Am I Crazy or do you think we have a shot at beating the Steelers Thurs Night?
Call me Crazy but I really think we could pull this one out... And for the first time since week 4 I am excited to go watch a game at the stadium.
Wow!! how sweet would that be? Nice cold snowy night were we finally get a win over our arch rivals and also eliminating them from the playoffs? This would salvage some of the season for myself personally.
They say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.....

I’m also excited, but I am scared that the Steelers will eat our lunch. They’ve just came off 2 defeats to the Chiefs and the Raiders, I’d be pissed too. I’m anticipating seeing an angry Pittsburgh team on Thursday.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be cheering just as hard as anyone come Thursday night, but the pessimism that comes from being a Browns fan tells me that we lose 33-14.

agreed. it could be possible, but i feel like an angry pittsburgh team is too tough of a match for us.

i would tend to agree with all of this, but you would have thought oakland would get crushed seeing as pittsburgh was coming off the loss to kc, and we know how that turned out.

What kind of...
LSD-induced dream are YOU having? They barely have a semblance of defense, filled with injuries, neither QB has a season rating worth a damn, they don’t run effectively, and every player on that field seems so beaten they don’t even perform to their expectation in any way. They have a coach who cares more about practice than the friggin game, who cares more about his “system” than how it works with the players he has. The entire team is a player’s nightmare! Cribbs is the only player I would pick from them to do ANYTHING for a real team other than ball boy or maybe let them be part of the “chain gang”… though with their complete lack of focus that might get them fired mid-game.. Bottom line is Pittsburgh is suffering, but they’re not DEAD like this team is.

The Steelers just got beat by our 4th string QB from last year.
One baseball game, he came to the plate and heard a woman in the crowd shout to the pitcher, "I'll make you a chocolate cake if you strike out that 'so-and-so'!" Says Strong: "I hit that ball out of the park. Then I looked at her like, 'Do I get a cake now?' "

i feel like this should silence any further discussion here. he was the BROWNS 4th string quarterback. do you realize how bad you have to be to be that far down the depth chart here?
by notthatnoise on Dec 7, 2009 7:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
that was a money deal dumbass
you paid Anderson all that money and drafted Quinn, the Browns aren’t even dumb enough to put that kind of money below a FA back up QB. Gradkowski is 2-1 as a starter on a decent team, he might end up being in the league longer than Quinn or Anderson.

Gradkowski was terrible with the Browns last year. Terrible. That’s why he wasn’t brought back to Cleveland.
And no name-calling, please.

You sure it was not the other way around? Gradkowski seems to be doing a lot better now that he is off the Browns and not vice versa.

lets put it this way, he had a single digit QB rating. even DA could manage to bring it over 10.

That is all very nice and all, but he is winning games right now. Neither Quinn or Anderson seems to be doing that.

Dude. You’re wall of shame makes fun of you, you know that right?
1. I’m so glad we play you guys twice and not a potent Tenn Offense.
2. Kyle Orton trumps Ben like crazy. He trumped him as a Bear too.
by SpecialBrownie on Dec 8, 2009 9:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well, it makes fun of the Pittsburgh Steelers, my team. Not me. And I am quite aware of that, considering I made it.
1. You have not beaten the Steelers in 12 straight contests. Our offense has scored more points and racked up more points than the Titans this year. Oh yeah, and we beat them. Not to add their defense is ranked 27th and ours is 5th. You have no argument here.
2. I know in your completely crazy Browns world that might be true, but in reality it is not. Ben has a better QB rating, more TDs, a better comp %, more yards, and knows how to throw a long ball. You also have no argument here.

I’m excited. Both teams have a lot riding on this. Obviously Pittsburgh more than us but a win on Thursday could do a lot for this damaged browns team. I hope most of the browns fans out there haven’t forgotten about how big it is when Pittsburgh comes to town but I think if anyone has any hope left they want it to pull through for this game. I’d say were about due for a big win but it’s all gonna have to come down to the boys on the field.

The last time I saw the Browns beat the Steelers, I was ten years old (2000). I can barely remember it. I’m not sure why, but I missed the 2004 victory.
I can attest for this, not knowing what it’s like, but I’ve got a fantastic idea of what it would be like this year, to crush any hopes they had of making the playoffs.

Based on the Steelers fans I interact with on a daily basis here in Columbus, Ohio, I have little reason to believe that if the Steelers were 1-11 that the Steelers gear would go back in the closet and the bumper stickers would come off the cars and they’d stop hanging out in sports bars watching the games.

I don’t. In Louisville there are tons of Steelers’ fans and they have been around for awhile. Down here the only bandwagon travels south on 71 from Cincy.

Being the coach to finally beat the Steelers in Cleveland has to account for something, right?
Even if he’s fired, for that one reason, he’ll have my respect.
by Simmsinns on Dec 7, 2009 7:52 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I have a feeling that no matter what the final record ends up being, Lerner is fully committed to Mangini remaining coach. Obviously a new big-name GM who is not sold on Mangini could throw a wrench in the works, but other than that…I think we’re stuck with the guy.
That being said, unfortunately I don’t think we have much of a chance at all of beating the Steelers. As we all know they have the tendency of bitch-slapping us around, and the fact that the playoffs would be well-nigh impossible with another loss will keep them from overlooking us. They’re pissed off and reeling, and a visit by Cleveland should be just the thing to put their playoff plans back on track…for the time being.
It’s gonna suck seeing the stadium packed with terrible towels, but imagine all those orange seats we saw in the last game filled with black and yellow, because that’s what’s gonna happen.

If you asked me a week ago what the outcome of this game would be I would have instantly told you that this game would a Steeler rout, that the would humiliate us, run it up, talk trash, ect…. Now, I don’t know what to think. Now, no outcome would suprise me.
In the end, I doubt we pull off a win but I wouldn’t be shocked if we did. If you forced me to pick this game I’d call something like 24 – 20 Steelers. Their D isn’t what it has been in years past so I thik we can score a TD and a few FGs (I think Cribbs will get the other TD on a return, he’s due and kills the Steelers) but I don’t see us keeping them under 20 points.
Hope I’m wrong.

A win against the Steelers this week IMO would be more significant than anything the Browns accomplished during Romeo’s regime – especially since we are so late into the season and a win would essentially knock the Steelers out of the playoff picture. Even Romeo’s ‘07 team, while fun to watch, was fool’s gold against an easy schedule, and it didn’t even get us to the playoffs. I’ve been critical of Mangini this year, but a win over Pitt would count as real progress and would mean a lot going into the future.

YES I AM!!
Crazy!! And I never felt better!!
I am a season ticket holder and yes I went to the game.. (still not warm after 3 showers and a cup of hot chocolate)
I must say that was one of the sweetest victories I’ve seen.. I think were on our way.. no we prob will not win out this year, but I do see life. Lets hope it continues..
But also I think this puts a end to the strangle hold the steelers had on the AFC north.. Not cause we beat them. But to me its looking like the machine the steelers were is in need of a overhaul..
No O line.. there D is not what it was (yes there missing a couple key players but still.. )
they lost there identity with the pass first run second theory. And well, Big Ben can’t take to many more hits.. We could see a division that is up in the air for awhile. Which I don’t mind. Gives us some hope..
Now if we could just fix our problems.. Which now is this.. Mangini stays?? Hows that work for the new GM? How do we get a proven GM and not give him the power to boot Mangini and do what he feels is right? In some ways this win could make things a little murky in our vision of next year.. Its a tuff call…

OK, now that we’ve beaten Pittsburgh… What do we do? Are we as fans satisfied if we lose the rest of our games because we may get the #1 draft pick? Or do we keep expecting wins that will knock us down in the draft (N-Suh would look awesome in Brown… but would it kill us if we stayed with Rogers and Smith and Rubin?)? Have we seen enough from our players in the last few games to believe that the right way to go would be to work with the players we already have or keep going with the roster overhaul and completely rebuild in the offseason?

I would never want to lose just to get a pick. We keep trying to win and draft with what we have.
I reckon we’ve seen an outline from our players of what we have and where we can go. The last few games are mighty important. I don’t think there will be an overhaul and rebuild in the offseason. It’s already done. (Or so I’d like to believe).
