Braylon Edwards... injured?
Braylon was asked to report Monday with the Rookies and he was a No-Show. Braylon eventually reported on Tuesday and was immediately placed on the Active/NFI List.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what his ailment is? Could this be the reason he was "untradeable" in April? Even though we were led to believe that the Browns wanted a 1st and 2nd and the Giants would not pony up that much for Mr Dropsy. Were the Giants aware of this "issue"?
With this being a contract year I am curious why Mangini is keeping this hush hush. No way Braylon is a Brown next season anyways so if he isnt traded by Week 5 I would assume he will hit the FA Market come next spring.
To clarify, I think Braylon is DONE with Cleveland. I think he is a solid guy and will continue to be a solid pro but with the drops last season along with the huge blowup he displayed earlier this year stating he has done millions of dollars worth of charities for the city of Cleveland and if he continues to be disrespected he will take his charitable donations to Detroit. I just have this gut feeling he wants to prove he is a star this season and get out of dodge.
So I am hoping he comes balls out and has a 07 type season but if he does you gotta think he is FOR SURE done as a Brown? If teams see that he had such an impact year with a Pro Bowl season already under his belt will we even be able to resign him?

Whoa now, settle down. I saw an interview with Braylon where he said he would be out there during OTA’s if it were up to him. Mangini made the call, they are being cautious.
If Braylon blows up this season, we have the option to franchise tag him. If we want to keep him, we will (which is why it’s good to preserve cap space)

I might get some nastiness back for this one.. but I really hope it isnt another staph infection. Really. Enough with that being associated with us now.

Honestly, now that you mention it, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that’s what it is. At this point it really could be just about anything, but given the circumstances, I’d bet staph infection is somewhere at the top of the list of likelihood. It would also explain why they wouldn’t want to release the details, then again, as stated before Mangini keeps just about everything that way.
But you very well may be on to something…

phew!
But yes, the fact Mangini was keeping it so hus hush made me start to sweat a little and I had nightmares of little staph monsters chasing me. But like you said, thats just the way he is.

How surprising that ever sunny AaronD posted this.

Love the personal attacks on this site. I am not allowed to be negative or in this instance just bring up an odd situation with Braylon but everyone else can be negative towards me.
How about you just comment on the post and not the writer.

Sarcasm isn’t a personal attack.
You didn’t “just bring up an odd situation with Braylon.” You did that, and made multiple conjectures that were all on the most negative end of the spectrum, most of which were long refuted by reporting and/or simple knowledge of the economics of football. Of course, it is your right to post this, just don’t be surprised that in conjunction with your history of only posting negative opinions, people will throw out the most harmless little ribbings your way.
Could this be the reason he was “untradeable” in April?
The reasons he wasn’t traded were resolved months ago.
I am curious why Mangini is keeping this hush hush.
This is like being curious as to why the sun came up today. Mangini wants the media to know as little as possible, all the time, as he considers any information being made public a competitive disadvantage.
No way Braylon is a Brown next season anyways
Pure negative conjecture
but if he does you gotta think he is FOR SURE done as a Brown
Pure negative conjecture
will we even be able to resign him?
We can’t not sign him, as Dorn explained above. If the FO wants him to be a Brown, he’s a Brown.

Why post a comment about me when you can refute what I am posting? If you believe it to be negative conjecture then explain why it isnt.
My comments are my comments and all I was trying to portray was that the whole Braylon topic seems to have quite a few missing nuggets of information. I merely posted this to see if anyone had a thought as to what his ailment or problem is.
You are not an ESPN anlyst and probably didnt even play football so get off your FORUM HighHorse and read a post, comment on the post contents and move on.

Why post a comment about me when you can refute what I am posting?
Because what you are posting is so…hysterical? pessimistic? incorrect? unimportant? ridiculous? it doesn’t even need to be refuted. It is much easier to dismiss this post as some thing that “ever sunny AaronD posted” instead of trying to convince you about how incorrect you are—which I am guessing is going to be quite difficult.
I merely posted this to see if anyone had a thought as to what his ailment or problem is.
So then why is the whole post about how Braylon is going to leave Cleveland or how he almost left?
You are not an ESPN anlyst and probably didnt even play football
I know former football players who know a lot less about the game than I do. ESPN “anlysts” aren’t exactly infallible either. They don’t seem to think this is a story right now, and they are hurting for stories.
This is really a non-issue unless it at least continues into actual training camp. If he starts missing practices then we can worry. It doesn’t have anything to do with him staying or leaving either way.

I even consider it a postable issue (the failing a physical part). Why I have to read boatloads of gratuitous negativity surrounding a legitimate news story is the issue. And again, it was only a small joke, he wasn’t personally attacked.

I don’t even think he addressed the failing a physical part.
The question is whether Braylon is actually hurt or if this is all just a powerplay/sideshow/posturing/etc. I am willing to bet on the latter, and Mangini is just expressing displeasure that Braylon was playing basketball in the offseason, hurt himself, and missed some minicamp practices.
He wasn’t in a cast or anything during minicamp, how could he not be upwards of 80% right now?

With Mangini and Kokinis in town, I’m just under the working assumption that any and all “leaked” information to the media is speculation at best and specious at worst (especially if it’s the plain dealer).

Woah, claiming you know even less than ESPN analysts! That is harsh.

Hey sometimes Jaws does a good job. Even Stink talks about Oline technique and does a good job. It probably isn’t the analysts’ fault that they have to talk about Favre and Plaxico 90% of the time.

Yeah, I like Jaws. ESPN does have some good analysts, just too many idiots.

Braylon hurt his ankle playing basketball.
He’ll be fine from a physical standpoint. If a team really wanted to deal for him in April, they would have even if he had a minor sprain. Nobody wanted to give us enough and/or we didn’t want to let him go.
The only thing really up in the air here is if Mangini is holding him out of practice out of due caution or to punish Braylon. Mangini will stick to his guns and say it’s about caution, and the public may never truly know. Who cares?
Braylon has also been doing everything right with the media recently. He didn’t make a big stink over the trade rumors, and I believe he said he’s happy being a Brown and would like to stay. It really doesn’t matter, though: if we want to keep Braylon, we can do so. That ball is in the FO’s court, period.

Edwards showed up a day late and demanded that he not be penalized financially. This type of horseplay has been going on in pro football forever. The current status is a simple way to circumvent the rules re financial penalty without showing favoritism. The ploy is a symptom. The real question is why he didn’t bother to show up on time. If this is a blatant slight to his new coach, the FO will need to deal with it. If there is some other more personal reason, the whole thing will blow over.

I am guessing he didn’t show up because he thought it was unfair that he show up 4 days earlier than everyone else.
by rufio on Jul 29, 2009 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Braylon is just testing the new coach. Like most star wideouts, Braylon is a bit of a diva. He’s still the best player on our team when his head is in the game. I really expect a good year out of him and they can deal with his contract at the end of the season.

If you mean most talented as ‘best,’ perhaps you’re right, but he’s never been the most valuable on this team. Even if Braylon is playing well I would still keep Rogers or Thomas over him. You can’t really say ‘best’ about a player whose head being ‘in the game’ is open to speculation on actual gameday. ‘Best’ would entail most talented, as well as most valuable due to other factors as well INCLUDING leadership, mental preparation, and consistency.
by johnnyphoenix on Aug 3, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well, it’s exceptionally rare that a wide receiver is the most valuable player on any team.
braylon, it seems clear to me, is the most talented player on the browns. with thomas being a close second.
by DontCallMeJoey on Aug 4, 2009 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
All three are candidates. I argue that Thomas is clearly the “most valuable”.
Also, being valuable doesn’t have a lot to do with “leadership” in the NFL.
by rufio on Aug 4, 2009 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i definitely whiffed by omitting rogers.
thomas is, without question, the most valuable.

Still, you had a point (and the original point seems to be valid too): Braylon is really really talented and can break games wide open.
