Robiskie

So far WR Brian Robiskie has been looking good as opposed to fellow rookie WR Mohamed Massaquoi. Also, I am really liking what I am seeing from RB James Davis! That kid looks like he really has something to prove and is doing it very well. This is going to be important if our passing game suffers as much as it did last year. Lewis is looking good but who knows how long he can keep it up. I hope the Brownies can pull something out and make the season at least respectable this year.

Have you actually been to camp yourself?

by rufio on Aug 4, 2009 4:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d love to see him come into his own as a solid #2, I’m thinking like Boldin or Welker.

On a related note, OSU has become a WR factory: Cris Carter, Joey Galloway, Michael Jenkins, Santonio Holmes, Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzo’, now Robiskie. I can see Ray Small and Taurian Washington being worthy pros as well.
Can anyone think of any other school that truly compares to us with pro WRs?

2009 Prediction: Att - Yds - TD
Jerome Harrison 95 - 532 - 8

You’re forgetting David Boston and Terry Glenn, two fantastic receivers at OSU who had good but underwhelming careers in the NFL.

And I don’t think ant other school can match that list over the past 25 years.

Tedd Ginn is nothing to brag about yet

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 4, 2009 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yet… but that happens to some receivers in their early years. Look at Roddy White’s, Reggie Wayne’s, Greg Jenning’s, Hines Ward’s, even T.O.’s first few years. (And the list goes on…)

He had a respectable season last year. Not worthy of where he was picked, but he was picked way too high and he didn’t have a lot of control over that.

by rufio on Aug 4, 2009 11:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

we know who they should have taken with that pick

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 5, 2009 9:40 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

With Adrian Peterson, Joe Thomas, and Adrian Peterson off the board, I think it was a good pick considering. But only time will tell, as is with most receivers…

That game was great — 617 yards of total offense, including 408 yards and 3 TD’s by Troy Smith alone.

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 6, 2009 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But remember, it was Brady Quinn’s fault ND never won a high-profile bowl game. Forget the defense or his teammates, 110% BQ’s fault.

by rufio on Aug 6, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think quinn was directly responsible for the ginn score in this picture, AND all 408 of troy’s yards. don’t forget that.

by DontCallMeJoey on Aug 6, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If he was a better leader then the defense might have been able to tackle Ginn. He must have learned his leadership abilities from A-Rod.

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 6, 2009 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know, I was a bit hesitant about your guys thought process here after the firm reprimanding I received from the same folks in the Marshall trade discussion. (Although, I don’t recall leadership ever being apart of the conversation.)

But then I saw this:

Now, I think you guys might be right. I’d bet he’s responsible for that utterly pathetic loss to Navy in 2007 too!
Either that, or some people might have to come to the realization that Notre Dame just really really sucks. Really sucks. Even during the Brady era. No that can’t be it.

agreeful

So agreeing with you. ND has just SUCKED in recent years. If you ever saw clips from brady quinn, he was usually rolling out. ppl used that to talk about his athleticism, but the real story was there inept offensive line. They only had one player who has made any sort of NFL impact from that team his sr year and that was ryan grant (and he was only a backup). There was just no talent. A horrible defense, no quality recievers (how come he threw for so many yards and had no recievers of nfl caliber). He carried that team to bowl games, but one person can carry a team only so far. Think about if he had decent time to make decisions and had recievers who were NFL caliber like he was (at least capable of being drafted)? He wouldve, in my opinion, put up college stats similar to Peyton Manning. I am not exaggerating, his stats are fairly close anyways (they were better than carson palmer’s). and he went up against good teams too.

Jeff Smardjiza was a great receiver but he chose the MLB over NFL.

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 10, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he was good, but he didn’t think he would have a good enough career in the NFL. He was not projected in the first 4 rounds of the draft in any sort of projection. The offensive line though was horrible. Still, quinn turned a sow’s ear of a team into something that resembled a silk purse. He almost did it, but could never win the big one, mostly because he was either working from behind and having to force some throws, or starting deep in his own territory which happened often too.

by bross09 on Aug 10, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

YeA that is why it annoys me when people say Quinn couldn’t win a big game

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 10, 2009 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Smardjiza was good. He would have done well in the NFL. I think people were projecting him to be a late 1st rounder. I don’t think he would have been that good, but some of the WRs in the NFL are terrible.

Wasn’t there also a TE that was good for ND, BQisBeast?

Ndukwe (sp?) and Zibikowski were also not completely incompetent players. It’s just that even 5 NFL quality guys and not much else isn’t going to get it done against the OSUs, USCs, and LSUs of college football.

Also, a QB rolling out isn’t necessarily a signal that his OL sucks or that he is feeling pressure. Denver used a ton of roll outs that were programmed in their offense for at least Plummer and Cutler and maybe all the way back to Elway.

The point remains, however: the ND Olines still weren’t very good, and Quinn didn’t often have all day to throw.

There was Fasano and Carlson, who both start in the NFL.

We also had Trevor Laws and Victor Abiamari.

I’ll try to find some good smardjiza highlights and give a link if you all are interested

Here. Make sure you hit the HQ button

" Of course Steroids should be allowed! I wanna see 700 foot home runs and 90 yard field goals! I litterally want to see someone's d**k get shoved in the dirt!"

I am not sure if Small or Washington will be good NFL players. They have the tools, but I have been waiting for both of them to break out at OSU for a couple of years and they haven’t yet. I love Lamar Thomas and Posey, too.

I am excited about Duron Carter, Corey Brown, James Jackson, and recent commit James Louis

by rufio on Aug 4, 2009 11:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Im excited about Golden Tate and Michael Floyd, who are already proven beasts

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 5, 2009 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Isn’t Tate a RB?

by rufio on Aug 5, 2009 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

in high school he was but he has been a WR his two years at ND. Wow, I’m surprised to see rufio wrong.

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 5, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I asked, didn’t state.

Looks like he had a good season last year. Was Floyd healthy for the bowl game? His 2 catches for 17 yards against those DBs doesn’t really impress me.

by rufio on Aug 5, 2009 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was healthy enough to play but he wasnt 100%. Anyway, Tate kinda hogged the passes but thats not a bad game

Ray Small is a huge waste of talent

by Bernie19Kosar on Aug 6, 2009 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also, Robiskie’s style of play is not very similar to Welker. It is closer to Boldin’s but I don’t think that is an especially illuminating comparison either.

If you meant in terms of production (catches, yards, etc.) then I’d love to see that as well and retract the above paragraph.

by rufio on Aug 5, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you meant in terms of production (catches, yards, etc.)

Yup. I also mentioned them two specifically because they are the best #2 receivers in the league, as I expect Robiskie will be. (That’s assuming Edwards bounces back. I suppose it is possible that Edwards doesn’t and Robiskie emerges as a breakout #1, but that’s a stretch, not that I wouldn’t mind it.)

Got it. Those are pretty solid #2s.

by rufio on Aug 5, 2009 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We also put out some decent LBs (Aj Hawk and mike Vrabel come to mind), it’s just too bad our most recent quarterbacks never panned out. (Troy Smith and Craig Krenzel)

by North Coast Flea on Aug 5, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Krenzel was never going to cut it in the NFL. Troy Smith still could.

by rufio on Aug 5, 2009 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, but its not like there are any schools that produce a ton of QBs these days.

I will take OSU’s LB and WR pros over just about any other school’s.

by Ryan Kelsey on Aug 5, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Eh, OSU’s linebacker haven’t been all that great recently. Carpenter has been a bust so far and Hawk is good but nothing special with Green Bay, probably not worth the 5th pick. Katzenmoyer didn’t do much. Guys like Matt Wilhelm and Na’il Digss have had nice careers, and of course there’s Vrabel, but I’ll be there are schools with better LB in the NFL right now. We’ll have to see how Laurinitis and Freeman do in the coming years.

OSU probably has the edge in DB’s, though. Antoine Winfield, Shawn Springs, Chris Gamble, Will Allen, Nate Clements, Nate Salley, Ashton Youboty. And of course there’s Malcolm Jenkins and Donald Washington coming in this year.

Don’t forget Whitner who has been good but not lived up to his wildly overdrafted status.

Yeah, I knew I was forgetting someone.

What about Gholston?

by SpecialBrownie on Aug 11, 2009 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He should still be playing DE. But yeah, he isn’t living up to his wildly overdrafted status either.

I actually when to middle school with Ted Ginn. For highschool the bastard left Collinwood and went to Glennville, but I stopped hating him when I found out his father coached there…and our football team sucked.

I actually stole his Game Gear by mistake…

I’m just wondering what makes this guy think that Robiskie has played better than MoMass so far. We’ve had, what, three days of practice so far?

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 4, 2009 6:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Robo also dropped 3/5 balls during one stretch.

It’s early. I want to see these guys against other teams.

by rufio on Aug 4, 2009 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

norwood is better than both of them and should make the team…

kidding Brad, had to get in a PSU vs. OSU dig.

by Dawg Nuts on Aug 7, 2009 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Heres something I just though about.
We have 7 receivers that are 26 or younger;
Braylon Edwards
Brian Robiskie
Mohammed Massoquoi
Josh Cribbs
Paul Hubbard
Lance Leggett
Jordan Norwood

I dont see us keeping all of these guys because we dont need this many receviers. Unless we have to trade Cribbs, the guy that gets cut will more than likely be Hub, LL, or Norwood. I doubt it will be Norwood because he would be a good slot receiver, and we dont have many of those. So it comes down to Hub and Leggett…
