Draft Open Thread pt. 2
Cleveland Browns Day 1 Picks:
- Round 1: No. 5 overall--Alex Mack, C, Cal
- Round 2: No. 36 overall
- Round 2: No. 50 overall
- Round 2: No. 52 overall
This is also an open thread for ALL of today's action! Please try to refrain from creating individual threads that state what you specifically think about a pick -- that's what this post and any subsequent posts that Chris or I make are for. With that said, if a late-breaking trade appears while I'm gone, feel free to make a FanPost about it until either Chris or myself have the chance to make a front page post about it.
Lets hope we can get some quality talent in the 2nd round!

So NE trades down a second time, and Green Bay selects Matthews, that’s one LB gone we can take at 36
I am scared that Rey ends up in Pittsburgh

If we could get him in the 2nd round I’d be ecstatic. Maybe we can trade up with one of our 6 rounders for him.

Outside of his injury history, the kid is a gangster. I think at times he was a bit of a pansy ass, maybe other teams thought the same thing.

Barwin, Maualuga, Nicks, Britt, Paul Kruger, Sidbury, Veikune, all possibilities throughout the 2nd round if they are still available.
Just saw the steroids guy you guys were talking about.
Those are his real arms, he actually got ridiculous infections from the ’roids and was draining pus from his own biceps with a syringe at one point. He is now upset because he has a scar from it and his arms are uneven.
There was a special on some news/discovery-type program on him that I saw about a year ago. Disgusting.
So with Thomas, Steinbach, on the left side and Mack in the middle, does that make it St Clair and Tucker on the right side?
Sounds like an elite line.

So are we confident Braylon can come in, dedicated, and anchor this receiving corps for our franchise QB, Quinn? If I knew nothing about his “demeanor”, I’d be ecstatic at the potential.

I dont want Pitt to get Beanie!
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
I’d hate to have to root against Beanie because he went to the Stillers.

i didn’t realize that draft order was determined by postseason performance and not regular season record.
I think that is supposed to change next year.
by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 25, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Does this leave Robiskie as a likely pick for the Browns in the 2nd? I’ve lost track of which WRs are left.
God help us

Pitts should have to forfiet a 1st for winning the SB!
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Only hope is that they take Britton from Arizona or Unger

Everette Brown would be fantastic here…he wasn’t a top 5 but is great value now.
Resident Josh Freeman fan.
I think that Robo is maxed out. I don’t think he will get any better. He has had NFL level coaching since birth and he couldn’t get open on a consistent basis in college. That is a major problem for me. I think he is a 3rd to 4th WR in the NFL.

. He has had NFL level coaching since birth and he couldn’t get open on a consistent basis in college.
Either a total lie or lack of knowledge.
Resident Josh Freeman fan.
Please, name me the games he hasn’t had success against top corners. He had great games against any team that played man coverage, and that is the only time a receiver is “going against” a cornerback.
He kills press coverage. He gauges his speed and settles into zones. He does everything right as a receiver.
The problem is that he doesn’t have top end speed, and won’t be a number one receiver on a team.
Resident Josh Freeman fan.
Vonte Davis – 2 games for 6 catches and 40 yards. That is the only first round CB in the BigTen (other than Malcom).
You have your belief, I have mine. I hope I am wrong though!

REEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY
Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.
my guess is with the 2 defenders we picked up from the jets, allowed the staff to take these two offensive players early
brian Robiskie
fuck that noise

When do we pick next? I’m drunk at a buddy’s house and totally worthless on a pc laptop.

Looking at these trades, I wonder if we could’ve gotten more than two ^ round picks to drop from 17 to 21. I’m not complaining, I like Mack, but…
Thats fine we didnt want him anyway. They still have 2 more picks before us so im afraid they will take barwin

BTW, I was in the car and couldn’t post, but the Sirius NFL Radio guys were unanimous in praising the Robiskie pick.
why. he doesnt have much potential

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Apr 25, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions
What they said: 1) he runs great routes. 2) he’s a coach’s son who has “been on that field before.” 3) he’ll fit in next to Braylon, assuming he stays. 4) any guy who anchors the OSU 4×100 team can’t be that slow
They came out of commercial straight to the pick and weren’t talking about who else the Browns should’ve considered.
how does he compare to ted ginn

Butler could become a stud. Pulling for that kid even though I don’t like NE.
Ron Brace is a great value because 330lb guys who don’t have a rep for being a headcase don’t come along too often.
Brown/Barwin and Jennings to the Browns, please.
I like Brace more than Raji personally

I got nothin, man. Someone solid and boring, probably? If you are going to nail me to one person I am saying Paul Kruger if he is available.
It would be hard not to look at Barwin, Sidbury or Sintim. I think everyone knows how I feel about Rashad Jennings. Moala, Marks, and Gilbert are probably in play as well.
Everyone’s gonna start trading all over the place to get their picks now?

I’m back…..was very surprised by the Robiskie pick. Thought he’d be available later. Mangini must not have like Maluaga. I wonder if they would have picked Laurinitis if the Rams didn’t take him.

But we got two defensive players in the Sanchez trade. Doesn’t that count?
by Buckeye Brad on Apr 25, 2009 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I counted those guys as depth, not starters. I thought we were going to leave this round with two starters.
by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 25, 2009 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions
But if we trade Braylon do we want to start the year with two rookie WR? I don’t think this means we’re trading Braylon, I think we’re just getting depth at reciever.
Yay we get the Dallas pick!

From cleveland.com:
Veikune is a hard-working, lean defenseman with top-notch speed for the position. His speed and agility may necessitate a permanent shift to Outside Linebacker in the NFL. He enjoyed a very productive career at Hawaii and is the type of high-motor, energetic presence that can cause fits along the line of scrimmage. He sheds blocks well and uses his hands to his advantage, often times engaging first and dictating position. Veikune had some experience standing up on the edge at Hawaii, experience that makes him a versatile project of sorts if an NFL team wanted to alter his role. He lacks the elite type of athleticism that may be needed to shift to OLB, and due to his lack of size he can sometimes be engulfed by bulky tackles. Veikune’s lack of ideal height and bulk for defensive-end will likely lead to a shift to OLB in a 3-4 scheme at the next level, where his energy and motor will be well served.
hell yeah

I like the WR’s, the DE from Hawaii is a good pick. Good Work
