Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

DBN Browns Big Board

There are many draft gurus and player rankings out there this time of year, but not many that are specifically Browns-oriented.  In anticipation of the Draft, I want to collectively rank the prospects as an online community.  Do you think we should always take the best player available?  Do you think our team-specific needs should play a role in who we value in the draft?

This is your chance to vote.

Star-divide

Here is how it will work:  Using the Scouts Inc ratings, I will compile a pool 15 or so draft eligible players.  We will take a poll and rank players five at a time--1 being the guy you would value the most if you were ManKok, 2 being the guy you would take if your first choice was gone, 3 being next in line, and so on.

Every four days or so, the votes will be tallied, and we will take the five highest-ranked players out of the pool of eligible players and put them on our "DBN Big Board".  I will add another 5 or so players to the draft-eligible pool, and we will vote again, ranking the next 5.

When we approach the draft, we will have ranked 50 or so players collectively.

If there are players you think I should include in the draft-eligible pool, let me know and I will put them in for the next poll.

Here is the first poll:

Feel free to give scouting reports, tell people who you voted for, and talk about what your criteria are in the comments.

NOTE:  Please only vote once.

My votes: Curry, Crabtree, Raji, Orakpo, Maybin, but I’m not sure about them past the first two.

I went mainly defense because that’s where I’d like to see us go.

Curry, Orakpo, Raji, Crabtree, Malcolm Jenkins

Curry, Crabtree, Raji…anyone else would be a reach or overrated in my eyes but I guess I would go Jenkins and Malaluga (sp?).

Crabtree, Curry, Cushing, Raji, and Maclin

I can’t put down trade down.

I like to think of this as “if we had every pick in the draft, this is the order in which we would pick them” even though that type of draft doesn’t make sense—so what picks we actually have don’t matter.

Also, if we traded down but the #1 guy on our board was still someone like Orakpo, he could still be around at the pick we traded down to.

Apparently, this survey was closed because we collected 100 responses. I should have it working again here in a bit. My apologies.

It shouldn’t be too hard to write a little script in PHP/MySQL to handle this…but then again, I don’t have much time to actually sit down and dedicate to it. :-(

Good to know you’ve already gotten that many votes though.

Browns Draft

I have posted on another site that I feel the Browns should draft Knowshon Moreno. We need a home run hitter in the backfield, something that we have lacked for toooo long. I remember some 30 years ago, the Browns drafting Greg Pruitt, and I was ecstatic!!! I have been a Jamal Lewis fan since he arrived here 3 years ago, but I grow tired of watching him shuffle his feet and not hit the hole. I understand that most of that is the structure of the offense, but we need someone of Knowshon’s talents that will hit the hole, get outside and create some excitement!!! Although I know the management wont draft him, and he wont be there forever, Knowshon is the type of player I want!

He’s a nice player, but no way should the Browns pick him at 5. You don’t take running backs that high unless they’re a LDT-type. You can get good RB’s later in the draft, and the Browns have many more important needs than running back. If they can find more creative ways to use Harrison and pick up a guy later in the draft to supplement Lewis then we’ll be just fine at running back.

I completely agree with B Brad. In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds we will be able to find a talented RB (a guy like Shonn Greene, Donald Brown or LeSean McCoy). Our big concern is the D. I live in NYC and LOVE Eric Barton coming over but that is just a start. If we played in the AFC East, maybe we could get away with having a finesse team but we have the Steelers and Ravens twice a year . . .

Knowshon looked really good when he was on the field for Georgia, but that whole offense was pretty good. I want to see him improve on his times from the combine at his pro day to “validate” what I thought I saw on film.

I personally would pass on Knowshon Moreno. He is a high energy player that is tough, but I don’t see a NFL RB in him. He does not have break away speed and doesn’t run between the tackles well. UGA ran a ton of toss sweeps and he used his inital burst and toughness to gain yards. He is not a burner and grinds away. I don’t think that he will last very long in the NFL.

I would rather have Wells, McCoy, or Brown. They seem better suited for the NFL game.

Curry, Maualuga, Monroe, Raji, Crabtree, thats my top 5

by cboldt12 on Mar 17, 2009 11:10 AM EDT reply actions

There needs to be an amazing improvement on the defensive side of the ball in order for our Browns to get back to respectability. Think of the games we would have won with even a mediocre D instead of the jokers that we had out there: Denver, Baltimore, Redskins and Bengals.

With that said, here is my 5:

1) Orakpo 2) Curry 3) Jenkins 4) Maluaga and 5) (if we were to trade down) Beanie

The ground rules specifically state that you shouldn’t post comments in all-caps because it’s distracting and hard to read. Any comments that ignore this rule will be deleted.

Based on my limited knowledge and what has happened so far in the off season, I’d have to go with: Curry, Raji, Cushing, Maclin, Maybin.

I thought about the OL, and maybe it would be good to get some more youth there, but I don’t think the 1st round is the time to do it this year. Honestly, I’m not sure I like any of my picks for the #5 spot beyond Curry and Raji, but felt I needed to complete the list.
