Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals - Official Game Thread

Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals, Nov 29, 2009 1:00 PM EST

After last week's offensive breakout against the Detroit Lions, can Brady Quinn and company keep things going this week?

CLEVELAND BROWNS (1-9) WEEK 12 CINCINNATI BENGALS (7-3)
VS.
Date: November 29, 2009 Location: Cincinnati, OH
Time: 1:00 p.m. ET
Stadium: Paul Brown Stadium
TV: CBS
Favorite: Bengals by 14
Radio: WTAM, 1100 AM Over/Under: 37½
SBN Coverage: Cincy Jungle Announcers
Rich Gannon & Ian Eagle

Position-by-Position Breakdown

Pos Adv  Reason
QB - Brady Quinn showed some signs of life last week, but he'll need more consistency before he gets some credit.
RB - Cedric Benson, Larry Johnson, Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard? This team is well stacked at running back.
WR - Mohamed Massaquoi had his second good game of the season last week, but Chad Ochocinco has been great all season long.
OL - Both offensive lines have played well, but the Browns' line gets a bad reputation due to the team's 1-9 record.
DL - The line hasn't gotten to the quarterback since losing Antwan Odom, but they still contribute to the Bengals' solid run defense.
LB - The Browns' line continues to look good with David Bowens inside and Jason Trusnik outside, but the Bengals have the productivity and the youth.
DB - Cleveland is going to need another cornerback next year unless the rest of the defense drastically improve to compensate.
ST - Go Joshua Cribbs!

The Browns took the Bengals down to the final seconds of overtime the last time these two teams met, although the game would've been over sooner had Shaun Rogers not blocked Shayne Graham's extra point (after blocking a kick of his earlier too). The Browns won't experience the same fortune this time. The Bengals have a good defense, but if the Browns attempt to take shots down the field like they did last week, the field will be more open for Quinn to keep the Browns in the game long enough.

FINAL PREDICTION: Cincinnati Bengals 24, Cleveland Browns 14.
CHRIS' RECORD IN PICKING BROWNS GAMES: 8-2
CHRIS' OVERALL NFL PREDICTIONS RECORD: 116-47

This is the official gameday thread for the Cleveland Browns in Week 12 as they battle the Cincinnati Bengals. All comments regarding the game should be posted in this thread. Enjoy the game, and GO BROWNS!!!

BROWNS GAMEDAY INACTIVES

Browns declared TE Robert Royal, WR Brian Robiskie, QB Brett Ratliff, DB Coye Francies, DB Gerard Lawson, LB David Veikune, LB Marcus Benard, and OG Billy Yates inactive for Week 12 against the Bengals.

Notes:
-Jerome Harrison is back to being active.
-You’re right; Matt Roth is active, as is Alex Hall.
-No RoBo again. Big waste of a rookie season in terms of experience for him.

by franklinbrownie41 on Nov 29, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions

Most of the third down runs to Cribbs have worked in a situation like that, a juke to the inside as opposed to a head dive into the crowd probably would’ve gotten just enough yardage.

the defense is containing palmer. he only has like 30 yards passing. offense needs to step it up.

I am tired of Lewis getting carries and gaining 2-3 yards every time.

same.

and why not have robo in?

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

BQ’s doing fine. The receivers, well….

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

i guess that is slight improvement.

surprisingly, BQ is having a better game than palmer.

palmer: 4/10, 21 yards
quinn: 3/8, 32 yards

I don’t get the Panthers coaching. They keep letting Delhomme throw deep against Revis, instead of running with two of the best backs in the league. They should be fired for that alone, worse than Daboll.

So I didn’t see the game last week. Is Detroit’s defense really that bad? Did lightning strike the stadium to get our offense started? What I’m seeing this week is the same old garbage I’ve seen all year…

by Roger Dorn on Nov 29, 2009 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

somehow quinn has 10 fantasy points.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions

Rogers leaving on the cart.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions

Knee or ankle on a bad looking leg whip.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

Ah, crap. He’s sitting up at least.

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

And crying. He’s hurt.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

Wow – just when you thought things couldn’t get any uglier, down goes Shaun Rogers.

"Nobody ever thinks, 'Hey, maybe I’m actually an idiot.'" - Jay

by woodsmeister on Nov 29, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions

Neat! Now Rogers is hurt. What else can happen?

Just move all three Cleveland teams and save us all the constant pain and frustration

by mgtbfb on Nov 29, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions

Move the Tribe and Cavs if you like, but leave the Browns.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting stats:

Trusnick – 8 tackles, 2 assisted tackles
Roth – 3 tackles, 2 assisted tackles and 1 sack

by Roger Dorn on Nov 29, 2009 3:54 PM EST reply actions

Trusnick has been a nice suprise

by mgtbfb on Nov 29, 2009 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

Two good looking gentlemen so far. Bright spots.

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

that braylon trade keeps looking better and better

by notthatnoise on Nov 29, 2009 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

the only two i can think of.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

we need a tight end that has hands attached to his arms

by notthatnoise on Nov 29, 2009 3:56 PM EST reply actions

I agree. This coming draft has a few TE’s that I think we should definitely look into picking up.

by jharbdo on Nov 29, 2009 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

Quinn looks so much better outside of the pocket.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 3:57 PM EST reply actions

Seriously, I’d be willing to bet that no team in the history of organized football has ever had as many drops as we have had over the past few years.

by mgtbfb on Nov 29, 2009 3:57 PM EST reply actions

Braylon got his 2nd W of the season. 3 catches 40 yards final line.

by Roger Dorn on Nov 29, 2009 4:00 PM EST reply actions

He’ll always still be a big L to me.

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 4:01 PM EST up reply actions

Pathetic, just pathetic. We have a 3 or 4 year rebuilding project ahead of us. Unfortunately, by the time we get it together on offense the ew good players we do have will either be ready to retire or refuse to re-sign here.

by mgtbfb on Nov 29, 2009 4:02 PM EST reply actions

IF we successfully rebuild, why wouldn’t they want to re-sign?

by Roger Dorn on Nov 29, 2009 4:03 PM EST up reply actions

Just showing some progress and an upward arc would help.

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

We’re one year into a three year rebuild. Not a big deal, so long as we get it right.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

get ready for a screen pass

by notthatnoise on Nov 29, 2009 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Double digit losses again.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 4:06 PM EST reply actions

after that aberration last week, looks like we’re back to having a decent defense and a historically bad offense

by notthatnoise on Nov 29, 2009 4:08 PM EST reply actions

That’s true, when the offense can’t hold the ball for more than 1/3 of the game, you can never really assess if the D has any potential. It’;s not great, it’s not game winning, but it might just be serviceable.

by LondonBrown on Nov 29, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

wow, quinn reached 100 yards passing?

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:12 PM EST reply actions

somehow he finished with 12 points.

…yeah i’ll admit he’s on my fantasy team. i dropped sanchez for him.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

I salute your courage – and wish it had been rewarded.

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

haha. i didn’t start him though, obviously. i have aaron rodgers.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

oh, matt leinart is starting.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:12 PM EST reply actions

sadly quinn will be facing another tough defense next week. SD is 11th in the pass, but 21st in the rush.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:17 PM EST reply actions

being at home may help?

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

they haven’t won at home since October 13th of 2008.

by johnnyphoenix on Nov 29, 2009 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

Jamaal should be good for at least two, two-and-a-half yards per carry against a bottom half rushing defense.

by golanbatrac on Nov 29, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

yesss roddy white got a TD with 23 seconds left.

by emily522 on Nov 29, 2009 4:19 PM EST reply actions

Quinn’s rating this week: 51.3.

by RelapsingDawgCatcher on Nov 29, 2009 4:26 PM EST reply actions

…but no turnovers! ;)

eventually i’m going to post a fanpost about what positions we need to draft and in what rounds of the draft. i just don’t have time to do it today.
