Practice Squad

OK, so since we have talked about players' odds of making the practice squad, I have a few questions about it.

Star-divide

How many players are on it?

How are you eligible for it?

What kind of players does the practice squad usually consist of?

Who were some of the players on ours last year?

Is there a way to hold on to players that arent on your roster without having them on the practice squad?

Any guesses on who will be on ours this year?

This is by no means an expert opinion, more along the lines of guessing. I think there has to be at least 22 players to effectively man both offense and defense positions. Just being on the team makes you eligible, but most players there are there because the coaches don’t think they have reached the desired level of playing ability or need some work on their fundamentals.
The next two questions I will pass on because I have no idea. As for this year, theres only two I can think of and that would be Ellis and Purcell.
Sorry if this was all wrong, I just wanted to at least try.

I found the actual NFL Players Association article that explains everything about the practice squad: Link (make sure you scroll down after clicking)

There are 8 eligible players, with an option of a 9th if they are an international player. I’m unclear on the article whether a player like Melila Purcell could serve for a third season now. You can definitely serve two if you meet the conditions, but the conditions for a third season are throwing me.

Our practice squad for at least part of last season:
    * 44 Jed Collins TE
    * 8 Mike Dragosavich P
    * 62 Dustin Fry C
    * 90 David Holloway ILB
    * 9 Lance Leggett WR
    * 69 Christian Mohr DE Int’l
    * 60 Melila Purcell DE
    * 74 Kurt Quarterman G
    * 83 Steve Sanders WR

I guess I was wrong. Never thought to check the NFLPA though. My bad.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Leggett and Purcell on there again. I also think Norwood and M. Davis might be on there.
