Is there really a point to any of this?
I just think its fun to set up a draft board like real teams do, see how other people rank the prospects (especially concerning what we need and don’t need) and how high people would take players if they were drafting in place of ManKok.
Its probably just as useless as all of the mock drafts out there this time of year but I have fun with all of it because I love draft season.
Yea its just not as fun as the first boards where the big names are

Not a reach
Take Clay Matthews Jr. in the first round. He’s not just a sentimental favorite, he’s the spark we need at linebacker. Defensive ends, sorry, but DEs have been a major bust for the Browns in recent years. I’d go for a corner and a running back next. Predicting this stuff is like reading tea leaves, but think for a moment at the first home game when Clay Jr. comes out on the field. There are simply no other choices out there as electrifying – none.
It brings up an interesting question, though. We can’t really look at the Browns’ recent history in picking DE/OLB’s cuz the folks who made those picks are gone. So what about the guys who are in there now. We’ve heard about how Gohlston turned out for Mangini, but did he make any other picks at that position who can be evaluated?
I’ve been under the impression that he had a big say in most of the picks for the Jets, so I’d think that anyone wondering how successful the 2009 draft will be for the Browns should look at Mangni’s overall track record with the Jets. If my wide world of web connection wasn’t so cantankerous I might even look into it myself.
Gholston has had one year in the league. Give him a fair shot. At this point, though, he doesn’t look good.
I’m not necessarily down on Gholston. I didn’t watch any Jets games, so all I have to go on is that second hand impression. I’m just wondering what kind of track record Mangini has in the draft.
I would ask the same thing about Koknis, but I don’t think anyone outside of Baltimore could tell you if he ever gave so much as a helpful suggestion regarding the draft. Hopefully his pro player scouting will translate well into the draft, but for now he is (to me) a mystery wrapped in an enigma rolled into a tortilla.
Mangini, on the other hand is supposed to have had substantial input in the process – at least that was my understanding. I’m thinking that a review of his draft results with the Jets and how that might help or hurt the Browns would make a nice research project for someone with impecable football accumen and something like, say, a Browns web site (or a minion of the same).
Not that it would be a guarantee of what’s to come, but it might lead to more informed speculation as to what the new regime might do.
d’brickashaw ferguson and nick mangold were his first two picks ever. each has started every game of his career and mangold just went to the pro bowl. not a bad kick off.

Ridiculous?
You want ridiculous? How about Courtney Brown? How about Gerald Warren? Or William Green? Sure, there’s a new regime in there, but right now they’re a pig in a poke. You know as much about them as I do. The whole pre-pre-season draft discussion is ridiculous, let’s take it from there. Everyone’s an expert, everyone has a lock, everyone knows where it’s going.
Everyone knows squat. So I want to pick a sentimental favorite who’s probably going in the first round anyway?
Tell you what, I’ll just leave it to all you keyboard generals here who refer to yourelves as Commish . Your wife thinks you’re smart.
I bow to your infinite wisdom.
wow. a lot of misplaced anger here. i’m not sure what this Gerald Warren fellow did to deserve you taking him out here.
