Dawgs By Nature Fantasy Football League 2009
It's time for the second annual Dawgs By Nature fantasy football league! There will be 12 teams again this year, with the league being held on the FleaFlicker platform. I want everyone who is interested in participating to respond in this thread. I will give favoritism to some of the community members with more tenure, but I will make sure that a few spots are reserved for newer members by random draw.
Again, if you have an interest, please respond here as soon as possible! If I get an overwhelming response, I will consider creating a second league.

I would LOVE to take part in this league. I sincerely promise that even if I am 0-11 heading into the waning weeks, I will change my lineup and not abandon ship (which bugs the hell out of me when guys do that)

I would love to join the league. I am the Commish in my league which has been going 6 years strong. I play it through till the end. I’ve been looking for a second league to be in and just recently found your blog. Great blog by the way! Training camp udates are awesome. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Thanks
I’ll bring this up since some of the people above alluded to it — I please ask that you only volunteer to participate if you feel you will make a commitment to “staying with it”. That means that I don’t want to see teams with 5 players on the Injured Reserve listed in your starting lineup halfway through the season, lol.
I’m not saying I’ll be livid if something truly does come up and you don’t have time to set your lineup anymore, as emergencies do happen. But if you’ve abandoned leagues in the past just because you got bored, try elsewhere please ;)

I plan on winning this year, unlike last year when my 1st round pick got hurt right away. Tom Brady!!!! Worst possible draft I could of had!

I’m definitely in again, I want to get revenge on rufio for beating me in last year’s championship game!
Just one question — do we have to use the FleaFlicker platform again? I found it somewhat difficult to use last year. How about something more populare like Yahoo or ESPN (which most people probably use already anyways)? Just a thought.
(This also answers TheDawgStaph’s inquiry below).
SB Nation has a semi-partnership with FleaFlicker, so this is the route we have to go. All 32 NFL blogs will be doing the same.

You had a miracle comeback to beat me in the playoffs to even get there. If Peyton Hillis didn’t go down with injury, I would have won easily
Not sure what you’re talking about. Here is the score of our playoff game and I won by 16 points, so I doubt Peyton Hillis would have made up the difference by himself. He got 12 points in the game anyways. You should blame Darren McFadden, he got you nothing.
I am going off memory here, but I had about a 25 pt lead with only one half of football to play. Hillis got hurt, and a number of miracles happened for your team to end up winning by a healthy 16, but it looked like I had it wrapped up with little time remaining. You ackowledged as much in a post on this site, but I am too lazy to look it up
I would love to be in the league this year. Been a fan of this site for a long time. I also agree with using Yahoo, esp this year since they now have free live scoring, which is a nice bonus. I always stick with my teams even when losing, just like my allegiance to the browns, these colors don’t run.
fantasy
long time reader, but brand new “member”… I’d love to play your ff league
I want a Shot!!!
Hey I want a try at the fantacy league!
You kind of pissed me off by winning, so I’ll have to see.

I plan to improve my 3-9-1 record to above .500 and a playoff contender!

Ha, not really, just joshing. But it is frustrating; the past two years, I’ve only done one fantasy league per year. Two years ago, I played with 11 other SB Nation football writers and had the best regular season record, only to get ousted in my first round of the playoffs (after my first-round bye). The same thing happened in the DBN league last year…I had the best record, then lost! arg!

Two years ago, I had Tom Brady, who was a monster every single week…except for my one playoff week, where he had his only non-touchdown game of the season I believe. Last year, I forget exactly what happened against you, I just know it seemed like deja vu.

So I haven’t been here long. But yeah, I’ll be in throughout. And if you want some Australian representation, I’ll be here.
Australia, really? Have you lived their your whole life or did you move there from the US? And if you grew up there how did you become a Browns fan?
More or less a lifer. I’ve got no affiliation with the US whatsoever haha.
I remember reading some interview a few years back ago of some author. He said that “he didn’t mind watchin’ the Browns since he was from Ohio”. So basically, the Browns were the first team I had ever heard of. When TV stations here started to wake up and talk about football I decided to pick a team.
And the Browns it was.
Hey skipkirk. It’s good to hear that American Football is getting “down under”. I’ve got some faimly friends from New Zealand that moved to the area about a year ago. (I know their different countries, but close) It’s fun to explain about our fooball and have him compare it with Aussie Rules and Rugby.
Did you know about the under nineteen world football classic? New Zealand ended up making the trip to Canton this summer to play in the playoffs. My friend drove his kids over to watch them play. They lost to Canada, I think, but they were stoked just to get to see the Kiwis play.
Fooootball has been beary beary good to me.
I kinda think that people followed football but didn’t really tell anyone else. ‘Slike no one wanted to admit it. Cause we have three other kinds of football here (and another if you add soccer), and there’s always talk about toughness and all. Still, I love the game. I won’t debate toughness and violence and hard hits. Every game has different rules, so what’s to fight?
But anyway, more and more people admit they watch it. More and more play Madden haha. Showing the games on free TV is a testament to that. We’ve got a long way to go before having an actual proper league though.
That is still awesome. I would love it if we could get Rugby, Soccer, and other sports on TV more in the states. What’s the third type of football? Australian football? What’s that like?
We’ve got Aussie Rules, Rugby Union and Rugby League. Aussie Rules is like soccer in terms of scoring through goal posts, but one can use hands as well. The ball is in the air alotta the time. Some people call it Air Ping Pong.
Rugby Union and Rugby League differ slightly by rules. More players on the field in Union and it has less contact (no shoulder charges!), but they charge in for scrums. In terms of actual scoring, not much difference. Also, Union is from my pov much more slower. From the players point of view, perhaps, is that Union has no salary cap and more international prestige (you’ve probably heard of the Union World Cup rather than the League World Cup). All the money is in Union. League is a dying sport now, and since crossovers are allowed between the three codes, you’ll find League players moving to play Union and ARules.
My personal favourite is League. Quick and brutal.
Just wanted to quickly reiterate my keen interest in being invited to join the DBN fantasy league and mention that as I work for a golf magazine here in NYC, I would be willing to, ahem, maybe, um, offer free subscriptions to any Conde Nast mag to help make a case for myself. Just sayin’ . . .
