How Did James Davis Get Injured?
" Two witnesses to the incident from within the Browns organization said Davis injured his shoulder in a post-practice drill in which he was not wearing pads and the linebacker that plowed into him was. Three other NFL sources corroborated the witnesses' account."

Wow. More questions arise about Mangini if this is true...

Peter King (my favorite) mentioned he will be writing about the Browns and this incident in his Tuesday column. I am curious what he has to say.
Your favorite???
I saw him tease the story, too. I don’t care for his writing and opinions, but King has remarkable access to players and coaches. I don’t know what to expect from the story. It’s hard to find much fault with the trades.

Wasn’t there a similar story a few years ago about Ted Johnson being forced to practice by Belichick even though he was still suffering from a concussion?
For a team that might have bent the rules for safe practices, the Browns seemed to get to this point in the season with very few major injuries… Just sayin’.

For what it’s worth, Mangini commented on the situation:
“If something like that happened, it would never be something sanctioned by the team. I talked to the league about it and the last thing we want to do is put somebody in position to get hurt. I feel good about our position."
We have quite a few strange injuries in our history since 1999: penalty flag in an eye; stepping on a football on the first play in TC; running without shoes and getting stepped on with cleats. The list goes on.
So far, this seems like a non-story except for the fact that it is the Browns and Mangini. He has attracted a lot of “non-stories” in the media (painting the mural, the $1,700 bottle of water, and now this). The only story that really matters to me is that the team is 1-4 and looked rather pathetic in the first 3 games, but has performed well in the past two weeks. (Yes- I am in the camp that a win is a win no matter the score – and reflects some type of positive performance).

Disagree. This is a story.
If James Davis got hurt doing a stupid ass stunt at the orders of a coach, then there is going to be huge implications to this story.
Disclaimer: I am not saying this is Mangini’s fault. We have a lot more to find out.

Sure, right now the story is that Davis got injured doing a stupid ass stunt. That is newsworthy. However, I did not see anything in the article above or the articles yesterday that the stunt was “at a coach’s order” – that is what I am referring to as a non-story, just like the overblown story of the $1,700 waterbottle.
Pretty soon we are going to need a special link on Snopes to deal with all of Mangini’s urban legends, as they are turning out to be.
