Expected rookie contracts
James Walker over at the worldwide leader has an estimate of the AFC North's rookies' contracts.
He lists Mack's estimate at 5 years and $13 million. Compare that to Cincinnati having to pay the mentally questionable Andre Smith $50 million over 5 years, and keep in mind that if we stayed at #5 overall we probably would have had to pay more than that.
I'm not as concerned with the salary cap as many of you all, but the difference in pay is pretty remarkable.

How r we looking against the cap? i dont think a team should look at it that much because if you are too careful with the cap u will end up passing on some good players.

My understanding is that we are a good deal under the cap. Probably should be useful if we are looking to extend DQwell and/or Braylon next year. I think Cribbs is looking for a new deal as well

Is that guaranteed money?

That is total money. Sam Baker, #21 overall last year has a 5-year, $10.5 million contract with $8.1 million guaranteed. He plays LT, too, a position typically paid more than C. But agents always try to get a certain % raise over the last pick at the same spot. So Mack will probably get a little more than Baker, but not a whole lot more.

Inflation in rookie contracts is really quite ridiculous.
