Merriman in 2010?
In the Rumor central section of ESPN.com an article suggested that Shawne Merriman will not resign with the chargers because Phillip Rivers will be First on their to-do list and the chargers reached with the 16th overall pick in the 09 draft to select hybrid de/olb Larry English. Also the chargers will have to use the Franchise tag or resign RB Darren Sproles. If Merriman is let go can the Browns strike and get the best rush linebacker in NFL?

We have been saving cap room this offseason. It would be tough to outbid if there is no cap next year though

well lets all hope there is a cap or we’ll never see the browns being a contender ever again

Haha…I like how he states, " I love my cleveland teams." But, the first team listed under his favorites is the Cincinnati Reds.

I have been thinking about this too. If there is a cap, then I think we have a chance. And also, do you know much about LT’s situation?

Ellis would still be nice this year though.

If his knee is better, maybe.
We need to draft someone like Merriman, though.

Players like him deteriorate quickly. In a few years, he won’t be the physical specimen he has been recently. I also question his future injury status with his known use of PED’s. He’s going to want a long term contract with a lot of guaranteed money. I’m not so sure he is worth it.

my thoughts, exactly. and coming off of big knee surgery, we’ll have to see what he comes with in the ’09 season.
by the way, can i take week 5 in the “when will merriman test positive in ’09” pool?

How are they not extending some of those guys right now? I would have thought they would have extended McNeil and Rivers at the minimum by now.

Why did we give Bowens and Barton 4 year contracts when they are both > 30?

Contracts in the NFL are not guaranteed. The biggest risk for cutting a player early relates to the size of the bonus. It would be useful to take a look at what kind of bonus both players received to determine how easy it would be to cut these players

Robin hood and his MERRIMAN
First off, see what I did there?
But for real. As a Maryland student, I have obvious love for Lights Out. He even showed up for the Big East/ACC challenge this year. Good times.
Still, dude is a steroid abuser. If he played baseball he’d be a pariah. Instead he’s an all-pro. Hooray beer advertiser dollars.
