The hard-luck life of a Browns fan
Appears on ESPN's page 2. Good writeup, not much "new" angle but entertaining to read and nice to see it appear on a national platform. My favorite excerpts:
9. I love being from an underdog, disrespected city like Cleveland -- especially compared to the other AFC North locales. Consider what we're up against:
Pittsburgh: America's crotch. Literally one of the worst cities on the planet. Full of toothless mountain people. Looks from above as if someone decided, "You know what I'm going to do? Cut out a huge chunk of one of the worst sections of Eastern Europe and drop it in the middle of Pennsylvanian Appalachia." At the end of the day, the Cleveland Browns suck, but at least we're not from Pittsburgh.
Baltimore: A city of hypocrites and degenerates. Cried (rightfully) for nearly a decade and a half, not just about losing the Colts, but about how they lost them … and then accepted another team stolen under eerily similar pretenses and jackassedly supported it with nary a peep. Hang your head in shame, Baltimore.

Pretty entertaining stuff, thanks for the link. Amused by Number 5 on this list, which nicely shows the author as a true fan with a truly strong opinion!

I can read the entry about Pittsburgh once a day for the next year, and laugh just as hard as I did the first time reading it.

“You know what I’m going to do? Cut out a huge chunk of one of the worst sections of Eastern Europe and drop it in the middle of Pennsylvanian Appalachia.”

Great Article
I grew up on the border of Steelers and Browns country. I loved Rod Woodson and that settled my allegiance when I was 13 (my mom hated football I had to sneak around her to watch).
Having lived on the border (14 years in E. Liverpool) or right in Browns country (6 years in Canton) I’ve had an incredible Love/Hate relationship with Browns fans.
My personal Highlights are listening to post game shows on Browns Radio when all the idiots in the world think trading everyone on your team is a feasible option, and after the 43-0 welcome back browns game my dorm room door getting kicked in and my roommate fighting three angry drunk Browns fans (I told him posting the Post-Gazzette Front page on our door blown up to poster size would be a bad idea, so I felt no need to bail him out of that beatdown).
I’ll say from first hand experience that the majority of Browns fans are not what you would call intelligent football fans (about an equal number of Steelers fans too, the ones who still want Big Ben benched esp.) but they are looked on worse than other fans because they are ridiculously passionate about their team. Stupid and loud get a lot of attention.
My B-i-L comes from a Browns family, he never watched football because his dad and uncles would get in fist fights during games arguing which Browns players sucked more. (I saw some myself and can’t blame the guy) You just don’t see that elsewhere.
But then Ohio is football country. High School, College, Pro, heck people get crazy over little league games. Too bad the Browns can’t get their management issues together and build a team that the fans deserve.
Sadly the part about toothless hillbillies in Pittsburgh is true. I love this city, but it is 3 minutes from hillbilly land and you can’t keep them all out. It’s not as bad as growing up in East Liverpool, but it’s still scary sometimes.
