right under the story on the above link is a report that bradford scored pretty high on the wonderlic test. i wonder how much stock holmgren puts into those things?
good question? I honestly think Holmgren is going after Dan Lefevour in draft and Seneca to start for this team now. I thought he got Seneca to “train” BQ on the WC offense, and would cut Ratliff as 3rd string for Lefevour. I have no idea what to think now?
Probably as much as any other combine-ish test. It might validate what you see on film, but you are looking for generally good scores and you don’t need to analyze minute differences between scores. If he scored a 3, you might worry. But Eli outscored Peyton on the Wonderlic. Both did well, but you don’t look at 5 points and think the guy has a better ‘football mind’.
Some people also look at these things not as the tests themselves (i.e. how fast you can run a 40) but to get an idea about the professionalism and work ethic someone brings to the table. If they are competitive and have the work ethic to make it, they are probably at least going to get training on the Wonderlic, the 40, etc. If you come in and have terrible form in your tests and you aren’t prepared for the combine, what does that say about your willingness to prepare for Sundays?

Exactly right. Performance on the Wonderlic reveals effort and preparation. It’s not an overly difficult test, and practice will certainly make it manageable for most.

Yeah, and it showed how great Alex Smith is.

I don’t know about Holmgrem exactly, but I have heard that scouts and GM’s think highly of the test.
It might be just me, but I’m starting to get the feeling that the Browns are looking to trade up for Bradford. I’m thinking Quinn and the #7 pick for the top overall pick.

Correct.
From what it sounds like the Browns are shopping everyone, so this shouldn’t be a surprise.

The only person we didn’t shop was Brodney Pool.

who knows what is going to happen, whether we get McNabb, Vick, Delhomme, trade Quinn, start Seneca.. none of this would surprise me. What would shock the hell out of me and would make no sense on the Rams part is to pass on Sam Bradford. here is their chance to finally get a franchise QB. they absolutely have to take him at #1.
I’m not sure how many people read the Canton Repository here (Anything better than most of the writers at the PD right?), but this is what Doerschuk wrote:
A RELIABLE SOURCE, common sense, and signals from our recent conversation with Mike Holmgren, tell us:
Jake Delhomme is being considered as a mentor and backup.
Holmgren’s previous two teams, Green Bay and Seattle, began their ascents the day they committed to growing with young, unproven quarterbacks. That’s what Holmgren will do in Cleveland the moment he thinks he has the young quarterback, and we believe Brady Quinn is still in the equation.
I hope that this analysis is spot on. If we’re going to have Delhomme, I want nothing to do with him as a starter. But he’s started almost 100 games throughout his career, so as a mentor, I can see him being very valuable. As for Quinn, aside from trading for a different QB, do we really have alternatives that are better?

Wallace = offense teacher
Delhomme = veteran mentor
? = the Future
This would stay in line with Holmgren’s statement that he doesn’t want a QB competition.
They gone have to stop sleeping on me one day.. I gotta be one of the best

That’s about what I was thinking too, but will Delhomme agree to be 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart? It’s not like Wallace has a choice, but Jake is a free agent and I’m not so sure that he’s ready to give up on being the starter or at least having the chance to be one.

Will the real QB for the Browns please stand up, please stand up, please stand up. I have no idea who is QB’ing next year now?
If only rec’s can go in the negative.
