What is your dream draft?

We as a group have spent a ton of time focusing on the draft and discussing who we should take.  So I am wondering what is everyone's dream draft?  Who do you want in the first round?  Who on our roster would you trade?  What second rounders do you want (5 that you would be happy with)?  And finally give us 5 sleeper picks that will go after the 2nd round that you really want on the Browns.  (No trade downs, just because I think we all want to trade down.)

I will get it started;

First Rounder:  Micheal Crabtree WR Texas Tech

Trade: Derek Anderson and Braylon Edwards (BE as long as we get a good package, don't just give him away.)

Second Rounders: I LOVE Alex Mack.  Duke Robinson, Patrick Chung, Micheal Johnson (too many tools for this late) and  James Laurinitis (If he is still there in the second, I don't see how we could pass him up.  I know he doesn't have perfect size, but the kid has a knack for big plays).

Sleepers:

Travis Beckham TE Wisconsin (If he didn't get hurt last year he would be an easy first rounder.  Kid is awesome.  Not as athletic as K2, but pretty close.)

Pat White QB WVU (I would leave him as a QB.)

Javon Ringer RB MSU (McShay has him going in the 5th round of his latest draft.  If we could get him in the 4th,I don't care how many carries he had in college.)

James Davis RB Clemson (I have always had a soft spot for this kid, I just think that he is a good all around back is rated much too low.  Could help this team out day 1.)

Ricky Jean-Francois DE LSU (Can dominate a game (OSU-LSU) yet is rated two-three rounds later than teammate Tyson Jackson.  Would be a very nice 3-4 DE.)

Braylon to NY

Whether there is a new CBA next year or not, Braylon is not signing with the Browns. the team is not going to be competetive next year, so it’s in Mankok’s best interests to make a full rebuilding the M.O. for the franchise. You might as well get what you can for him and the Giants are the only suitors. If you don’t deal him, you will be 6-10 and he will be pissed all year. The front office created this by actively shopping Edwards. Browns fans deserve better than these two clowns.

by GiantsWin on Apr 23, 2009 6:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

There’s also just pure market value to consider. Roy Williams got a 1 &3 and then some, right? Well, Roy Williams < Braylon Edwards.

To come at it from the other side, the Giants are a stacked team, a Super Bowl threat, with one glaring weakness for which Edwards is perfectly suited. And they also have something like 11 picks (and I know 2 second rounders), so you could ask what the hell are they waiting for if all it takes is fair market value to become NFC favorites?

Why? I would love it if we traded Braylon. And I’d be willing to bet that Giants fans would be a tad displeased with him after a few years.

I’m not so sure about that. Braylon can certainly put up the numbers that Plaxico did (or better) without causing all the trouble. Braylon’s not a guy who is going to show up late for meetings constantly like Plaxico did (which got him suspended for a game). Braylon is not a troublemaker so I don’t know why you think Giants fans would be displeased with him.

Drops?

I think if he had a Ravens-game-type drop in the playoffs, they’d be pretty unhappy. Still, no guarantee it would happen on a big stage like that. He probably won’t literally shoot himself in the leg?

by rufio on Apr 24, 2009 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I know about the drops. But if he gives them great production (close to what he did in ‘07, which is certainly possible with Eli throwing to him) then I think they’ll forgive a few drops. Of course, if he has a big drop in the playoffs they’ll remember it, but that would happen for any player on any team. Bill Buckner was a pretty good player but all everyone remembers was the ball rolling through his leg in ’86.

New York fans are all about what have you done for me lately. Braylon could catch 19 TDs and if he drops a pass to lose them the game in the playoffs, they will boo the crap out of him

he doesn’t have an option. CBA or no, the browns are in the driver’s seat with either the franchise tag or his status as a restricted free agent.

we appreciate the sentiment that you think we deserve good things, but it’s WAY to early to judge ManKok clowns (at least when it comes to building a football team…they do seem to resemble clowns in other ways).

BRAYLON

okay look i am a huge browns fan and i LOVE Braylon! Just because Braylon had a bad year last year, now all you suppose to be browns fans wants to trade him?? Everyone LOVES Braylon when he makes big plays or gets touchdowns and you guys hate him when he drops passes!!!! So where are the TRUE Browns fans? You got to LOVE your team no matter what or who! And this crap about braylon wanting to be an actor? LOL Just because he is in commercials and on ESPN doesnt mean CRAP!!! Everyone doesnt commercials and stuff does that mean they want to be an actor???? Get real people!!!! I will stick by Braylon no matter what because i am a TRUE browns fan!!!!!

So, if Braylon is traded to the Giants, will you “stick by Braylon” and become a Giants fan or stay a Browns fan? Wouldn’t a true Browns fan be a fan of the team no matter which players are on the team?

Listen, I don’t want to trade Braylon, either. But just because we’re talking about possibly trading him doesn’t mean anybody hates him or isn’t a “TRUE Browns fan”. He’s a very valuable football player and can garner a great deal of value in return which is why the Browns are considering trading him. That doesn’t necessarily mean they think he’s a bad player, on that he’s might be more valuable to another team than to the Browns. If you’re really a “TRUE Browns fan”, or the fan of any NFL team, you know that any player can be traded or released at any time so you can’t base your love of the team on one player. Browns fans will root for the team no matter who is on the team — that’s a true Browns fan.

You mention all of the commercials that BE is in. That just reinforces the fact that I believe, which is that Braylon Edwards doesn’t love football. That is a problem. I think that he would rather be in Hollywood than on the practice field.

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 24, 2009 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s kind of ridiculous to say. How do you know Braylon doesn’t love football? He seems to always play hard when he’s on the field — what more can you ask for? Assuming he doesn’t love football and questioning his work ethic because he was in a couple commercials is silly. How many commercials has Peyton Manning been in the past few years? He’s been in more than any other player, I’d say, and would anybody question his work ethic or love of the game — or course not!! I don’t like it when fans act like players aren’t allowed to have a life outside of football. Players can’t practice 24 hours a day all year long.

If you want to trade Braylon because he can get valuable draft picks in return then that’s a reasonable argument, but I don’t like people making up things about him that just aren’t true to criticize. Just because he dropped some passes doesn’t me he’s not trying hard or doesn’t care — don’t jump to those conclusions.

by Buckeye Brad on Apr 24, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i totally agree with you. he’s at all the voluntary stuff. he appears to work hard…he rushed back from a pretty rough knee injury and became a pro bowler, after all. there’s nothing to suggest he doesn’t work hard or love football, and the fact that he has other interests/goals does means nothing.

no one’s said “he’d rather be doing charity work than on the practice field”, and the truth of the matter is that he’s spent just as much time, if not more, setting up various foundations (in cleveland, detroit, and at michigan) as he has filming commercials. the hollywood criticism is a cop out.

by DontCallMeJoey on Apr 24, 2009 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The quote of Will Demps that I put up in a fanshot says it all for me. Your right, Manning does do a ton of commercials, and I believe that he does love football.

To you really believe that Peyton Manning would ask a player about acting between plays? You do not see any correlation between his lack of focus and his asking players about off the field activites? I can’t imagine Tom Brady asking Strahan about TV ?

I don’t like it when fans act like players aren’t allowed to have a life outside of football. Players can’t practice 24 hours a day all year long.

I understand and I do not expect players to be robots. But when I see a player have a complete lack of focus at times, then read about how he is discussing acting during games, football doesn’t sound all that important to him. My belief is that BE doesn’t love football as much as he loves the spotlight, and he would rather be on ESPN talking about blogs, then on for scoring TD’s.

And Kellen Winslow Jr thinks the same thing after his quote of New York is his kind of town. If someone else in his locker room thinks that he loves the spotlight, maybe I could be on to something.

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 24, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There are many, many professional athletes who love the spotlight. If you want to build a team entirely of players who don’t love attention and being on TV, then good luck with that. But I don’t think it’s possible.

by Buckeye Brad on Apr 24, 2009 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am sure that’s not the most bizzare/anger-worthy thing that has been said by a Brown between plays. NFL players probably talk about irreverent things all the time on the field. Ocho Cinco probably talked about his celebrations all the time but it didn’t matter because he produced. I am willing to bet large sums of money that someone on some team has asked Tony Romo about Jessica Simpson and Tom Brady about Giselle.

Do you have huge problems with LeBron and the Cavs goofing around and dancing during NBA games and making up handshakes during free throws? I don’t, because he just delivered the best regular season in Cavs history, is undefeated in the playoffs so far this year, and makes that team better every night. Would I like him to be more like MJ? Maybe, but in the end he is going to have to be himself to be successful.

Lets be honest: the real problem with Braylon was that he didn’t play well last year.

by rufio on Apr 24, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lets be honest: the real problem with Braylon was that he didn’t play well last year.

This! This! This! This!!!!

That’s what bugs me about fans saying all these things about Braylon’s supposed lack of work ethic, how he supposedly doesn’t like Cleveland, and all these other reasons to trade him. The real problem is that he didn’t play well enough last year. If he had a great season than nobody would be talking about these things. NOBODY. Remember when Braylon was doing O-H-I-O on the sidelines? Was anyone talking about how he doesn’t like Cleveland then? Of course not. But now that he’s had a few too many drops, some people are claiming that he has a bad attitude and needs to be traded.

You’re exactly right that the same behavior is often accepted when a team is winning while it’s condemned when a team is losing. For example, if you like to joke around when you’re winning then you’re a fun-loving team, but if you’re losing then you don’t take the game seriously enough. Let’s talk about what’s actually happening on the field instead of making things up we can’t possibly know about (like if Braylon loves playing football or not).

by Buckeye Brad on Apr 24, 2009 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lets be honest: the real problem with Braylon was that he didn’t play well last year.

Yes, that is a reason. But I do believe that Braylon Edwards had a huge year, and started making all the rounds on TV. He was the new “it” guy in the NFL. He loved the spotlight. He made it known that he wanted to be on TV. I have no problem with a guy wanting to set-up a career when he retires, but when it seems that he is more interested in his post-playing career than his CURRENT career, that is a HUGE problem at least to me.

I am not willing to give away BE. I still think that he is a very good player and when he wants to be a great player, he is. I don’t like the fact that he has skipped all workouts so far this year. I think the thing that BE needs most is a kick in the ass. I hope that Mangini can get a Kings Ransom for BE, and if he can’t keep him and make him play to the best that he can.

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 25, 2009 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, and look at how quickly all the celebrity faded when he had a down year.

If he and/or his agents aren’t stupid, they will realize that pro bowls = acting gigs. Pro Bowls is what I want out of Braylon.

Good coaches will find ways to align team interests and goals with personal interests and goals. If it is in a selfish player’s self-interest to look, sound, act, and play like a team-first guy, he will do it.

Braylon is a stud WR who actually blocks.

I think he wants to make sure he stays famous after he is done playing. He knows he will be done by 30-35. He’s trying to get his name out there now so people know him.

Problem is, he doesn’t realize the best way to get his name out there is by making plays and pro bowls.

well, he’s pretty much come out and says he wants to be an entertainer.

after re-reading, this nugget was pretty funny:

“You won’t catch me doing end zone dances like Chad Johnson or TO, because at the end of the day, it always ends up negative,” he says.

So I guess that air guitar in the endzone he pulled out after his first TD last year was improvised, huh?

1. Please, take it easy on the punctuation.

2. TONS of people (myself included) have already given plenty of good reasons to NOT trade Braylon. Personally, I don’t want to keep having the same conversation every time his name comes up in trade talks so I am just ignoring any discussion of it right now. Take a look around the site and read what we have written.

3. “True” fans root for their team no matter what, and that includes when that team trades away their favorite player or does something stupid. Challenging peoples’ fanhood is a little confrontational for a noob. You don’t even know us, how can you challenge our fanhood?

Yes he had a bad year but he also had a good year! I just dont think trading him is a good move! And Brady Quinn has done a commercial does that mean he wants to be in Hollywood?? I understand they can be traded but i dont think trading braylon would be good! I mean hell we already got rid of a great player(winslow) why trade our WHOLE team?? It doesnt make since to me! by braylonfan17 on Apr 24, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

who is talking crap about him? if you’ve read any of the braylon-related stuff on this site you’ll see that pretty much everyone here thinks that braylon’s a very good receiver, that last year was an aberration as far as his performance, and that trading him would have to bring with it a major haul of both draft picks and players.

no one here (who is serious) discounts his value. it’s just that his value to the browns may be best realized in a trade. that’s not “talking crap”, that’s just thinking critically about football.

by DontCallMeJoey on Apr 24, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It comes down to Braylon wanting to be in Cleveland long-term. Everyone on this site as far as I know wants to keep him if he will extend with the Browns. Most of us acknowledge if he doesn’t want to be with the BRowns, it might make sense to get some value back for him

by Roger Dorn on Apr 24, 2009 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, if he is committed to staying long term, I would not give him up. The whole, they don’t like me cause I am from Michigan comment, and the well, I am only gonna do charity stuff in Detroit comment really rubs me the wrong way, which makes me think he doesn’t want to be here. My dream draft

1. Trade D.A and Braylon Edwards.

2. Shock the word and draft Beanie with the 5th. How many years can the Browns watch productive running backs fall past them?

3. Package picks received in the aforementioned trades to move back into the 1st and get the pacific islander kid from USC.

4. Take the highest rated receiver still on the board , hopefully Harvin slides to 36, in the second round.

5. Take that Gilbert kid with the 50th.

If we actually did all of that, the only problem would be not replacing Braylon, though, wouldn’t it?

I mean I would take Beanie, Maualuga, Gilbert, and Harvin and be pretty happy about our draft. I would much rather trade down from 5 to get the extra pick and keep Braylon, though.

Still seems pretty unreasonable to expect. Another “just fix it all and get 3 out of the best 10 players in this draft! No problem!” idea. That’s the problem with asking about a “dream” scenario.

Trade down from 5 to somewhere between 10-20, getting another 2nd. Trade Braylon for a 1 and 3, or the 2/5/Smith deal. Trade DA for a 3rd.

Then we have, say: 12, 29, three 2nd rounders and a third and still Quinn. Get best defensive front 7 at 12 (I would like Rey), best reciever at 29, center at 36, and best on your board of RB/Safety/LB/CB at the last two 2nd round choices and third rounder. Nail them all as starters, above average starters or superstars. Lickity split.

You still have a second 2nd rounder, BQB (from moving down out of the 5 spot).

Okay, so it is a bit of a stretch…

The team i expect we trade down with would be the redskins at 13 and they have no 2nd rounder this year so i would expect maybe a 3rd round this year and a 2nd next year and we can throw in one of our next years 5th rounders if it would help the deal get done.

It is hard to think who to pick at that spot, and man, it feels nice to have so many picks you dont know what to do with them, but i guess i would take Frantz Joseph
