Second Thing to Be Settled After GM Fiasco
Put some damn stripes on those brown pants.
Let me tell you a little bit about my uniform ideals. Our home jerseys are great. They honestly can't get better. Congratulations Browns, it's the only consistency we really ever had in the last 10 years.
Now as for the away, I was an all white man. I saw the orange pants of the 90s. Atrocious. Yes, they were our identity but they were pretty bad. When we went all white I thought it was a great transition and also the only transition that seemed to work. Then I saw the brown pants in the preseason last year and I prayed they were never made mandatory.
Then this year happened. We made brown pants mandatory for away. I was disappointed and they really didn't seem to work. But they grew on me amazingly. Then I started liking them and disagreed with Kwoog; they needed stripes and they'd be perfect, as shown in this artist's rendition: (Thank you Paint.)
I hope you all agree. Here is living proof that stripes would complete this now great away jersey. Please Lerner, get mad about plain pants also.

I agree. Stripe changes this outfit from ugly to awesome. Just curious, but did you get this from Uni Watch or come up with the idea on your own? I’ve seen several suggestions on that blog about making this change.

Kwoog brought it to my attention but the picture and color scheme are of my own design.

Cool. Not accusing you or anything, just to be clear. Just wondering. Do you ever read Uni Watch? Great blog, if you’re into uniform stuff.

Agree. It has the coolest takes on unis.

(embarrassed face) I actually like the all brown with no stripes… but majority rules is fine by me. I’m also very intrigued by an all brown ensemble, and I still dig the all whites.
Basically, we should have 4 outfits, two each for home and road. All brown and brown top, white bottom for home, and all white, brown bottom white top for road. Stripes or not, like I said, democracy rules.

Well thought out. I guess you influenced me for stripes with you being against them. I knew you influenced me somehow.

I wan’t all Brown uniforms (no stripes) when we play away games in which the home time wears white. (i.e. Cowboys)
All brown uniforms would be incredibly awesome.

I agree. But I’d still like stripes. We have more then one color my friend. We must flaunt them.
by SpecialBrownie on Nov 4, 2009 12:09 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m willing to compromise on the stripes on brown pants if it means the go with brown jerseys as well.
by Simmsinns on Nov 4, 2009 12:21 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m really curious about how that would look. If we tried those god-awful orange jerseys once upon a time then we can try brown on brown.

i’d have to see it in live action to be sure what i think of it. at first glance, i’d say no.

Awesome. About as intimidating as a uniform can be. Good work by the way, SB.

I am a big fan of the all white. I grew up idolizing Kosar, Mack, Slaughter, Metcalf. So it is in my blood to want to be reminded of those days. But without Modell.

I was thinking that if the Browns end up 1-14 that for the last game everyone (including the coaches) be forced to wear orange tutus. Could this possibly be a motivational factor?

If you have the leg stripe then remove the sock and shoulder stripes. They look too much like Bengals wear anyway.

I like the all white uni’s, but I do like the orange pants from the 70’s and early 80’s. The orange pants remind me of the “Cardiac Kids”!!

I miss the orange pants with the brown tops (am picturing Clay Matthews in that right now).

The orange pants and white top doesn’t work for me.
by talonk on Nov 4, 2009 12:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I miss people who play like Clay Matthews. If they bring that skill set, I couldn’t care less what uni they wear. Also: it’s actually a better picture of #22 – Hanford Dixon, if I recall correctly.
by drjeo on Nov 4, 2009 3:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
true, that is Dixon, but foiund this in the google images of Clay … it showed the uniform in its entirety, so I went with it.
by talonk on Nov 4, 2009 3:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I thought Dixon wore #29?
Oooops
I’ll get me jacket…
by LondonBrown on Nov 5, 2009 2:26 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Hmmm, you are right, that isn’t Dixon. I shouldn’t have trusted drjeo
If I had to hazard a guess, that is Clarence R. Scott and Matthews ganging up on Joe Cribbs from a 1981 game in Buffalo.
by talonk on Nov 5, 2009 6:56 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes! That color scheme was cool!! For home games, all white for away is good. Hanford Dixon was #29, #22 was Clarence Scott

If he doesn’t, I suggest a protest at the second half kickoff of the upcoming Monday night game. Said protest will involve all the fans in attendance disrobing. We’ll call it the “Pink Out”.
And you thought the half empty stadium was terrifying….

At the beginning of the year Mangini or someone said that the advantage of the brown pants is that they do not have a stripe. The stripe is made of a separate piece of fabric or different fabric and makes the pants more restrictive.
They said these brown pants with no stripes help the players move better. I think they just fall off better. The players always seem in danger of losing their pants.
by JB-Cleve on Nov 4, 2009 2:39 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That seems kind of ridiculous. Would it really be that hard to sow it over the top?
by gahnki on Nov 4, 2009 4:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
This makes a little bit of sense. When I played HSF, we had sort of a Bengals stripe down our pants and that limited my ability to turn my hips.
by SpecialBrownie on Nov 4, 2009 4:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It may not adhere to some sort of fabrics, along to repainting helmets for the next game you have to paint pants now too, it may run in the wash…
There are problems that surface with that.

it all comes down to aerodynamics and the ubulus which connects to the upper dorsimus. Its boring, but its part of my life.

Really?
Maybe the Browns should switch to all cotton uniforms so the players feel more comfotable.

Ha, MAC rivalry, I presume? I root for all the Ohio MAC schools pretty equally. I have friends and family that went to all of them. I especially like OU and BG though.
Also, Freddy Barnes is amazing

I want the stripe down the pants. I would prefer all white, but brown with a stripe would be ok. Also, there must be stripes on the socks.
I also think the sleeves on today’s jerseys are stupid. They should have stripes going all the way around.
Basically I want this:

by Ryan Kelsey on Nov 4, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
Well of course. With today’s color schemes and the old day pattern, it makes the ideal jersey.

YES. Back to the 80s all white. Perfect.

The AL needs to be removed from the sleeve stripes while we’re at it.

Randy’s father was too involved with the move for my taste.
It reminds me of him every time I put on my Quinn (replica) jersey.

Remove the AL
on the basis that Modell signed the Baltimore papers on Al Lerner’s private jet (true story). Lerner helped Modell moved the team for God’s sake! Why does no one ever mention this?!!?!??!?!!!

I’ve been saying the brown pants need stripes since they were brought out in the 2008 preseason.

So, you’re not trendy, sorry.

Get rid of the brown pants. I think there is a direct correlation between the amount of brown on the uni’s and the quality of play (something else that reminds me of the color brown).

Time to take the Browns to the Super Bowl.

I don’t care what they wear, so long as they leave the helmet as is.
by golanbatrac on Nov 6, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i’ll second that. our helmets don’t need a logo. that would detract from the charm of what being a Brown is all about.
well, i guess i’d make an exception for a bone that looks like it was drawn by a 4 yr. old…

I’m a big fan of the orange pants and white jersey (yes, seriously).
I’d also say that I understand the idea behind not having a stripe made of different fabric… I played in HS with pants that had stripes and pants that didn’t, and there is a little bit of restriction of movement with a stripe. But it’s not a HUGE difference, I think our professional athletes can handle just a bit of resistance from a stripe :-)
Personally, I don’t like the all brown idea… We’d just look like a bunch of turds with limbs and an orange helmet.
