Just sounds like another way of saying, “we are negotiating a buyout of the contract. We are in a position that gives us some leverage (though we prefer not to resort to that)”.

Agreed. Most of the media statement on this seem heavily shaded with legal considerations, which is a real shame for those of us trying to figure out what the actual situation is. The quotes that are more forthright are attributed to ‘league sources’ which of course means that everything they say has to be taken very lightly.
Very frustrating if you’re trying to unravel the mystery from the outside….
