The Recession Bowl
I won't hide it...I'm a Lions fan! <please read further>. Earlier this season the Lions played a game for bottom feeder supremacy in which they eventually added another loss to their record after dropping a game to a very beatable Rams team. Oh...and they did this at home. The game was appropriately named "The Toilet Bowl".
At one point...long before I existed...these were the two best teams in football. But it's been a long time since the dust has settled from the 2nd World War, and at least in the Lions case...supremacy has waned. What happened to these once respected...feared, franchises? At least in our case it was a four letter word...F.O.R.D.! Not an excuse...just a fact. Fortunately for us Detroiters (and/or Michiganders) we've had several of our other professional franchises achieve ultimate success. I honestly pity Cleveland...you guys deserve better.
I watched a game earlier this year at a local watering hole in which the Browns acheived victory over a Bills team in what I thought (at the time) could be the worst football game I've ever witnessed. Then came the Lions game against the Rams. Then there was the sorry excuse for a football game this past Monday night in which your beloved Cleveland Browns lost to your former beloved Cleveland Browns...errr...the Baltimore Ravens. Up until then I did not realize that the Browns are actually named after the excrement that they play like. I kid!
Seriously, those in glass houses should never throw stones...so from one God-Aweful franchise to another, please consider this more of a gentle lobbing of Tic-Tac sized pebbles. They announced this afternoon that the Lions vs. Browns game will be blacked out locally, as the Ford's failed to sell this game out by an abysmal 7,000 seats. Considering the proximity of Cleveland to Detroit, I gotta admit that I was suprised to learn we couldn't sell this upcoming debacle of a game out. Which leads me to believe that Browns fans are just as fed up (if not more so) as the Lions fans are with their respective franchises. In fact, I posted a question to Lions fans on Pride Of Detroit, and was suprised to know that while most Lions slappies are still confident the Lions will win...very few think it will be a blowout.
So with all that said...assuming the person responsible for the site didn't immediately delete this post after reading that I was a Lions fan. I pose the same question to you, Cleveland.

PS
This really wasn’t met as a cut on Cleveland…or the Browns. I actually take a trip to Cleveland a couple of times a year and enjoy the hell out of myself. You have a top notch Baseball Stadium in a phenomenal sports City and I hope a championship comes your way sooner than later…I just don’t want it to come at the expense of any of my Detroit teams.
Lots of luck this weekend…and Go Blue!

My prediction is that the Defenses will outscore the offenses, it’s gonna be a pick-6 fest
The sporting gods hate Cleveland, they give us false hopes, then yank it out from under us like a tablecloth.

It’s Stafford though. You’re basically guaranteed at least 2 picks.

Well I haven’t watched him all season. Is he as bad as DA? Ie bloody accurate throwing to opposition? Or is he just inaccurate in general?
Yes, he is that bad.

Calvin johnson is healthy now and will have a big game, but as the ultimate middle finger to Browns fans, Dennis Northcut will score the winning touchdown.
too bad they don’t still have leigh bodden or he could get burned for the winning touchdown

That is like the third “we suck but you are worse” post we’ve had this year. I think the Browns defense and special teams will be the difference makers here. I predict Browns 9 Lions 6. Read it an’ weep. But I wish you luck the rest of the season so we can get the higher pick. Yay?
Brownsyup
The length of the contract will span more than just the initial uncapped year. Unless the intent is to do away with the cap altogether, then we should not ignore it.
i’m no expert on how rookie contracts work, is it possible to front-load the contract for the first year or two?

You can structure a contract however you want, but usually the agent of the player will be seeking something very similar to the prior year’s pick with a larger total number of dollars and a bit more guaranteed money. It would be difficult to get the agent to accept anything much different than that.
We have the Bengals, Chiefs, Steelers, Jags, Raiders and chargers left on our schedule. Who do you think we will beat to drop down to fifth?

We can beat the Chiefs or Raiders on a good day. I’d say we will be underdogs heading into both games, but those are bottom tier teams.
Oakland beat the Bengals, Eagles and KC. They a defense that can shut QB’s down and their offense just may have a pulse with Gradkowski. KC just beat pittsburgh and has been able to score points against some of the better teams in the league unlike us, so from looking just at the matchups alone i would say we have no chance at another win this year. That would still put us in a fight against STL and Tampa Bay so we’d have at least a top 3 pick. But those teams have pretty tough schedules coming up so we do have the best chance at winning out of the three, but only of Quinn can so some of the success next week that he did against the league worst pass defense.

Like I said, I think we are underdogs the rest of the year, but neither team is a world beater. We took Cincy to overtime and it looks like they are going to win the AFC North. Our only win was against Buffalo who has I think 3 wins at this point.
Oakland’s D is pretty good, I agree, but if your justification for them being a good team is that they have a pulse now with Gradkowski (a guy we are at least a bit familiar with) then I am pretty sure it’s obvious that they are a beatable team if you play your best game.
KC is definitely beatable.
I think we win take at least two of our last 6 (Raiders and Chiefs are beatable, of course, and the Bengals and Jags are beatable). Of all of the lower tier teams this year, we have the most favorable schedule and hold the tiebreaker against the Bills.
The fifth pick won’t be as easy to get now that we lost to Detroit (I posted the above prediction prior to kickoff this week), but it’s still doable.

I know it was against the Lions...
…but your boy Quinn looked like a f’n Pro-Bowler out there, especially early on. Both teams still need a lot of work, but I look forward to the day that we’re playing eachother in the Super Bowl. Good luck nabbin Holmgren…at least he’ll be out of the NFC.

Thanks Mushy. I look forward to that game myself!
