Bernie Kosar says Brady Quinn could use a fresh start

“In my first action as consultant to the Cleveland Browns, I’d like to announce that the disenfranchised QB would be better off on another team, even though I have no authority to make such a move and that it does not make the team writing my new, much-needed paychecks any better.”
On a related note, assuming the surprising yet not-really-shocking occurs and Quinn is traded today. Which was a worse jersey purchase, Tim Couch or Brady Quinn?

At this very moment? Couch. But let’s wait for BQ’s final disposition before we make any permanent judgments.

My friend bought me a Quinn jersey for 10 dollars at some discount in NYC. I feel bad for him burning 10 dollars on it.

I think this says more about Bernie Kosar than it does about Brady Quinn. I have visions of them changing the locks over in Berea and Kosar walking around with his key ring trying to open his office door. I can’t imagine that this kind of statement is going to sit well with coach Mangini.
I’m uncomfortable with the whole consultant role for Kosar. I think he knows a lot about football and he might be useful as a QB trainer (helping with reads for example) but on the surface it seems like a vote of no-confidence from Lerner.

Yet we still get people posting every day that the Browns need to hire Bernie as QB coach or offensive coordinator or something like that. When will people learn that hiring Browns players and coaches from the 80’s isn’t going to magically make this team good again.

Maybe grinding up Bernie’s brain and feed it to DA and BQ would help.

I didn’t post this because I thought Kosar had some magical authority. I posted it because I’m fairly certain that the team upon hiring him would have either coached him on what not to say if this topic was brought up or advised him to try and avoid it.
Like I said in an earlier thread. I don’t think any words or actions done by the team under Mangini are wasted and they all have serve a purpose in some way to progress his vision.
Oh well, guess that’s just me. Back to your morning coffee, nothing to see here.

I thought this was interesting reading. Bernie’s quotes here do have an slight air of “loose cannon” about them to me. It’ll be interesting if he keeps this up or settles down.

Kosar knows more about the x’s and o’s than Mangini will know the day he retires. It’s important that among the 1700 people who report to Lerner, at least one of them has the balls to call out Mangini for abandoning a possibly serviceable qb prematurely.

Yes, because a team already surrounded by (admittedly unsourced) gossip about player revolts needs yet another dissenting opinion out there from a member of the organization.
Seriously, I have no problem with what he said at all, but why say it to the press? Can’t Bernie keep perspectives like this in-house, where they can actually do something besides give the media more possible controversies to manufacture about the Browns?

He knows his remark would never see the light of day, once the corporate culture massaged it to the point of “BQ could get another opportunity here, but he needs to be patient”.

I hope not. If Bernie knows the internal situation is that hopeless, he must truly be in this for nothing but the dollars. If that’s true, he should learn to keep his mouth shut, take the paychecks, and keep smiling all the way to his debt collectors.

Lerner couldn’t buy off Kosar’s dedication to Browns fans. If you hadn’t noticed, there’s a very strong connection there. As much of a douche that Kosar has been to everyone else, he maintains a standard in this relationship.
