Braylon Edwards traded to Jets
It was going to happen at some point. I just hope we got some value for him and not more Jets role players. It's unheard of for a player of Edward's caliber to be traded at this point of the season. I thought our offense looked bad already. I can't imagine what it's going to look like now without Braylon drawing double teams on most downs. Hopefully this new regime knows what its doing and this turns into a positive move towards the future.

Details are emerging regarding the consideration the Browns have received for receiver Braylon Edwards from the Jets.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN and Jay Glazer of FOX, the Browns get linebacker Jason Trusnick and draft picks.
Glazer reports that receiver Chansi Stucky is also part of the deal.
UPDATE: Glazer reports there are two draft picks; Schefter says they’re believed to be a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick.
Picks are good, but, Stuckey and Trusnick? I think we could have sone better than that…..

We already had a large fanshot on this but thank you for being observant and doing a fanpost anyways (sarcasm)

To be fair, fanposts are more visible that fanshots.

To be accurate, Fanposts are for things such as breaking news items, so I scroll down there since half of the Fanshots are inane ramblings to begin with.

Still, it doesn’t change the fact that the current layout makes fanshots more difficult to see. I came here first because this is what I saw first. Maybe I’m too used to other SB sites.
I just wanted to believe.

by the way, i flipped the two around. Fanshots are for links, fanposts are for discussion topics.

thanks for being snarky about it, but maybe you didn’t realize fanshots aren’t on the front page. In fact, i’ve been coming to this site for months now and didn’t even know what a fanshot was until this post.
by notthatnoise on Oct 7, 2009 9:55 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
they’re both on the front page, only Fanshots are further down the right-hand side. Chris should really look into changing the layout to put them on the left-hand side instead so that they’re near the top of the page. I think he looked into this in the past, but the news feed might not allow that.

It’s funny how the lesser known people are chewing me out for it but yet they have no clue what the use of a fanshot or post even is.

Good riddance. Braylon is a bum with incredible talent but without the focus to actually execute consistently. I watched him play at Michigan and while his speed and size made him very good, his sloppy routes and dropped passes kept him from being great. The 1st-round label in the NFL seems to have added to his focus problems while not helping to alleviate his ball-catching or route-running problems. I am glad he is gone.
by APV on Oct 7, 2009 9:27 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I am inclined to agree. I think there is little reason to believe that he would sign a long-term extension here, so even if we were to try and use the franchise tag, it would have been a short-term fix.

And don’t get me wrong, I fully expect him to join the Jets motivated and to put up big numbers the rest of the season. But I’m still glad he is out of Cleveland. I don’t think I could stomach another performance out of him like last week.

Stuckey has 11 rec for 120 yds and a td. that’s one more td than Braylon, and a few less yds.
Does this mean ‘Bron won’t go to New York?

I like this move. Taking decisive action in a situation like this is a good thing. One thing I’m not going to miss is the ball careening off his chest. I can’t believe how well he lived up to the reputation he had at Michigan of catching the hard ones and dropping the easy ones.
Note that Edwards may still get suspended over "the incident" from the other night. Does anyone know if he may be up for assault charges? I thought that punching someone in the face was against the law. That is one distraction we don’t need.
And don’t be so sure he’ll do well in New York… do you know how many bars and nightclubs there are in that town where Braylon can punch diminutive celebrities friends in the face?

Good move to get rid of Edwards, but this should have been done in the off season when there were supposedly deals to be had (I think the Giants wanted him).
Don’t expect Edwards to do much of anything in NY. He isn’t that great of a player. And to the author, when you say players of Edwards caliber, do you mean players with potential who have never lived up to expectations? Edwards had done next to nothing in the NFL. He had one decently good season in 2007 when he still led the league in drops. Trading a mediocre receiver isn’t a big deal. The Browns will be better for it.
by Cols714 on Oct 7, 2009 9:51 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
His numbers in 2007 were far better than you are giving him credit for.
by Roger Dorn on Oct 7, 2009 9:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s true, he had an amazing 2007. He just wasn’t getting the job done here, though, and we’re better off just making the trade.
I do find it strange that we traded to the Jets, though. It could be painful to watch Sanchez to Edwards light it up (should that happen), knowing full well they could both be wearing Brown and Orange.
by danvail on Oct 7, 2009 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He was better than “decently good” in 2007 and if you can’t admit that then you’re showing your bias. It doesn’t matter that he led the league in drops if he caught a ton of passes and TD’s. That’s like criticizing a baseball player for striking out too much when he has a high OBP and 40 homers.
We know that you don’t like Braylon Edwards. You don’t need to keep mentioning it every time something is posted about him.
by Buckeye Brad on Oct 7, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It Just Gets Uglier
I agree with those who called Edwards a gifted schmuck. Obviously, he’s more concerned with drama than performance. As far as any true Browns fan is concerned, he can suck it.
But that’s not what this is about. This about making a deal. It’s not about personalities. It’s strictly business.
And it is in the business of winning games where the uppity-ups consistently fail.
This is a bad trade. Plain and simple.

You allowed Rex Ryan to look even better now. Was this really because of that altercation with LeBron’s friend, or was he really not wanted in Clev? Damn…..rather have him stay in the AFC North than go make Rex Ryan look good.

Trusnik
Is supposed to be a good special teams player. If that is the case Cribbs can just return kicks and get involved more on offense. Free up your weapons.
"Do you want a bunch of duds walking around with their shoulders slumped and having no emotions, no feelings?" Bradley said. "I don’t think the fans want that. Stuckey won’t draw double teams the way that Edwards did. Massoquoi and Furrey and Robiskie are going to have to work that much harder for every catch they get.

The Browns now have 11 picks in the 2010 draft. This will either allow us to accumulate depth or use some of the extra picks to move up in the draft.

Going to say the obvious here….11 draft picks is a lot. There are infinite options there. Our 2010 Draft-Day thread should be rather epic.

Braylon Had To Go
Not because he was a royal size pain in the arse – which he was – but because he was a buzzkill on offense with his drops. The number of first downs, TDs, miscommunications was intolerable and destroyed all chemistry in the passing game.
My hunch is that the misery of this team destroyed his concentration, and the Jets may indeed have a steal of a deal under the Broadway lights – but here – he was a real downer.

Bad parts about this deal:
-If we really only got a 3rd and 5th, Stuckey and a ST player, we didn’t get anywhere close to enough.
-We have no #1 WR, which doesn’t make our passing game any better.
-We are really in rebuild mode.
-The whole Cleveland Jets thing is starting to weird me out.
Good parts about this deal:
-Braylon probably hated Cleveland.
-Braylon wasn’t playing well, hadn’t since the Giants game, and had been inconsistent at best since 07.
-He might be getting suspended, so we don’t have to deal with that.
-Draft picks.
-Maybe Robo and Momass get some more PT.
-He was in a contract year, so now it doesn’t look as bad if we don’t grossly overpay him as a FA.
by rufio on Oct 7, 2009 10:52 AM EDT reply actions 1 recs
I am hopeful that most everyone realized before this that we were rebuilding top to bottom. The impending free agency and my belief that he wanted nothing to do with Cleveland leads me to believe this was the right choice. Hopefully we didn’t leave anything on the table.

Here's a nice article on Jason Trusnik
"He knocks them on their (rear-end)," Westhoff said. "He’s just a tough guy. He hits real hard and it hurts."
Trusnik’s path from two-time Division 3 All-American to AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after a standout performance in the Jets’ Week 3 win over the Titans has been sprinkled with desire.

by golanbatrac on Oct 7, 2009 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Scratch that.
From RotoWorld:
Thanks to Lito Sheppard’s quad injury, the Jets won’t have to give the Eagles as much in the 2010 draft. Part of the trade was a conditional pick in 2010, which could have been as high as a second rounder. But one of the requirements was 85 percent playing time for Lito, which can’t happen now that he’s missed 2 1/2 games. Sheppard is questionable for this week’s Monday night game against the Dolphins. What a terrible trade. I knew it was coming but I was hoping it wouldn’t be with the freaking Jets. So to sum up our transactions with the Jets, we’ve given them their franchise QB and a probowl WR that requires a double team, for a 4th string QB, some backup LB’s, a young back-up quality safety, an average DE and a ST player? Also a 3 and 5 rounder which i’m sure we’ll make terrible use of. This is ridiculous
