Cleveland Browns 12 draft picks, 2010

Alright, I´ll probably catch some flack for this again.  But, I deem it pertinent to reiterate what draft picks we have on April 21st.  It´s 12 meanwhile.  Maybe someone wants to do the work and put the exact numeral to the draft slots.

To my knowledge, these are the picks we have at this point:

1st round
2nd round
3rd round (Braylon Edwards to the Jets)
3rd round (Kamerion Wimbley to the Raiders)
3rd round
4th round
5th round (Braylon Edwards to the Jets)
5th round (Corey Williams to the Lions)
5th round (Kellen Winslow to the Bucs)
5th round
6th round (Louis Leonard to the Panthers)
6th round

You may want to do a corresponding mock.  If you can properly assess who may be available, especially towards the bottom, you deserve some props.

This is a fan-created post. Dawgs By Nature assumes no responsibility for the content listed.

We really got a 3rd and a fifth from Braylon on top of all those players? Man, they got hosed, but they’ll find that out this year.

For the love of Joe Thomas.....

Yes, for the greatest blocking wide receiver in the league.. (I didn’t mention the catching part cause the Jets still have not come to terms with the fact the man has bad hands!)

Speaking of blocking receivers, does anyone recall how well our current WRs performed that task in ’09?

Not bad, for some reason I thought we only got a third for Braylon…

A Cleveland Browns game was aired in France, the French surrendered to Joe Thomas just to be on the safe side...

Like vs. Dislike

From draft trades – my favorite to least favorite

1. Louis Leonard (something for nothing)
2. Braylon Edwards (hated to give up on physical talent – but feel hands are a long term problem)
3. Corey Williams – (overall a terrible deal – but Mangini/Heckert/Holmgren did best they could given contract status)
4. Kellen Winslow – (he was a head case – but his hands and competitiveness are missed)
5. Kamerion Wimbley – (this is ridiculous. Veikhune, Trenick is worth a 2nd and Kam a 3rd – absurd)

by realmccoy on Mar 24, 2010 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

5. Kamerion Wimbley – (this is ridiculous. Veikhune, Trenick is worth a 2nd and Kam a 3rd – absurd)

It’s not so much that Trusnik is worth a second as it is that Trusnik is worth more than a seventh.

by golanbatrac on Mar 24, 2010 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Right.

It was either a 2nd or a 7th. I would rather my team be on the safe side.

by Bernie19Kosar on Mar 24, 2010 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions

To add one additional point, Trusnick would not in any scenario return the same amount that Wimbley would in a trade, but we are comparing apples and oranges with the trade of Wimbley and the Trusnick tender. The idea is to retain a cheap player that Mangini likes, and to ensure that we keep the player, we needed to give him the 2nd round tender.

by Roger Dorn on Mar 24, 2010 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought Trusnik was undrafted. Thus, I don’t think you tender a 7th for him; rather the “tender” would simply be a right of first refusal where we’d get nothing if we lost him.

by TheDriveStillHurts on Mar 24, 2010 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Correct. Stucki was the Jet’s seventh rounder that year.

Ok, like I said before, once again mooncamping has not done his homework well enough. But I do have some names to throw out there:
7. 1st round
38. 2nd round…Pick 7 and 38 for 1 overall…Jimmy Clausen
71. 3rd round…G Shaun Luvao
85. 3rd round (from NE via Kamerion Wimbley to the Raiders)…G Lyle Hitt
92. 3rd round (from Braylon Edwards to the Jets)…Dekoda Watson to CB
105. 4th round…FS Darrell Stuckey
134. 5th round (from Kellen Winslow to the Bucs)…Justin Woodall to CB
137. 5th round…OLB Reed Williams
146. 5th round (from Denver via Corey Williams to the Lions)…OLB Reggie Carter
160. 5th round (from Braylon Edwards to the Jets)…big, big sleeper, because of surplus at the position in Georgia…DT Kade Weston
177. 6th round…OLB Andre Revels
186. 6th round (from Louis Leonard to the Panthers)…TE Michael Hoomanawanui
I´m flailing a little here, but my point is, get uncramped and start throwing some names out there.

by mooncamping on Mar 24, 2010 7:06 AM EDT reply actions

First of all if we trade up it won’t be for Clausen, and we certainly wouldn’t have to go up to 1 to get him. I actually think Clausen will be the best QB in this draft but we have to many holes to ruin another QB. I’d rather build up the rest of the team and bring a QB into a good situation.

Now when you say Watson and Woodall to CB are you suggesting they be converted to CB? If thats the case then I’m ashamed to have wasted the 10 minutes reading and replying to this garbage.

You Have Not Seen Sam Bradford Play Extensively

I’m a huge Texas Longhorn fan and hate everything about the Oklahoma Sooners. Heck, I would root for the Taliban to upset Oklahoma. But Bradford is so good, so accurate, so much pocket presence you cannot help but respect this guy’s talent. I really would be shocked if he wasn’t a franchise QB in the Manning/Brees/Brady mold. I know that is a lofty expectation, but he just seems that good.

by realmccoy on Mar 24, 2010 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I think I might hold off on the comparison to those guys. Couch seemed good.

by AG7 on Mar 24, 2010 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

lets not go there.

If couch got taken by the eagles do you think he would be out of the league by now?

by bross09 on Mar 24, 2010 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s the thing though, Bradford would also be coming to Cleveland, in this scenario. So yeah maybe he would have succeeded in Philly, but he came to Cleveland.

by AG7 on Mar 24, 2010 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Here's a deal

I will admit that predicting that a QB will be in the stratosphere of franchis QBs is a longshot, but comparing Bradford to Couch is ludricous. Couch ran a gadget passing offense of short passes – and there were serious doubts about his ability to make “all the throws” when he came out. No such concerns with Bradford. His performance dwarfs Stafford, Ryan, Sanchez et al.

by realmccoy on Mar 24, 2010 9:24 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I’m not saying he’s comparable to Couch, I’m saying I wouldn’t compare him to those guys because until he plays in the NFL, you have no idea what you are actually going to get.

by AG7 on Mar 24, 2010 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

that is true…we don’t know yet with bradford.

But the fact that a Texas fan would think of doing so tells you something.

by rufio on Mar 25, 2010 4:39 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah…but this team is much better than that cleveland team of 1999. no matter our problems at receiver, that was a much worse offense. there was only one player on that offense (besides maybe couch) that I would take and put on this team…kevin johnson…no one else. terrible running backs, dreadful O-Line…

Comparing couch coming here to Bradford is comparing apples to oranges. that was a Terrible O-Line whereas the C-LT of our line is Top Notch.

I teach good life choices. That’s why I almost didn’t graduate High School.

by bross09 on Mar 24, 2010 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

We now have the best blind side pass protector in the league, a future pro bowler at C, and a very good LG.

Couch didn’t have Thomas’ talent in all five of his pass protectors.

Define "good"

If you say he is good for a 7th rounder I might agree – but he is not an above average NFL receiver. He did not even stick out on the Browns – and I felt we had the weakest WRs in the league.

by realmccoy on Mar 24, 2010 9:28 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I think you are confusing Chansi Stuckey and Darrell Stuckey.

I was commenting on Moon’s mock. He has us taking Darrell Stuckey, a Safety from Kansas, with our pick in the 4th. This is a good pick IMO and it would be a great pick if he is actually available there.

Glad we found one we agree on. Of course I think replacing Abe Elam at Strong Safety would be a blunder of universal proportions. And the jury is still out on Eric Wright having the grit to man the Free Safety slot.
But, since I always try to get an impression of what´s available, here are the other Classic Free Safeties (Caution! Some of them may be positional transfers) I deem good:
Jamar Wall, Texas Tech
Jordan Pugh, Texas A&M
Darrell Stuckey, Kansas
Harry Coleman, LSU
Darrian Stewart, South Carolina
Guess what, I see only two Classic Strong Safeties:
Andre Sexton, Oklahoma State (mold of: Godfrey and Landry)
Cody Grimm, Virginia Tech
Here´s some cornerbacks:
From last year:
Mesphin Forrester, University of Washington
Otis Wiley, Michigan State
Curtis Taylor, LSU
From this year:
Terrell Skinner, Maryland
Dekoda Watson, Florida State
Justin Woodall, Alabama
Major Wright, Florida
Aaron Webster, Cincinnati
Of course it´s the Loony List, but I do alright.

by mooncamping on Mar 26, 2010 10:21 AM EDT up reply actions

I can assure you that there is no need to trade away picks for Jimmy Clausen. He is not in danger of being selected in the top five.

by gahnki on Mar 24, 2010 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Dekoda Watson cannot play cornerback. He is a linebacker at this level. And, if you haven’t been paying attention, this entire site is littered with people throwing out names.

by gahnki on Mar 24, 2010 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I cannot take credit for this

But I saw someone post that we should draft Jevan Snead in 4th or 5th round and that is a brilliant idea. He grew up down the road from Matt Stafford and they had epic battles in Texas High School Football. His arm strength is incredibly close to Stafford and is a true “cannon”. He is faster and more athletic than Stafford. He was projected to be the overall number 1 pick in last year “previews” (from by obvious mag rags). The only reason not in the top 5 QBs is that he absolutely wet himself last year with terrible decision making and tons of interceptions (think Jake Delhomme). If you think we could coach him up (first time for everything) it would be a first round talent in the 4th round.

by realmccoy on Mar 24, 2010 6:34 PM EDT reply actions

yeah. If you take him late he is worth a gamble. if holmgren thinks that they can fix his decison making and accuracy problems, go ahead. If we can, we truly could have grabbed a possible franchise guy in the 4th. However, the 4th is as high as I will go. The way I see it, this is a very deep draft. we can get guys in the third that have a significant impact this year. this is a rebuilding team. I would not want to see them taking a lot of project players like a snead or tebow…especially not too soon. Tebow however I would definitely take before snead, though probably not as high as he will eventually go.

I teach good life choices. That’s why I almost didn’t graduate High School.

by bross09 on Mar 24, 2010 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe their arm strengths were comparable in high school, but they certainly are not now.

by gahnki on Mar 24, 2010 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

he has a gun

Snead, Tebow, and Bradford – 3 QBs in the draft with no worries on arm strength. Tebow – he shotputs the ball – and he will be picked higher than the project that he is. Would be surprised if he is later than early 2. Bradford will be number 1 overall – book it. Snead has a chance to be there.

by realmccoy on Mar 24, 2010 9:18 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

There are a lot of worries with Tebow on arm strength.

by gahnki on Mar 24, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I always thought he had a solid arm but the touch on his balls was questionable. Tebow doesn’t have a cannon but from what I have seen and read, he can make all the throws needed.

I teach good life choices. That’s why I almost didn’t graduate High School.

by bross09 on Mar 24, 2010 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Bross is right from what I’ve heard. Tebow has ‘good’ arm strength and throws a very accurate deep ball, perhaps the most accurate in the draft. The knock on him has been a lack of touch on some throws. His other problem was the bad footwork and throwing mechanics that has led to some questionable accuracy on short to intermediate throws.

by bross09 on Mar 25, 2010 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

As rufio said, his wind-up delivery allows him to get the ball deep enough but that delivery is being eliminated. Does he have enough natural arm strength to compensate for the change?

by gahnki on Mar 25, 2010 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I question his arm strength after his form change. Now he really doesn’t pass the ball, he moreso pushes it.
