An SF Bay Area Sports fan commiserates
What's up DBN faithful? The guy here, to let you Browns fans know that you are not alone. As a Golden State Warriors fan, I feel we have a lot in common. Both fan bases continue to support their horrifically run franchises to a fault. Both teams are still selling out games despite the sub-par product that is put on the field of play. I suppose that is part of the problem, that the powers that be have no reason to change what they are doing, because they are still making money hand over fist despite the quality of the teams they field. Because of that, I'm here to ask you rabid Browns fans for your blessing to adopt the Browns as my secondary NFL team, after my hometown 49ers.
I'm becoming a Browns fan for a few reasons. First, I'm obviously a masochist. What kind of person would WANT to support the Cleveland Browns and the Golden State Warriors? I'm just asking to be consistently disappointed. But I hate front-runners and bandwagoners, so part of me likes to make a point to do the opposite. I get on the bandwagon of teams that can't possibly do any worse. I'll put it this way: When I first became a fan of the Warriors, their starting lineup included Vonteego Cummings, Jason Caffey, and Donyell Marshall. Marshall was their best player. I'm not kidding. Haven't heard of the other two guys? I'm not surprised. But to support that awfulness until that one, sweet moment (in this case, a first round upset of the Dallas Mavericks) is so much more satisfying than taking the easy route and becoming a Patriots, Yankees, or Lakers fan.
The Browns also just have a bunch of players that I would be a fan of regardless of what team they were on. Joe Thomas is one of the best lineman in the NFL. He is a guy you can build a franchise around. Shaun Rogers is a great NT. Kamerion Wimbley has all the tools to be a dominant LB in the league. Joshua Cribbs is just AWESOME. And I don't think there is a player I have ever felt worse for than . Leads the NFL in tackles on a tiny salary, and instead of doing the usual "pay me what I'm worth" holdout, he basically says "I'm just going to show up, do my job at a very high level, play out my contract, and then get my money." Unfortunately, he sustains a season-ending injury, and probably won't get paid like the Pro-Bowl caliber player he is. He's like the poster-boy for why players SHOULD hold out. Browns' management seems like they could give a crap less about their players. Jackson should have been determined to get his. If a franchise won't look out for one of it's best players, that player should look out for himself. I don't want to get too much into this because it is being discussed elsewhere on this site extensively, but Mangini is a completely selfish jerk, despite having done nothing to earn it, so I don't think anyone would have faulted Jackson, a proven stud, for looking out for himself.
So, in conclusion, I like Browns fans and I like Browns players, and I think the FO is deplorable, especially Mangini. So what do you say? Am I a Dawg by Nature?

Permission granted. You also have my permission to stick knitting needles in your eyes if you are so inclined. That’s a joke.

Welcome, come on in the waters great. Just don’t drink the kool-aid, cuz then the Browns will be your number 1 team and you’ll start to see that Mangini isn’t all that crazy. Maybe a little method to the maddness. :)

Dear Editor
I appreciate you adding in the links, but you forgot to put D’Qwell Jackson’s name back in.
Don't worry about me Thurgood, I'll be fine. The robbery is what's important now.

Remember, if you want to be a DBN, no subject lines. They’re cumbersome and un-needed.
Also, you can go back and edit your own post.

Sounds good. Might be a hard habit to break, but I’ll get it.

Nobody added the links; the website does that automatically when you post it. And, as SB said, you can edit your own post at any time.

Yeah, welcome.
I’m not the biggest fan of split-allegiances within one league. But I do have a soft spot for some other teams. Namely, the Packers and Bills in the NFL. I followed them a little during the Browns’ “inactive” years. Gotta love cold whether cities with passionate fan bases. And I think I remember an unofficial “Browns Fan Appreciation Day” in Buffalo in 96 or 97.

Buffalo might be cold but a Superbowl wouldn’t mean nearly as much to them as it would to us or GB.

I’d say nothing could come close to what a title would mean for Cleveland. But Buffalo has to be pretty close. What makes you say this?

I’ve heard it used before and also I feel our fans are much more devoted. At least they’ve tasted the Bowl. 4 times!

I am a Browns fan first and 49ers fan second (a very distant second).
Welcome.
Also, Mangini doesn’t seem like a completely selfish jerk to me. He might not be a great head coach (I think he at least needs more time here before we can tell) but he seems like he is really trying to build the franchise the right way. Whether or not he can do that is a different story.
Also, I don’t think Jackson should not have held out this year. I believe the Browns will still pay him what he is worth, which is not pro bowl money but slightly less. People around the league know what kind of player Jackson is and his market value will be solid if he does indeed make it to free agency. Mangini will certainly do what he can to hang on to Jackson, as he was one of two people on Mangini’s “untradeable” list.
