Shoun Greene
I know you guys hate hearsay but I thought this was interesting. I have a friend (not a Browns fan) who was at Iowa's Pro Day and apparently the Browns were all over him. He ran in the 4.4-4.5 range and looked great....
I tried to track down information regarding their Pro Day to validate but had no luck. If anyone else finds any it may be able to confirm the story.

No thanks..
he’s ok but I’d rather have Mccoy if we go RB in the 2nd.

Shonn Greene or Donald Brown?
Interesting options since McCoy should be gone

McCoy gone at pick 35..?
I’m not so sure.

Shonn Greene would be a fantastic second round pick.

shonn greene would be a good pick but only if we get him with the 50 pick. 35 is to early.id rather have donald brown a guy who averaged over 25 carries a game last yr.

I agree
Looking at the ability and workload of Donald Brown, he looks like a Browns running back. Can pound it down your throat but still explode when the defense is weakened.
Green has a limited track record, but a good record. If he is available at 50 and Brown isn’t, then he’d be a good pick.
There is a lot of depth in the running back class this year, so even a later pick may find a long term solution.

green is both taller and heavier (according to the interwebs) than brown.

Greene is a big back
he’s a pounder.

He is big and looks like he can be a pounder, but look what made Lewis so good for so many years. He was able to soften up the defenses but had the burst to break one off. Last year some felt the step Lewis regained the year before went away, and while you had a 1000 yard season, there is nobody (including Lewis) who would say he had a good year. The concern I have is that Greene would be like Lewis’ year last year, but never better.
Fron NFL.com
Greene took one season off at the collegiate level (he worked at a furniture store) before returning to play football for the Hawkeyes. He thrived as the team’s top back, rushing for 1,850 yards and scoring an impressive 20 touchdowns in 2008. Possibly the best power back in the 2009 class, Greene could turn into a LenDale White-type runner for a team looking to add some beef to its backfield.
Do we want LenDale White as a feature back?
Still a good pick with the right expectations, or some improvement from Harrison in a 2 back system.

LenDale is a fat blob, talented, but wastes it because he won't get into top shape
Greene’s been busting his ass to get in shape ever since he rejoined the team in the fall. Just look at his improvement throughout the year, him cutting weight between the end of the season and the combine and him improving in every single drill from the combine to his pro day.
He’s Lendale White if Lendale would put down the fork and work out.

How do they not see Beanie as the best power back?
by rufio on Mar 27, 2009 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Correct, but Greene also has more of an injury history and is significantly older.
I still like Andre Brown and Rashad Jennings over Greene.

Rashad Jennings could be this year’s Chris Johnson

I like Jennings, too, but think we’ll miss out if we can’t generate more picks.

In terms of shooting up draft boards or making a big impact as a rookie?
I think he is more comparable to Forte in terms of running style.

only one season as a starter though
so he hasn’t been beaten to crap
on the other hand, only one season as a starter. He’s not that proven.

Iowa Student/Fan here
NFL.com said Greene’s 40’s were 4.55 and 4.59. He also improved on both jumps and his bench from the combine.
Greene is a strong, pounding back. He’s not a burner, but once he played his way into shape (wasn’t with the team in 2007 because of academic issues, joined the team significantly overweight) he could run away from most college defenders. He’s not going to be a outside or big play runner in the Pros, but he’ll be an excellent powerback.
He can pass block, he’s more than big enough and gives the effort, but he was never really asked to be much of a receiver so it’s not really known what he can do in that aspect of the game. He rarely fumbled (only one I can remember came on a blindside, helmet to helmet hit). He’s as consistent as it gets. Over 100 yards and 4.2 YPC in every one of Iowa’s 13 games (and 5+ YPC in 10 of 13). Even though he’s coming out as a junior he’ll be 24 when the season opens.
I think he’ll be around in the early 3rd for you guys and would be a great pick for any team looking for a powerback and doesn’t require a RB to do more than pass blocking and dumpoffs in the passing game.

what’s the story on the age thing? 24 is one old-ass junior.

two years post-high school when he wasn't using his eligibility
a year straight out of high school in some academy place (not sure why, but grades would be a decent guess) and 2007 going to community college because his grades had gotten him kicked off the team at Iowa.

Id rather pick a back like Glen Coffee with a 4th rounder. I also heard we sent Ryan to LSU’s pro day and showed interest in Jackson
