Peter King Thinks Weiss has a Chance to End Up in Cleveland
I was listening to The Dan Patrick Show on the radio today and he was talking to Peter King. When asked if Charlie Weiss get fired at Notre Dame, could he come back and be an offensive coordinator in the NFL? King answered him with an absolutely. He mentioned he might be able to get picked up in New England. He has contacts in Miami, and maybe if Eric Mangini somehow keeps his job, he could be in Cleveland. With that being said, Daboll will probably not be here next year, no matter what happens. I think there is a legit chance we could land him as OC.
With that said, there will be some nay sayers about his tenure at ND, about how the team didn’t live up to the hype. Honestly, the Irish offense wasn’t that bad. And as an OC he can just focus on that, not Defense, Recruiting, Boosters, etc. Put him back in with just Xs and Os and I think he might still have what it takes in the NFL. But the bigger question remains, can an experienced offensive mind create something out of the Browns players?

He was a good coach offensively at ND and was good at New England. Why not? He defineatly will be better than who we got now.

no one could be worse than daboll. i’d take weiss over him.
if they decided to have brady start next year (unlikely), weiss could definitely play toward his strengths.

Agreed. That’s why I voted “yes”. Compared to now, anything would be an upgrade. At the very least, Weiss should be considered.
Though lots of things have to happen, like Weiss getting fired and Weiss wanting to take an OC job immediately. I think if he gets fired- and I think he will- that he will wait a season before getting back into the NFL world.

It doesn’t matter who we have at OC next season, QB is a question mark at best, we don’t have any proven running backs, and our WR’s are even more unproven. The only (relative) bright spot is our line which has some potential but it certainly isn’t elite. While I wouln’t be against Charlie Weiss, if you don’t have the players it doesn’t really matter. Just please don’t draft Jimmy Clausen.

With 11 picks and free agency we should be able to get a decent WR, decent RB (or see how Davis heals up), and someone to play RT for next season. We should even be able to find a decent TE.
With Heiden on IR now, I’m thinking the odds are slim of him playing meaningful football again, and I would not want Royal as the first option at that position, so TE has definitely moved up the list of needs to be filled.
Anyways, if the Browns are going to keep Quinn then Weiss would seem a good option at OC.

Man, Heiden on IR. That’s awful, and yes, I’d have to think that might be the last hurrah for him. Sad.

Yeah… Sad that he probably won’t be back in a Browns uniform… And said from the standpoint that now no one that will be on the field week to week can catch the ball. Suck.

And by not being back in a Browns uniform I mean he probably won’t be back as anything more than a backup. At this point he could probably hang up the cleats and call it quits without any shame.

Here’s to a great career filled with enthusiasm and coming to play every game 100%…hopin he comes back for one more hurrah

I mentioned this in the post-game thread but I’d be a huge fan of this. He’s a great play-caller.

I like Weiss. I would like Weiss as a Brown.

i was thinking this myself the other day, i would love to have someone with previous experience and success at the OC position.

Who wouldn’t?
Oh wait. Mangini.

I don’t believe in Santa Clausen nor the 4th Weiss-man. The only golden-domer I’d like to see on the Browns is one Golden Tate taken in the 2nd round IF we get that pick from the Jets which seems unlikely at this point.

First off, what about Clausen is bad?
Second, if Tate goes pro, I doubt he will be there in the second
by TheRealSlimShady on Nov 18, 2009 11:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’d estimate mid-second to high third for Golden Tate.

Yah, TRSS is a little biased with ND players.

Golden Tate might be the best receiver in college football this season. Now, that might not always translate in to the NFL, but he’s pretty good.

He reminds me of Anquan Boldin when he gets the ball in his hands.
He just gets north and south as quick as he can.
by Bernie19Kosar on Nov 19, 2009 1:59 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agree on the Boldin comparison, I was thinking of Boldin as I was watching Tate try and singlehandedly bring ND back against Navy.

I follow the draft and his stock has really been rising.
He has good hands and is a monster after the catch. He also is very versatile and can play x receiver, y receiver, slot receiver, running back, wilcat QB, kick returner, and he has even recovered an onside kick.
by TheRealSlimShady on Nov 19, 2009 5:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’d take Michael Floyd, but he won’t be eligible this year. He will be a better pro than Golden.

Any one is better than Daboll, but not a lot of people can do much of anything with the “talent” our offense has.

Brett Favre endorsed him, for whatever that’s worth…

But then he decided a couple weeks later to unendorse him.
And then, a few weeks later he decided to re-endorse him.

We need a head coach from the 80´s.
Some one who remembers football, from before Maddenization, Fantasization, and Rock Paper Scissors play calling. When linebackers weren´t victims of fantabulous defensive schemes, and receivers knew how to get open with something other than a fly pattern.
Lou Holtz.

Do you honestly think that NFL coaches are influenced by video games and fantasy football when they choose their players and call plays? Really??
Fans care about Madden and fantasy football, not GM’s and coaches. They just want to win games.
by Buckeye Brad on Nov 19, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Jones-Drew sure didn’t care about fantasy. IF the coaches cared about Madden or Fantasy football, the owners sure as hell don’t. They care about making money.

Have you actually listened to Lou Holtz recently? When I hear him on TV, I often wonder how he was ever so successful. I swear, the guy often makes no sense. Wait a second…… makes no sense = mooncamping = Lou Holtz.
Coincidence? I think not.

I disagree with this statement and would argue that Moon’s brain works harder than those of most of the posters here.
Now whether it works the way yours does or is trying to do the same things, that’s an entirely different question….

No. Making up facts and posting the same repeated nonsense does not involve much use of the brain.

As you wish. Neither does chasing Moon around and knocking everything he says, including those things that are obvious larks.

Right. Which is why I, and most peopler here, ignore most of what he says.

I hate to say it, but he´s 5-13 in the post season. You can drop a few games in regular season, but the playoffs count ten fold.

Nice stat, I feel like I just got owned.
by Roger Dorn on Nov 20, 2009 9:11 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
At this point, maybe we need to plan on winning regular season games rather than winning playoff games. If memory serves, we have a team that is just above .250 this season and last. We haven’t even been to the playoffs in years. I’d rather have a guy that has a bad playoff record than a guy that has no playoff record at all.
by shep615 on Nov 20, 2009 11:54 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
5-13. That means he got to the post season 13 times. That is the biggest takeaway from that stat.

weiss help
I do not think any one can help the Browns until Learner gets up enough guts to fire Mangini and crew. This new start has stalled dead, by Mangini This team needs a complete review and some one that can relate to the players, and know true talent at the same time. Cleveland has not had a front line to protect the runners or quarterbacks for years. The Browns did not need to bring the washed up reserve Jets to be the offense. Nothing is right with the team now, nothing is jelling, I think Mangini has lost the team, and the team is lost. Learner is waiting for something, perhaps to see how much of a write off the team can be this year, for tax relief. Only my opinion.
by lifeatford on Nov 21, 2009 12:42 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
almost all of the ex-jets are on the defense, which has performed decently well this year all things considered. cleveland has had a top tier O-line or at least average line for the last 3 years, that isn’t the main issue here. gelling is spelled with a “g.” i don’t think mangini has lost the team. Your opinion is not based in reality.
