Troy Smith

ravens team report

Star-divide

I just read on the ravens' yahoo team report that Troy Smith wants to be traded.  He is a restricted free agent with a young QB that has done a solid job in his first 2 years.  We know that Troy Smith's height has some limitations that have prohibited him from being a starter.  What do you think he is worth?  What do you think we would have to give up in picks or players?  My heart says yes but my head says no.  I just would like to know what his tender value would be.

This is a fan-created post. Dawgs By Nature assumes no responsibility for the content listed.

I’d like to believe in Troy Smith, but the last two ohio natives to play qb here didn’t pan out to well.

Maybe I’m just blanking… but who played QB from Ohio for the Browns between Kosar and Quinn?

Yup, just blanked on that one. Went straight from Couch/Holcomb to Dilfer to DA in my head.

My mind has blocked them all out, and we have merely been running a mooncamping offense.

If we get a real QB in here, I will blank out everything after 1999.

Doesn’t matter where he came from. All that matters is how he can/could/would/won’t do at QB, which has nothing to do with his hometown.

Since Troy no longer wants to wear purple, the pressure is on Baltimore to accommodate him. I can see giving up a fifth round pick for him and one of our lame defensive backs. But, I would insist on a sincere thank you note from Ozzie.

by elsandito on Feb 17, 2010 10:58 PM EST reply actions

We could hope that hiscurrent team see’s fit to rid themselves of a player that doesn’t want to be there. That would be cheaper for us. If they just straight out released him, would we have to give up a draft pick?

The All-America Football Conference was created in June of 1944 to compete against the NFL. Even though the league outdrew the NFL in attendance, the continuing dominance of the Cleveland Browns led to the league's downfall.

I would trade Brady for him, but that is not based on talent, I just like Troy better then Brady.

Have you seen his account name?

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

by TheRealSlimShady on Mar 5, 2010 6:12 PM EST up reply actions

yep. that means he must think illogical and because of his account name, he must not have an objective opinion at all about smith.

by bross09 on Mar 6, 2010 12:01 AM EST up reply actions

He said it isn’t because of talent, so what else would
It be?

If I said we should get Golden Tate instead of Dez Bryant , not because of talent but because I like I’m better, what do you think people would say

I’d say that it grammatically makes no sense.

What is your problem?

Nothing. That’s just what I’d say.

by SpecialBrownie on Mar 6, 2010 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

I would say I personally like tate better anyways. I like what he brings to the table more too compared to Dez.

I didn’t catch the no talent part of what he said.

on the subject of these 2 guys, I think tate could end up being a better player and I like his attitude better. Bryant is going to drop b/c of how he interviewed at the combine, plus the way he showed up and the fact that he left early.

by bross09 on Mar 6, 2010 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t disagree with what you said.

I think Troy could be the low investment (money and or draft picks) solution in an offseason where we have plenty of needs to fill. I just hope that Oakland isn’t willing to overpay for him. The Ravens previous QB coach is now in Oakland.
Smith has managed to stay with the same team for 3 years as a backup so he must have some NFL potential. He has put up decent numbers in limited playing time. Conventional wisdom concludes a QB needs 3 or 4 years to learn the NFL game. If we were willing to use a 3rd round pick on Frye, why give up a 4th and 5th for Smith.

Maybe we sign him to an offer sheet in the realm of 3yrs/ 4 million and see what happens.

As much as I love the Browns and like the Buckeyes, I really wish fans would get over the whole “We gotta take this guy cause he’s a Buckeye…” mentality.

If you guys had your way We’d have Clarett in the backfield and a QB controversy between Zwick and Krenzel.

And on that note let me be the first to say NO to Pryor in Cleveland.

by Buckeye Brad on Mar 4, 2010 7:15 PM EST up reply actions

Baltimore places a 5th round tender on him.

Which leads me to believe… there was little to no interest in him in the trade market.

by rolub on Mar 4, 2010 9:26 PM EST reply actions

for comparison sake, other backup QBs who were tendered:

Matt Moore (1st and 3rd) – maybe he’s not the backup anymore
Tavaris Jackson (3rd) – we all know who’s starting for the Vikes next year
Bruce Gradkowski (2nd) – he’s a backup, whether he’s the Raiders starter or not

by rolub on Mar 4, 2010 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

oh…I mean why is troy smith 2 rounds worse than tavaris? this is a steal even if you aren’t a homer.

by bross09 on Mar 4, 2010 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

what I meant is that a team not that familiar with him would consider that not a bad deal.

by bross09 on Mar 4, 2010 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

Because Tarvaris has had a few good games as a starter.

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

So has Smith.

1 okay start in his career. Tarvaris is much better at this point.

by TheRealSlimShady on Mar 5, 2010 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

extremely questionable. that is completely subjective. Although tavaris has more starting experience in the league than smith, so does Joey Harrington, David Carr, derek Anderson etc…there is a difference between experience and good experience.

by bross09 on Mar 6, 2010 12:03 AM EST up reply actions

Bad comparisons. I’m saying that tarvaris has more good games

DA had a season full of good games. You are making a bad comparison.

Then what are we supposed to judge people on then?

by TheRealSlimShady on Mar 6, 2010 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

I like to think that the team carried Tavaris, and he had a few good starts. That doesn’t mean you can fully evaluate the man on those.

"Spartans never die Jorge. They're just missing in action."

by SpecialBrownie on Mar 6, 2010 12:59 PM EST up reply actions

my theory exactly. does he have that much more experience compared to smith that I would give up that much more for him? No. I would not take tavaris with a 3rd round tender. I might take him over smith as a fifth round tender…but my point is that smith by the tendering is undervalued whereas IMO, jackson is overvalued.

by bross09 on Mar 6, 2010 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

troy smith

I agree that cleveland would be wise to try to acquire troy smith. the man wanted to be drafted by cleveland in tyhe first place and ended up with the old browns instead, and i think he has a lot of upside left in him , and very low mileage. could be the steal that cleveland has been looking for the past years

by Chugga on Mar 5, 2010 9:23 PM EST reply actions

frankly I love the idea of picking up troy smith for a mere 5th rounder. Brady Quinn is the only other option I see and i don’t mind either one. Troy smith is the best option if we can find a trade suitor for Brady Quinn that blows us away.
