Browns Trade No. 5 Pick to Jets for 1st Rounder, 2nd Rounder, and Players

Take your time and breathe in and breathe out, Cleveland Browns fans. After we were disappointed that the Seattle Seahawks selected LB Aaron Curry, head coach Eric Mangini brokered a deal with his former team, the New York Jets. Here's what went down:

JETS GET:

  • Browns' 1st round pick (No. 5 overall) to select QB Mark Sanchez

BROWNS GET:

  • Jets' 1st round pick (No. 17 overall)
  • Jets' 2nd round pick (No. 52 overall)
  • Jets DE Kenyon Coleman
  • Jets QB Brett Ratliff
  • Jets S Abram Elam

Right now, this is our NEW Day 1 draft schedule:

BROWNS DAY 1 DRAFT PICKS:

  1. Round 1: No. 17 overall
  2. Round 2: No. 36 overall
  3. Round 2: No. 50 overall
  4. Round 2: No. 52 overall

You may comment on the trade here, but remember to stick with our NFL Draft Day 1 open thread to talk about all of today's action!

I would have taken it for just a 2nd rounder, but then throw in one starter and one possible starter WOOHOO

The guys on Sirius speculated whether we didn’t get enough when you consider “trade value” of the draft picks based on points, but I think they leaned towards it being ago because of having three players thrown in.

how can you not like the Browns getting another 2nd pick, top half of the round? I don’t know the players they’re sending our way yet, but there was nobody at the 5th choice who could be the difference maker for the Browns

17th pick

I predict the Browns taking Percy Harvin at #17.

As a Jets fan...

Let me say; enjoy an average aging de, a bone headed S, and a solid as a rock 3rd string qb…maybe the 2nd rounder will give you a player you like, but it didnt seem like the Jets would find that type of player at that spot…also have fun with the 17th pick, it should yield quality. The Jets finally got a franchise qb and I am more than happy with what they had to give up

Ozone

Why are u here bashing our team go and find the jets board and celebrate ok, dont come here and knock us.

just wanted to see the other side's reaction to the deal...

someone inquired what kind of players you’re getting and what i gave you was the truth…I have no hard feelings towards the browns or their fans (ok maybe a few towards mangini) I do feel the browns can find good players at both spots they received from the jets, but the players they gave them are run of the mill at best. (and you can thank Mangini for them because I’m sure he had quite the say in the deal)

THANKS MANGINI

DEF NOTHIN AGAINST THE BROWNS OR FANS BUT AS A JET FAN COULDNT BE HAPPIER, NONE OF THOSE 3 GUYS WOULD EVEN PLAY FOR US THIS YEAR, COLEMAN HAS BEEN A BUST AFTER WE SIGNED IN F.A AND ELAM CAN’T COVER, BASICALLY MANGINI GAVE US THE 5TH PICK FOR A LOW 2ND ROUNDER. U WILL SEE, HE WASNT LIKED HERE AND HE WILL RUB EVERYBODY WRONG THERE, HE THINKS HE’S BELICHIK

so much for my pick

I wanted Percy Harvin, we need a play maker and now we may not get one.

playmakers are useless without a solid O line

you could have gotten a Center in the 2nd rnd with all those picks, A WR is needed since stallworth may not play this year and we no longer have Joe J. anymore and K2 is gone.

Trade with Eagles

What’d we get for that trade?
another 6th rounder?

by DPS on Apr 25, 2009 6:50 PM EDT reply actions

yes, see the other story on the front page .. .we got the #194 pick to move down two more spots

by talonk on Apr 25, 2009 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

We are a joke!

We trade 3 times in the first round and basically got something we could have gotten in the 2nd round with all the extra picks we have, We could have had a WR here with the 1st rnd pick, browns fans i am one of you but face it its over before it gets started,
