The game is underway -- the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl. I'm rooting for the Cardinals, but my official pick is the Steelers.

Kent Pride! It was quite funny at a KSU game last year, they were honoring Kent’s three Pro-Bowlers at a basketball game. Antonio Gates couldn’t make it, but he was cheered. Josh Cribbs got a HUGE ovation. James Harrison came out and was booed mercilessly. He played it up and laughed about it. For a Steeler, he seems like a pretty good guy.

Definitely can’t wait for the Office either — great comedy for those of you who have never watched it. Still hoping for a Cardinals’ comeback here.

I didn’t see a single bad call against the Steelers. Every Steeler penalty was earned. The two calls overturned on review were rightly overturned. There was an extremely questionable roughing the passer penalty against the Cardinals, and the referees clearly should have flagged Santonio Holmes’ touchdown celebration, which clearly used the ball as a prop. However, I will agree that none of this was game altering, although it would have been interesting to see that last drive with the Cardinals spotted 15 yards. It also would have been nice to see the last Kurt Warner “fumble” be reviewed. I think he fumbled, but it certainly would have taken the edge off the conspiracy theorists.

I think the roughing the passer call was atrocious. Like, all-time bad, and it was huge on that drive. Overall, I think the officiating and the game generally was played pretty sloppily until the fourth quarter. Way too much referee face time for my liking.

Yeah that was terrible. He hit him in the back with his hands, it wasn’t anything near his helmet. That was one of the worst roughing calls I’ve ever seen.

Forgive me if its just not my taste, but so many of those Super Bowl commercials seemed to be full of actors acting ‘dumb’, literally, and then doing something stupid. Then this morning, all I hear about is how these commercials were loved by the fans. I love humor like what was seen in the Office — these companies spend so much money on their Super Bowl ads, you’d think they could utilize their spotlight more appropriately.

The one commercial I really like was the one where the guy in the office has a moose head on his wall and they pan to the office next door and a guy is sitting under the rear end of a moose. Everyone I was watching the game with was laughing hysterically. Other than that one, and a couple good eTrade ones with the talking kids, there was nothing to get excited about.

The Office was fantastic. I DVR’d it and watched this afternoon. I loved the roast for Michael.

I knew when Santonio entered the NFL that he was going to be a great WR. I loved watching him for the Buckeyes and seeing his growth as a reciever over the years. I was really upset when Pittsburgh drafted him because I knew that was a great pick. It was a good game, but nowhere near the best Super Bowl in history. People are way too quick to label something the “greatest ever.”

To recap what ended up being a very good game:

I dropped my jaw in the direction of Larry Fitzgerald in the fourth quarter. Braylon, please, please, please emulate him. I was pondering whether he was a lot of hype and would fall drastically short of expectations, but…no. The guy is legit.

I thought the commercials were awful, except for the Doritos Magic Ball one. The GoDaddy commercials have devolved into…pornography, basically. With Danica Patrick. I’m not complaining necessarily ,but c’mon.

Good for Santonio Holmes. I’m not sure he really deserved the MVP, but that last touchdown catch was a thing of beauty. Roethlisberger threw a perfect pass and Santonio made the perfect catch. Props to even our enemies when they deserve it.

I enjoyed the game, unhappy at the outcome (obviously), but relieved that this year is over and we can look forward to the Draft and whatever else may come in the off-season.

Did you Know: Cleveland is has celebrated only one less NFL title than Pittsburgh?

The Cleveland Browns won the NFL Championship in 1950, 1954, 1955, 1964. The Cleveland Rams won in 1945. Throw in the 4 AAFC Titles the Browns won (1946, 47, 48, 49) and the Stillers still have a lot of work to do.

This was in response to me hearing how “unprecedented” it is for Pittsburgh to have won 6 SuperBowls. As if pro football didn’t start until the mid 60’s.

Not counting the Browns’ 8 titles between the two leagues they were in, the Packers (12), the Bears (9), and the Giants (7) all have won more titles than the Steelers.

Yeah, I hate that so much. That’s why I loved reading Dr. Z on SI.com because he knows football history. Someone on ESPN said that the Steelers were the “winningest football team in history.” I almost threw something at the TV. Why don’t people realize that the NFL didn’t start with the Super Bowl? The NFL started in 1920, and the Super Bowl in what, 1967? That’s a lot of history to ignore.
