll replace him. Even if he didn’t have final say on personnel, there is a lot of young talent on our team and Heckert had to have had a big hand in that. So I think if he comes here he’ll do well. Good luck to you guys.

So a Kokinis hiring is inevitable, right?

seems that way…this feels like a direct repudiation of mangini, at least as far as heckert is concerned. why in the world wouldn’t you at least interview for an open GM position?

The Atlanta guy withdrew from consideration also. I don’t think its so much that these guys don’t like Mangini as it is they wanted to be part of the decision. Can you blame them?
Unfortunately, it looks like we are stuck with Kokinis or Savage’s guy that is already on the Browns.
I’m coming to terms with Mangini as a coach (concerns about his defensive system notwithstanding), but it drives me crazy how mismanaged this whole process has gone.
